As someone living with alopecia, finding a barber who offers this specialized service is not easy,…read morewhich is why I trusted IamBillco at IamBillco Hair Replacement Center, and why the standard of care matters so much. This was not my first visit. This was my third time returning, which means there was an established relationship and a reasonable expectation of trust and professionalism. I initially reached out on January 14 to schedule an appointment. During that process, I requested a 2:30 PM appointment and was told it was "perfect." However, when I went to book through the link that was sent to me, the scheduled time reflected 3:30 PM. This change was never communicated directly and was only visible through the booking link. I proceeded with the appointment regardless. When I arrived, the barber was not ready and was still working on another client. There was no acknowledgment of the delay or consideration of my time. Approximately two days after the service, my scalp began leaking from the back, soaking through my durag and continuing overnight. I documented this and reached out immediately with photos explaining what was happening. Over the next several days, the condition worsened. My scalp became irritated, painful, and showed signs consistent with a chemical reaction or burn. I communicated these concerns and requested assistance, including help with safely removing the unit. I was advised to either wait for later availability or remove the unit myself. I expressed that I was not comfortable doing that, especially after paying over $600 for the service. A reinstall was mentioned "if needed," but there was no clear accountability given the severity of the situation. Due to the condition of my scalp, I ultimately had to seek medical attention at urgent care and pay out-of-pocket for treatment. I also experienced swelling in my lymph nodes on both sides of my head, indicating my body was responding to what was happening. After allowing my scalp time to heal, I scheduled a follow-up appointment to address the issue. Upon arrival, the barber was again not ready at the scheduled time. During that visit, it was discussed that my scalp may have been irritated during the removal process of the previous unit. The removal required significant effort to break down the adhesive, which caused noticeable discomfort. Despite that, the service proceeded. During that same appointment, while I was still in the chair, the barber was on the phone and a conversation came up regarding how I should be addressed. I made it clear that I prefer to be referred to strictly as EJ -- a preference I had communicated since the beginning of our working relationship. Rather than simply respecting that, the conversation continued in a way I found unnecessary and unprofessional. Following the visit, I was told the service would be $145. Given everything that had occurred, I expressed that I was not comfortable with that charge. I was told I would not be given a discount. After further discussion, I was ultimately charged $100, and the interaction ended with, "I'll see you when I see you." Approximately two hours later, I received a message stating that I would no longer be serviced, along with the comment that the barber prefers "clients that appreciate my craft." At no point was there a genuine effort to take responsibility for the initial harm, acknowledge the delays, respect how I asked to be addressed, or address the medical costs I incurred as a direct result of this experience. My experience raises serious concerns regarding communication, professionalism, punctuality, respect for clients, and how health-related issues are handled.
