I have done business with The Empire on several occasions. My first experience was 8-10 years ago, for an agreed upon attempt to straighten the second stage on an old family snow blower from the 1970's for which parts are no longer available. They did a great job at for a reasonable fee. Whether I need a $3 shear bolt for that snow blower or self-repair advice, they're always happy to take a few minutes for their customers to discuss a problem or give advice. The rating provided requires some explanation. I've always been happy with the QUALITY of service provided. Been using them for over 15 years. The poor rating is associated with the fact they took it upon themselves to determine what parts needed to be replaced during an annual service visit. Instead of having the courtesy of contacting me to explain need and provide an estimated cost they elected to replace parts without explicit authorization. This led to a more expensive bill than anticipated. Worse, when calling about and questioning the cost, they arrogantly explained this actually saved time and money and indicated they don't have the time to call all customers for authorization. This is very poor customer service and not the way a respected business should operate. They have now lost my business as a result. read more

I strongly urge anyone with a need for parts, to go here! I needed a new spark plug, so I went to my local hdwe store and couldn't find a similar one, nor could I find a book to cross reference it. I asked for help and they paged someone, who never responded. That's the kind of service you get these days from chain stores. I went to the Empire and the guy who helped me, I'd guess he was the owner or Mgr. looked at my plug, stepped in the back and under $3 later and in less than 2 minutes I was gone. Today I bent the blade on my mower. I googled a few local big box stores to get an idea of availability and price. I then went to Empire and had a new blade within a couple of minutes, was able to park at the front door, no long waiting or crowds and received exceptional service and a better price than any big box store around. Why fight parking, people, and long lines? when this is the best place around! I'd give them 10 stars if possible! read more
