I've been going to the Elegant Farmer for about 15 years, mostly for apple picking, but at times my wife and I like to go there to pick up some food as well. They do have items that are unusual compared to what I would find in a local grocery store. That atmosphere inside the barn is nice too. It's hard not to go there and not spend more than you planned, but it is not just because the food is so tempting. Probably my only complaint about Elegant Farmer is the cost. We bought a chicken pot pie for $21.99. That seemed like a lot, and my suspicions were confirmed later when we went to another supermarket and saw a similar-sized chicken pot pie for $7.99. I can't imagine what is in their pie that would justify that high of a price. It's a chicken pot pie, for Pete's sake. My wife and I left with $50.53 worth of items. The other items were priced a little high, but nothing like the sticker shock of the chicken pot pie. Will we go back? Probably, but not as often and we won't be buying as much. Ummm I usually love this place, but this RUDE woman ruined my day. It was a beautiful Saturday and I was in the mood to pick some apples and take Instagram pictures. Online it said they close at 6pm, and I arrived at 5. I was then scolded that I couldn't pick apples, even though I drove over half an hour to get there. I was given 2 minutes to grab apples and when I returned to pay, I was criticized for taking an extra 3 minutes longer. If employees were required to wear name tags, I would've included her name so Elegant Farmer could have her terminated. She's short, older, and has brown, wavy hair. read more

The pie in a bag is a great gimmick to separate you from your money. I've had way better pie in many places. And the Baby Rice Popcorn is a total ripoff. The corn is advertised to pop smaller so it's more tender. More than 50% of the bottle under pops, leaving a husk so dense, it hurts when it's chewed. Go head and make a purchase if you want to lighten your wallet and end up with regret. read more

They are nice, the food is pretty good. I've always liked and looked forward to going. However the last time I went will be my last time. We went inside, none of the staff I saw were wearing masks, the person preparing the pulled pork had gloves, no mask, the person serving me had no mask, but gloves, and as I left the cashier didn't have a mask. I was grateful the girl at the deli counter checked me out, so I didn't have to be exposed to more unmasked people for a longer time. A sign indicating masks are required on the door was completely ignored by both staff and patrons, from what I could see. I understand people have personal choice, I understand it's uncomfortable to wear a mask all day, but I also understand that the people coming in without masks cans spread Covid to anyone, and distancing and masks help. I JUST recovered from Covid, finished a 10 day quarantine, and tested negative. It is not fun and this is not a joke. I have family that is immunocompromised, and if they get it, they could DIE. I'm not willing to take that chance for a pie or anything else that is sold there. My family's life is worth more to me than a purchase from a place that shows little concern for their customers well being during a world-wide pandemic. I'm not certain I feel comfortable ordering for shipping or picking up an Elegant Farmer pie if I see one at the grocery store. I will not return. read more

This is a wonderful shop. When you walk in it just feels good and the decor is so inviting. They have a lot of yummy soup pouches. The shop has many homemade products like pot pies, apple or cherry pies, fudge and 2 different homemade carry out soups. They also have really cute bird houses hanging outside. I bought a soup packet, beef sticks, Carmel popcorn and a delicious apple pie. It's just a feel good shop, fun to walk around and take your time looking. read more

