Extremely disappointed in the atmosphere. We came in in celebration mood..... playing darts and cheering each other on. We were told "shut er down with the cheering and whistles " ... to top it off the drink was flat .... I've got some really good things to say about this bar. Not being local, I have no idea if this was really an old firehouse. But if it wasn't, whoever designed it surely made it feel authentically like an old firehouse. The decor is firehouse-themed without being in your face about it. I imagine that the big garage-style doors open up on nice days. The space is really friendly and inviting, with high top tables, sidebar spots and of course the main bar. There are 40 taps at once, with a super broad selection of really excellent beer. It took a long time for us to even decide what to order -- a sure good sign among our beer-loving crowd. This would be a mighty fine place to waste away an afternoon or evening kicking back with good beer and some friends. There's popcorn for the asking and I understand there's pizza, though we didn't see any during our stay. So not a place for eating but a great place for drinking. Bar staff was friendly and efficient. They knew their beer. Finally -- the prices. I was blown away when I went to close out my tab and found seven beers cost us a grand total of $26 plus tip. I know it's a college town and so no one can really charge super premium prices, but holy moly. That's about as cheap as it gets for an afternoon of really good drinking. Maybe I'm just used to paying more in the Cities, but I was totally shocked when I saw the total. Sure we'll be back next time we're in town. read more

It's beer lovers paradise. 40 beers on tap, including two on nitro and two cask aged brews hand drawn with a beer engine. Frozen pizza and free popcorn, otherwise order in food or bring your own. The service can be spotty, sometimes it's a bit understaffed for the number of customers, but...it's all about the beer here. No one locally comes close to this variety. EC Fire House went from a 4 star to a 2 star, and I don't think I will be returning. I came to this bar on a Friday night, to find it relatively busy, which is generally a good sign! However, it took about 6 minutes to get a first drink. I understand being busy, but people who I'm assuming were their friends were coming up to the bar to grab drinks after I'd been standing there, and they were getting refills before I was even acknowledged initially. It was super disappointing, because they have a lot of delicious options on tap, but I felt like service was severely lacking. The second time I went up for a beer it took even longer. If you know the bartenders, or have a while to stand around waiting, this is the bar for you. I hope it changes in the future, I'd like to frequent it more often. read more

Cool bar built under a building with large open garage doors on one side (looks like a firehouse) these are open when warm and closed when it's cold for your optimal drinking pleasure. Passed by when a friend and I were walking my dog and asked if we could all come in (come in is a general term because the large garage doors were open and it was like half inside/outside) and they let us have some drinks with the pup at our feet. Good beer. Lots of it. And a wide variety. Nicely remodeled building, lots of firefighting related decorations, and friendly staff. During the summer they roll up the doors and the front and it's like sitting outside. Mixed crowd, usually young professionals, hipsters, and old farts. No drunk college kids. They run a great trivia night on Tuesdays, and have beer-related events pretty frequently. When you order, be sure to check the details on the big blackboard behind the bar. Some of the beers they're carrying come in small snifter glasses because they're really potent. If you're used to drinking Bud, be sure to ask questions about what you're ordering. The bar staff are knowledgeable, and will usually let you try a sample or two. It gets pretty loud when it's crowded, but that's mostly crowd noise. They keep the music at a reasonable level. You can get frozen pizzas, but they don't offer any other food. The pizzas are actually pretty good for being frozen, but don't expect to get a meal here. read more

Awesome craft beer bar! So many local area beers and so much more! They offer 48 different taps I believe. You can do sample sizes of each beer or flights if you would like. This gives you an opportunity to try several different styles. We had an amazing bartender that was a pleasure to talk to. He offerd suggestions, knew the town, knew different breweries nearby, was able to tell us about some places nearby to try and was just a cool guy to talk too. My wife and I both said that we would stop here again if we were back in town for any reason. This is a place for anyone who loves beer you have to stop here if passing through town! read more

Went here this passed Saturday. The setting and vibe was really cool. Loved how they had a variety of beer choices to choose from. Wish the bartenders were a little more interactive since we were sitting at the bar, we only bought 3 beers between the 2 of us and would have liked to known a little more about the beer choices because I would have been more than willing to try more. One of the best bars in the - highly underrated - downtown area. Forget about Water Street, spare yourself the embarrassment of The Pickle and spend your entire night watching sports at The Firehouse. It's owned by a UWEC alum, so that's awesome, AND, duh, best part - 40 beers on tap. Guaranteed there is something for everyone - even people who are not super into beer. There are typically 3 or 4 fruity, more "juice-like" beers that are hard to dislike. Prices may vary from like $4 a glass to upwards of $10 for the super fancy ones. If you're used to the $2 Miller Lites during happy hour at whatever the hell on Water Street, this may come as a surprise that beer can cost more than $5. This place can get super packed on Saturday nights and during major sporting events, so if that's not your thing, just keep that in mind. I've also been here at like 3:00PM on a Sunday, and there is basically nobody there, so if you are into quiet bars, go at 3:00PM on a Sunday. Minimal food is available; I've only just had popcorn here. But there's lots of restaurants nearby, so just go there. Now that all my friends have graduated from UWEC and I no longer live in the Midwest, I'm super sad that I don't have a reason to go here anymore. Hopefully someday I'll have a reason to return to Eau Claire, and I guarantee this will be one of the first places I go! read more

Probably one of the few places in town with 30+ beers on tap, and a constantly changing list at that. Pretty popular place, especially on weekends, so get there early if you want a seat. The atmosphere is pretty upbeat, however, I give it three stars because I've never been overly pleased with the bartenders. Don't get me wrong, there have been a couple good ones; however, it always seems like someone is an inconvenience if they take longer than 10 seconds to choose a drink, and I rarely ever see a smile. They have a wide selection of over 40 beers on any given day and for the non-beer connoisseurs, there is still a full bar and some domestic bottled beer. Make sure that you temper your expectations on food, because they don't really serve any. If you are one of the rare patrons not living off of a trust fund, the prices are up there and after traveling around the U.S. and finding other craft beer bars I think The Firehouse is pretty expensive. Great beer selection. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE I went here a week ago to check out the 30+ beers on tap. I got one pint from the less than friendly bartender and it was tasty, but a bit flat. I ordered one of the Lucette beers and it was absolutely awful. I asked the other bartender if it was supposed to taste like that and he told me that it was a screw up from when they were trying to make their Easy Rider Ale. I thought it was a bit odd that they would buy a beer that was a mistake. I made it clear to the bartender that the beer was bad, but he didn't offer to swap out my beer and walked away. I asked the first bartender and she informed me that she could not pour me a different beer and walked away. I couldn't actually believe the lack of customer service. All she had to do was pour me a different $6 beer that they pay $1 for and I would have been a customer for life. Instead, they lost me as a customer and I will now tell everyone I know (and you) that they should never give this place their business. Enough said. read more
