I found this place full of potential, but unable to hit the mark. At first, the ambiance is great. The front reminds you of Havana jazz with its plants and dapper barman. But, the magic slowly dissipates when you go to the back room. That room is dark and if you look hard enough a little dingy (I.e holes and stains on the couches). In addition, when I was there I got really cold because the heating wasn't quite enough. However, the cocktails were quite good. I had an Old Cuban. It was at once beautiful and delicious. The service was young and not very knowledgeable about their products. When asked what Chardonnay he had he didn't know the name nor its provenance. In conclusion, it was good, but no bananas.

Very good looking spot with nice 50's music, but: 1. It took forever to get our drinks (we were 4). 2. The waitress was actually unable to "deliver" them! She was shaking so much that I had to take them from the tray myself. 3. The place is divided in two areas and the atmosphere in the back is not as nice in the front. 4. The waiters are very young, and inexperienced which for a place like that just doesn't fit. 5. It is really a shame there's no space to "dance" (I don't mean like in a club, just as in a casual bar) while there is so much empty room and the music is so lively!

Formerly Bar Sans Nom (No Name Bar), The Emerald is one of the best bars that I have ever had the pleasure visiting. Their bartenders, always dressed in full tuxedos, are truly exceptional and highly skilled in preparing everything from a G&T to complex cocktails. The mood is upscale, formal, and elegant. The decor is reminiscent of the 1950s - 1960s (Mad Men comes to mind) and also features a more intimate, dimly-lit lounge area in the back. To give you an idea, the space is frequently used for movie sets as it is impeccably decorated and vividly cinematic. The Emerald is an exquisite, unique experience that I can't recommend highly enough.

Enjoyed the ambiance here when I passed through for a book launch shortly before the holidays. Ideal for a literary evening, or for a conversation with a well-suited friend at the bar, the space feels like it's tucked with decor brought home from long travels. Hints of Havana and East India in the 1950s when the light is just right. I only had a beer but glanced over the cocktail menu and would be curious to return.

An eloquent respite on av du Parc. The music ranged from whale sounds to rock. I preferred the whales.

The bar is now called Emerald. Great place for a drink in the Plateau. Good drinks at a good price. Atmosphere is very Cuban but Mile End style.

Emerald is a great place for medium and large groups

Unassuming and enchanting bar with dialed staff. Definitely lends a feeling of escapism and wish we had something like it in NYC.

For sure this is the best bar in town. Try the Moscow Mule. Then try another Moscow Mule. Great decor. Great staff. What more do u need?

Great staple of the Mile-End bar scene. Lounging on the front stoop is in the summer is where the cool kids are.

Really expensive drinks, terrible service, and no ambiance in the place. Not worth a detour.

They curate whatever drinks based on your preferences, including sweetness, fruitiness, etc. They ask you about your preferences, and then based on that they have a designated drink ready. It is not in a traditional menu where you order it which makes it all the more fun! The vibes were immaculate and very clean, the service was fairly nice even though they were busy. Drinks run $20 each and we're all amazing!

I'm a fan of cocktail bars, and after reading up on this spot I made it my intention to check it out. It just so happened that it was a short walk from my hotel, so we decided to check it out one night before heading to dinner. The Cloakroom is a speakeasy, nestled behind a hidden door in a men's clothing shop. In the line of being a speakeasy, the space is small - there are only 24 seats but since we got there right at opening we were seated right away. The space is dark and intimate, with the bottles of liquor lit up behind the bar providing an attractive focal point. One of the more unique features of the bar is that there's no menu; we told our server the types of liquors we wanted along with the flavor notes and they crafted a cocktail based on our tastes. We ultimately had two rounds; my first drink was vodka-based and fruity, while I went with something gin-based and dryer. Both were very good - there's little fanfare with presentation; the bartenders let the drinks speak for themselves. Service was great; due to the setup, each patron is given extra attention which really highlighted the experience. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at The Cloakroom Bar. This was definitely a unique experience with excellent curated drinks. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Montreal.

The interior was really fancy - so if for nothing else, you'll get a great photo from visiting this place. The bartender was friendly, but we didn't like any of the cocktails he recommended. Maybe we weren't very good at describing our flavor preferences. The service overall was great, and we even got some free shots for willing to switch seats for other customers. After visited few other speakeasies in Montreal and Quebec City, I can conclude that this was our least favorite stop.

Every cocktail is uniquely crafted with interesting ingredients creating delicious flavor profiles you won't find anywhere else. My friend and I arrived at around 9pm and there was already a short line waiting to get in. The good thing about being the first few in line is that you can get under the heat lamps and stay warm for the duration of your wait (a lifesaver in the middle of winter). After around 30 minutes, my friend and I were welcomed into the bar. The vibe is chic but somehow cozy. Probably because the service and the people in the bar are friendly creating a warm and welcoming environment. Our server made great recommendations for drinks. The La Recolte is one of the best and most complex drinks I've had in a while where you can really taste the Asian influences like the pandan and chinese dates. The drink is smooth and perfectly balanced so it's not too sweet, has the alcohol kick, and a slight creaminess from the coconut milk. The butter cookie is a great touch. The Chichera was also really unique and I loved the coffee infused coconut oil. My friend got the It's a Fugazzi and the Purple Rain which were both very pleasant to drink. If you come to any cocktail bar in Montreal, definitely come to Atwater because you won't be disappointed. These cocktails are really one of a kind.