based on that paper bag apple pie - I received this pie in the mail for my birthday.... and when people say "best pie I've ever had" I dare you to try this apple pie and compare - which pie is the best pie you've ever had? you bake it in the over and whatever sauce oozes out as it bakes, it gets caramelized and then you find yourself eating the syrup drippings that have hardens on the paper and I probably ate alot of paper but it was worth it. this is THE BEST PIE I have EVER had. It's free to get in, but the hayride cost, so if you have time and the weather permits, I wouldn't pay and just meander through the trees! Four words... Pie in a bag! The Elegant Farmer's apple pie should come with a warning label. "So delicious you may just explode from sensory overload." I have never had anything before or since that even comes close to comparing to their apple pie. They even try to take it to yet another level by adding caramel two they're already perfect creation. It's actually too much for me. Way too much! I am perfectly happy with the regular original. Happy? What I'm trying to say is, I am absolutely beyond delighted, and it needs nothing else. Okay, maybe a scoop or vanilla ice cream, but only if you can survive it! (See warning label above). Finally, The apple cider donuts are out of this world, as well. They have the best pie! I am not a huge pie fan cause the pie filling is usually too sweet and too mushy. One of my friends who is a foodie highly recommended this place to me, so I decided to give it a try. We shared the caramel apple pie - it was still pretty sweet but in a proper and good way! I loved how I could eat lots of apples while enjoying the super delicious thick crust! The place itself also seemed very interesting with lots of local fresh groceries and bakeries to buy. Back again this year buy we were a bit too late for apple picking. Temps were in the 30's and many of the apples were on the ground or partially frosted. We managed to make a peck. We got there about 9:40AM and parked in the hill. They aren't kidding. You can't enter the orchard til 10! We went shopping instead and got some ham and rolls, cheese, and pumpkin bread. Can't forget the hot donuts! I think I heard them say they are closing for the season. We love it though and will try to pick a warmer weekend. read more

I am disappointed to say that the service was poor. I only ordered a hot dog and as a person that also Works in the food industry I understand that sometimes you have to wait. However, they didn't even bother to Say there was a wait on hot dogs. As they became available they chose to serve the hot dogs to those who ordered after us and with bigger hot dog orders. They asked what I needed as I waited but never responded. They kept giving out the bigger hot dog orders while I waited for 1 hot dog. Unfortunately I had to ask 3 times. Such a cute fall farm! Apple picking, corn maze, hayrides, pumpkin patches and more! The apple pie here is amazing. I also bought the habanero salsa with their salted chips and it was AMAZING. Oh man, i would go back to go pick up more! It's delicious but spicy! I also picked up the banana bread which is great too. Used to love the bakery items, but since covid (and they were closed for a few weeks because of not following sanitizing protocols some of their employees had covid) they don't seem to really care much for their safety and of their customers. They have a great market, hay wagon, apple picking, and pumpkins! I was a bit surprised to find that their "pumpkin patch" was pre-cut pumpkins scattered through a field. Used to drive 30 minutes south of me for many years, just to be the fresh made Apple Cider Donuts, they discontinued the outdoor building the time Covid came around and hasn't been the same since. I gave it a try last year and this year and have taken them off my things to do in the Fall. Although the still offer them in the main building the quality and recipes is different. I can't believe that I've never been here before. You want pickled things? Baked things? Little-effort-on-your-part-to-put-together things? Yes, yes and yes. It's all here! Picture every food item you've ever seen for sale in small town touristy type places like the Dells, Lake Geneva and ALL of Door County. That shit is here in spades! And yes, because Elegant Farmer is a touristy type place, said shit is overpriced. But, you buy it, because, you know, it's only once a year that you come out to a farm and pick your own apples/pumpkins/gourds/other fall items and buy "home made" shit. We walked out of this place with 2 bags of pita chips to go with the cranberry salsa we sampled. Also, a cinnamon roll, a packet of "Mexicocoa: Mexican Spiced Hot Chocolate" and of course, the real reason you come to this particular tourist trap, a pie baked in a paper bag. For as busy as the place was on our visit (lines out the door), there was still a decent selection of pies to choose from. And, if your particular flavor was missing from the shelf, all you had to do was wait 3 minutes and a worker would come out of a back room with a cart loaded with your pie and several others. On our visit, we chose a caramel apple pie. Damn that thing looked good! The pita chips were gobbled up within a week of our visit. The cranberry salsa just got thrown out last week (it got relegated to the nether regions of the refrigerator after getting sick of it within days of our visit). The cinnamon roll got eaten as soon as we got outside and found a seat. It was akin to a Cinnabon, just not served warm. The hot chocolate? I'm drinking it as I type....not spicy at all, but rather dull in flavor, like baking chocolate; like actual, off the tree cocoa. Not creamy like the cocoa we're all used to, and I made this cup with milk, not water. The pie lasted a few days, because, I mean, we're not animals. Ok, technically, we are, but we exercised some restraint and decimated the shit out of that pie over the course of a week (c'mon, it was apples and caramel!)....a record that it lasted that long in this house! So, a solid 4 stars because it's too expensive to give 5 stars, but I'm not kidding myself. I'll be back for more pie. 137/2015 read more

