This was my first time doing a project of this size for myself. I wanted a 30'x50' metal RV garage built on a concrete slab with an 80' asphalt driveway on my 5 acre property. I contracted for surveying, engineering, geotechnical support, and worked with the county for all permitting. After selecting my metal building contractor, I called Leo's company for an estimate after seeing the many positive reviews he had on Google and Yelp. In the excavating, concrete, and asphalt areas, I had a difficult time finding single contractors that did all three areas. Besides Leo's estimate, I was able to obtain one other. Other contractors would say they worked in all three areas but upon visiting my site, they would say they just did one area but had contacts that could provide estimates in the other areas. Leo's site visit and subsequent interactions put me completely at ease. He had done his homework, deep diving the plans I had sent him. His estimate was in the ballpark of the other and he provided pictures of his other jobs that proved that he had more than enough expertise to complete my project. Over the course of my project, I came to rely upon Leo to help me overcome obstacle after obstacle due to my inexperience working across the trades and with the county. In one example, we had a conference call to talk to the engineer to determine how best to build up the ground to make it level for the slab with a mostly level driveway that would drain properly, and T'd from the original driveway. In another example, I did not find the building permit on the county's electronic system until after the concrete slab had been poured. The first geotechnical report had made "suggestions" that the county made "mandatory" in the building permit, one of which was having a geotechnical expert write an assessment after the forms were constructed and before concrete was poured. I was able to have the geotechnical engineer visit the site and inspect after the fact. Leo made himself available to answer questions and he had pictures of the rebar and forms. A positive report was developed that satisfied the county. Leo told me that he likes jobs that are my size and up to 12 homes at a time so he can be responsive to his commitments. For me, he was on site when he said he would be. The size of his crew was always right for the job at hand and no one was ever not fully engaged. After much debate, I needed to have the foundation that had been poured removed and fill in the hole. I was really struggling to find anyone to even bid the project, let alone take the job. Rob, the owner, showed up, bid the job to my new GC, was forthcoming about when he could start and what the costs would be. He was no nonsense, good for his word. Showed up with his crew and equipment the day he said he was going to, and every day till the job was done. He came across many issues with what the previous contractor had done, but he also came to me with solutions and the means to fix them. You have to love a guy who brings you answers to the problems you didn't even know you had! It was one of those, "this couldn't have gone any smoother" transactions. His crew was very careful with their equipment and made sure not to damage any of the surrounding areas, i.e. sidewalks, trees, fences, the neighbors cars. I'm pretty sure that man could tie a shoelace with that excavator thing he was using. Rob did everything he said he was going to do and even more. He went above and beyond. It's very rare, and hard to find honorable, no nonsense guys like that these days. This is an amazing team. A well run business, and just an all around great company to work with. I couldn't be happier. It's hard to see in the pictures, but the "after" photos show where Rob actually had some rich soil brought in and planted grass seed in it for me!! Three years prior my basement flooded. The best guess at the time was my drains were tied into the…read moresewer and a clog in the line caused them to backup. A sewer scope found the blockage in the sewer but was unable to find the spot where the rain drains tied in so the actual root cause was never determined. The whole line was bad but I replaced only the section that plugged up to save money until I could afford to fix it properly. Since then the basement stayed dry despite multiple heavy rains. Once I saved enough I had Black Rock Underground replaced my sewer pipe in May 2022. They were hired by the city to work on the main sewer line for the block, I didn't know much about them but because my sewer line tied into the one they were already working on they only charged be $2,800 to replace my whole line!!! A few weeks after replacing the sewer pipe it flooded again (we had record braking rain fall). I figured it was because they had to disconnected my rain drains in order to meet the city's current codes. I knew the codes and didn't blame them for it, it had to happen. After researching the different options to reliably waterproof the basement I finally called them a few weeks ago in hopes they remembered something about the work that might help me decide the best fix. They immediately offered to come investigate. Britt came out, scoped all my drains, put water down them, located them and marked their depth. I had paid two different companies for the same service Britt did back when it first flooded, both were unhelpful so I didn't expect much. I'm not sure if the other guys didn't know what they were doing or just didn't care but I was blown away by Britt's feedback, he genuinely cared and went above and beyond my expectations trying to figure out the root cause.
