There are plenty of comfy couches if you want to settle in for the evening, but there's also a great outdoor courtyard to hang out in as well as a music room where the DJ is set up. It wasn't crowded on a Saturday night at 11 which is a bit questionable for being in such a hopping area of town, but quite frankly I think it's just an undiscovered gem and you get the feeling from being in the bar that the owners are likely to have the mentality of "we're not going to whore ourselves out to get people in here, we're cool enough that if people find us then great but if not their loss." Definitely will be back!

Hidden down some stairs you'll find a bar and a dance floor which plays home to bands, DJ's and grovie hipsters. Tatlers always has an excellent vibe - it used to be tres popular a few years ago... and the fuss has died down since then , but you'll still find it packed on a Saturday night.... A great place to go if you feel like having a dance and letting loose...

The classic decor is lovely with various seating options including lounge booths. Pleasant ambient lighting and music. A good option for a bite to eat as they offer tapas plates, share plates, salads and even more substantial meals. There is a three small plate deal for $41 / four small plate deal for $50 which is quite good value. The drinks menu is extensive. Prices are quite expensive. I had a $16 mocktail but it was tiny. Cocktails are $19-26. Beer is $9-12. Coffee is $7! They do a cold drip coffee for $3 which is quite nice. They also offer high tea $55-$75 and high coffee $60 during the day. Quite nice to stop in for a drink before going out or before heading back to your room.

Great selection of yummy savoury options like finger sandwiches, quiches, savoury pastries. And of course lots of sweet dessert goodies! There were a lot of chocolate options and also a chocolate fountain. The setting is beautiful. We did not have a reservation, but they fit us in as a walk-in at a small coffee table with 2 ottoman seats. Not the most comfortable set up, but I appreciate the cozy atmosphere, almost like you are sitting in someone's very posh and dimly lit den. All the NOLA classics were featured, like Vieux Carre (no likey), old fashioned (likey), and hurricane. There were some twists on the classics as well. I liked the newer house specialties, and ended up having 3 drinks, more than I intended. We snacked on some popcorn chicken, which was nothing special, but very satisfying when hungry. We were also lucky enough to be there when the live jazz band played a brief set, which really set the mood. I took off a star because not every drink was a homerun, and the service was a bit too impersonal for a speakeasy. We had a different server each time. One of my favorite parts of going to a speakeasy is to watch the bartenders work their magic and ask them for recommendations, and if I'm lucky, maybe get an off menu drink. Not quite set up that way here.

So we gave this one a go, and were quite pleased with it :) For one, this place is a LOT roomier than most of the cafes we've been to. It's got a nice open plan, with a big round table in the middle of the room for larger groups, and several smaller tables. I suppose it holds a pretty average number of people, but it's just set up nicely so it doesn't feel too crowded. It's got big windows with lots of natural light, which is super nice too. We walked there, mostly uphill all the way, and it was pretty warm out. I start sweating buckets after 5 min in anything over 20 degrees. So we (especially me) really appreciated that they had a couple of big fans in the place :P The decor is pretty great. My husband said it looks like a hip granny's house, which pretty much nails it. Everything is yellow, white, and green, but not like in an overwhelming way. It feels really chill and breezy. And they played cool funk music the whole time, which just added to the "hip granny" vibe. So, on to the food and drinks, which are just a bit important, haha. We got ourselves this strawberry tart to share, and my husband got a flat white. I had 2 drinks (I'm a thirsty lady), an iced tea with lemongrass and ginger and a Belgian hot chocolate. All of it was good. I loved the tart - it was flavourful without being overly sweet. My husband enjoyed his coffee. The iced tea was a bit surprising - you usually expect it to be sweet, but it was kind of savoury almost. It threw me off at first, but once I got over my dissonance there, it was pretty good. The hot chocolate was really nice too, very chocolatey but not overly rich. Also, the staff were nice and seemed pretty easygoing, much more than I usually see at cafes, so that was nice :) The only downside is that, as far as I know, there's no free wi-fi. That would be great, cos really it'd be a nice place to sit down and do some work for a while (something my husband was looking forward to doing). Aside from that, we were really happy with our outing and will probably go back again :)

On this Tuesday of random search for dinner, she suggested we "go to that place with the cool art at the front door and see what it's like inside". I didn't object. We got lucky because upon entry we were told by one of the owners, Nathaniel, that they had $10 pizzas with a purchase of a drink! YES! I highly recommend going on Monday or Tuesday for the $10 pizzas or even for after work drinks. They are also setup to host larger groups, which is great! We WILL be going again soon enough.

I guess the bar is meant to be in cocktail style because there were dedicated people taking orders and others making drinks, which seemed to take longer than usual bars. The music was overly loud so everyone had to shout to one another. They had this weird licensing issue where all alcohol had to be consumed whilst seated, putting a damper on the night. I thought a more likely story could be previous warnings from the police but I digress. The only positive of this place was the food. The pizza was awesome in flavour, texture and size.
