It has a personalized "I'm going to that OneReallyAwesome Aunt's house" bed & breakfast-style feel; a classy and creative getaway! Bring your girls and stay for a night or more in one of the two sleepover rooms... or come just for a day to experience one of the many craft workshops offered. My first time to the Art Cottage was an all day soldering/jewelry workshop with artist Terri Brush. The warm and bubbly owners, Kim & JoNell, planned a beautiful tomato soup & italian panini lunch for us halfway through the day, adding culinary excellence to the already amazing experience. The only thing that could make an art workshop at the Cottage better is plenty of inspiring snacks-- and they had those covered too! They served a caramel apple dessert, coffee, tea, and other refreshments through the art day, including a tray of leaf-shaped autumnal cookies straight out of the oven. The Cottage's class schedule is expanding and it's eclectic, ranging from soldering, jewelry, and photography workshops to mushroom foraging adventures (!!) and full cooking classes and demonstrations. The Queen Bee Art Cottage is a unique blend of creativity, escape, and enlightenment. Go to play, refresh, and let your artistic side come out... all while feeling posh and pampered!

We spent two days and one night at the cottage participating in the French Flea and had many opportunities to observe Kim and JoNell as the organizers and gracious hosts of a major event. The French Flea is an upscale market offering unusual and sought after items to the public with something for everyone. The vendor selection was great and included local and out of state folks. A big thanks to Mary Corso, Courtyard Antique Mall owner, for inviting me. Her enthusiasm and attention to detail makes every event a positive experience. The caterers served creative and ample portions of tasty food at a very fair price. Loved the watermelon water, it was such a refreshing surprise on our 97 degree day!. Another big bonus was the ample parking provided for the vendors and the public. The cottage is easy to find, less then a mile from the freeway but a tranquil world apart. The cottage was open to the public throughout the event and we heard many oohs and aahs as visitors explored the many nooks, crannies and amenities provided for guests. The cottage is a delightful retreat offering custom bed linens, fluffy guest robes, a great shower in the bathroom and several comfortable areas for lounging, reading or cozy visiting as in our case. And pampering begins as you arrive and continues your entire visit. We were welcomed back to the cottage after a long day with wine, cupcakes and candles. However my favorite treat, was fresh brewed coffee which greeted us in the morning , a great start to another day at the cottage. And you ask...would we participate in the French Flea again...am already signed up and preparing for next years event! Again you ask, would we return to the cottage...a resounding yes, just as soon as our schedules permit. Go and Enjoy!

Anyway: Above the Sound genuinely deserves every star. My in-laws stayed here for nine nights and ten days and their experience was outstanding. They started out in the ground floor suite, which was spacious and cool (very welcome during the heat wave) and very comfortable. Another couple had booked the suite for the holiday, so halfway through their stay my in-laws moved upstairs to a smaller but equally lovely room. (This had all been worked out ahead of time. Bill was gracious and helpful when it came to their move.) The ground floor suite is very groovy and off-beat. It's full of antiques and taxidermy and I liked it a lot. We joined my husband's parents there for dinner (cold cuts and salad from a local grocery) and it was just right. The upstairs room is a little more like a traditional hotel room. Comfortable, clean, breezy, and just nice. My husband and my parents and myself all spent a lot of time visiting with the in-laws in both spaces and personally I'd be happy to spend a few nights in either. The breakfasts were INCREDIBLE. My in-laws were generous enough to invite us to join them for breakfast several times. All they had to do was give Bill a heads-up a day in advance and pay a small additional fee to cover our meals--UNBELIEVABLE food, with exceptional presentation and kind, attentive service. The fruit! The eggs! The everything! Bill and Cindy accommodated my weird dietary restrictions (I'm a bariatric patient) without a blink so I was able to join the family in a wonderful meal without compromising my food regimen. Seriously, everything was great about my in-laws' stay at Above the Sound but the breakfasts were the standout attraction. If my in-laws didn't want to do the full breakfast on a given day, there was a lovely continental breakfast available. I'm so glad we know about this place now; definitely recommending Above the Sound to future out-of-town visitors.

We live in Las Vegas and we were visiting Aberdeen for a funeral. This is the town my husband grew up in and he hadn't been back in over 20 years. We could not find Hotels in the area, only motels. I was pleasantly surprised to have found this B&B and quickly booked the Canterbury room. It was clean, cozy and spacious. The bathroom was large and it had a lot of counter space for makeup and toiletries. The Aberdeen weather in March is pretty cold, but it was nice to return to a nice cozy and warm room in the evenings after spending the day with family. Breakfast was amazing! Billy, Cindy's son, is a great cook and very hospitable just like her. I returned to Las Vegas and missed eating my breakfasts overlooking the harbor and the beautiful Broadway Hill neighborhood. We also enjoyed great conversations a couple of days with a Doctor whom we met there. It was a great visit/vacation to my husband's hometown. Thank you Cindy and Billy for your hospitality! I highly recommend A Harbor View Inn.

It is very accessible from Portland and the drive there is beautiful, and when you arrive at your destination you immediately feel at peace. Brian and Linda do a great job of making you feel welcome. We brought our own snacks and had a picnic in the gazebo and enjoyed the view of the river, which is so wide at that point that it almost gives the visual of being at the ocean as ships rolled by. We stayed in the Hummingbird Room which has a very comfortable bed and a wonderful view out of the window. The rates are very affordable and include breakfast - Brian is a great cook and they offer several meal options. We added the firewood package and were so glad we did, as I type this I wish I could be back there next to the fire while looking at the river. They only have two rooms so if you went with some friends you would have the whole place to yourselves. This really is a hidden gem and I highly recommend making the trip while you can.