The apple pie was everything you could ask for in a pie and worth the early morning drive from Madison, WI and back to barely make it to my flight home to share with my family. Do you like apple pie? What am I saying, of course you do! But even if you don't, you still might want to try one from Elegant Farmer. They bake their pies in a paper bag. You may have heard of this and say "So what?" And the truth is, I don't know what it does except get the paper caught in the folds of the crust sometimes. But there is something special about the pies here. It is almost as if they have a layer of icing on the inside of the crust. This seems impossible to me, but that is what the flavor and texture seem to indicate. And it is truly something unique and worth seeking out. Everything else about the pie is darn near perfect too, but that crust is the best. Additionally they have variations like peach-apple and caramel apple that you have to try too. But while you are there, have lunch. Get one of the biggest pulled pork sandwiches you have ever seen. And the flavor is quite good to boot. Or have one of the best ham and cheese sandwiches possible. They have good potato salads and other sides. The apple sauce is outstanding. Honestly it is like a grocery store, so you have to go to see everything they have. But then there is the apple orchard, to pick from with the family, and you have a full day family outing. we've been buying the pies from Piggly wiggly for many years and the size went from a 9" to an 8", so I took a friend to the actual home of The Elegant Farmer and purchased the 9". I was so disappointed to find that the crust was thin...it used to be thick and would flow over the sides of the pan and parts of it would caramalize and you could break pieces off that were soooo delicious. Now it's up there with all of the other ordinary pies.. To me this was their signature element that no other pie had, i couldn't beIieve it is now just like any other pie even though the flavor and the apples are exceptional. We decided to eat lunch there and picked out a slice of cherry pie and apple pie to share. Both of these were terrible, we thought they would be the same as the full size pies! Nope, completely tasteless and the apple had a sickly sweet icing drizzled on to. My family started coming to Elegant Farmer before I was even born. I have been to Elegant Farmer 1-2 times a year for the past 31 years. One thing I love about Elegant Farmer is that it's a no gimmicks type of place. Sure, they've added a few things in the last 31 years but for the most part it's stayed the same. I don't need any games or gimmicks, I just want to celebrate the harvest season with my family. It's affordable for everyone. You could literally go there with $0 and have a blast walking around the orchards and sampling apples. It runs like a well oiled machine - it's always busy but not too busy. This year we had an older gentleman say to us "I see you every year" and it made my kids smile. My oldest replied "I hope so this is my 9th year coming!". No matter where my adult siblings have moved out of state we've always come together here every October. Elegant Farmer is my single favorite childhood tradition and I love that it's become my children's too. read more

The crust to apple ratio was too high though. Filling - as stated above, not much filling as I would've liked. But it was five-star delicious for the filing I got. Overall, it looked great. I was recommended to go here by a friend and it was absolutely something I'd recommend to others too! I'd add this to my yearly fall to-do list when in Wisconsin! It was fairly crowded since it was a busy weekend, but we went early enough to beat the complete rush and find a fairly close parking stall. QUICK SUMMARY OF BELOW: 1. Go early, 2. Wear rain boots, 3. Be ready to spread fall cheer :), 4. Get a pie! A friend and I went apple picking. While there were fewer apples than we hoped, it was what we could expect from going towards the end of the season. For just $10 we got a fairly large bunch of apples (around 16 or so) and they were all super tasty! Really enjoyable experience for people of all ages. The fields are definitely a cute place to capture fall pictures, so if you want cute candid photos this is a good place! After apple picking we went to the store. I wanted to buy EVERYTHING from honey to tea, to baked goods and produce. I settled on just some honey and a caramel apple pie. The pie is HANDS DOWN the best pie I have ever eaten and I'm so excited they sell them at a select number of grocery stores in the Milwaukee area year round. WARNING: The fields were VERY muddy when we were walking through and apple picking (rip white vans), so I'd suggest wearing rain boots or shoes you can wash easily! read more
