Best Chinese in town. Great to see some vegetables come with the main rather than just meat and onion and sauce.

Topkapi is a Turkish Restaurant and Takeaway…read more I've only ever had takeaway from here, but can say it's the best Kebab I've enjoyed in Fife. The Owner and Head Chef, Murat, has been cooking Turkish food for over 25 years and that experience really comes through in the flavour of the dishes. Assisted by another friendly face in Ali, they give you the feeling that nothing is too much trouble and that they enjoy preparing food for you. So far I've tried the large Lamb Shish and Kofte mixed Kebab, which was both substantial and delicious. Tender meat, lightly spiced in the case of the Kofte with crisp salad, sauces and fresh pitta. I've also had the Lamb Sauté. This is a saucy, tomato based dish with slow cooked diced Lamb and served with a seeded bread that is like a cross between Naan and Ciabatta. My apologies for not knowing the name of it prior to the review. Again this was lovely but, if you are ordering this, please remember it is a sauce based dish so not a kebab. With that expectation, you should enjoy it very much. Having only discovered this place relatively recently, I've been three times already !!! Good food and friendly service will do that to you though :-)

We checked this place out, despite the lack of curb appeal, based on the one 5 star review we…read morefound on yelp. It didn't disappoint and would highly recommend. It was around 2:30 and he was was just working on opening but welcomed us in and fed us enough food for 3 people and it was delicious. Definitely recommend and such a welcome change from the bar food that is mostly prevalent throughout the country.

Istanbul Kebabs

Many Edinburgh students are familiar with the two Palmyra kebab houses in the area, and Istanbul…read moreKebabs seem to cater to the exact same crowd. Burgers, pizzas, and most importantly kebabs, are the main dishes on offer, as well as the sacred falafel wrap! What does confuse me is that half the menu has the name Palmyra right next to it. I know the name isn't exclusive to kebabs, but I get the feeling Palmyra may supply a lot of the food Istanbul Kebabs serves. Could Palmyra be so cutting edge in the market, other take outs want their food? I will be investigating this. However, as far as taste is concerned, there's little to complain about, and whilst the place is far from glamorous, I was pleased with my doner kebab! They're not too expensive, and veeery conveniently located if you're a Pollock halls student (which I was at the time) so good for a quick bite.

The latest in a long line of ever changing Kebab restaurants, Istanbul is where Palmyra used to be,…read moreand before that Oscar's. And nothing has changed since the Palmyra days, not even the menu. They still do good kebabs, great ones when you're coming home a little worse for wear, and the staff are all friendly. You can get a small kebab for about £3.50 and a large for for a fiver which is pretty good given Edinburgh's fondness for ludicrously overpriced Kebab shops. The only down side is that occasionally they are a little dried out, and the staff just throw in everything without asking if you want salad, sauce etc. This is not a problem for but I know a few people who are not too keen on their lettuce and it always causes a little bit of hassle. Not quite as good as the Palmyra closer into town but still a fine Kebab shop nonetheless

McDonald's

I'm not normally a lover of McDonald's as you'll see from my other reviews but this one is…read morepassable. Its always busy as its just off the bridge and has passing trade coming off the M9. The staff are quite knwledgeable about their menu and they seem to have more special offers on here than in other McD's. The restaurant isn't that big and if you can get one of the armchairs when you sit down as they are really comfy. The restaurant is clean and tidy although the only views is of the car park and the hotel next door, you can't actually see the bridges from here. The toilets, same as any other McD's toilets I'm afraid quite disgusting although these ones are in a better state than some and you see someone going in and cleaning them every 20 minutes if they are really busy! Which is nice to see.

I had heard alot about this Scottish restaurant chain that appears to be making a name for itself…read moreacross the country so I decided to pop in and see what the hype was about for myself. Initial impressions were not the most favourable, the furniture is mainly bolted down (theft may be an issue for them?) and menu failed to inspire - no haggis or cranachan to be seen or heard, but may be this is one of those food fusion restaurants? it did have some german food, such as hamburgers and also french fries. Table service was non-existent and cutlery was severely lacking. However, once we had navigated the strange food acquisition system, we received our meals quite promptly. As one who rarely eats a burger, I was pleasantly surprised - it was well seasoned and contained a host of condiments. Their chips, or "french fries" to use the vernacular, satisfactory and the range of drinks was adequate if somewhat limited. Children seem to be quite taken with the restaurant, and many appear to have received gifts from the friendly staff. While I would recommend this for families, our Bridge club will most likely chose a different venue for next years annual dinner and prize giving/awards ceremony
