Restaurants receive ratings that discuss all the Yelp-suggested "few things to consider in [a] review: food, service, and ambiance," but there isn't a category suggested for what this restaurant encompasses. I know I can't even find one word. What makes my review particularly insightful is that I've never even been there. In fact, I live almost 9k miles away (over 14k km) on another continent. So here's the tale:
My Texas daughter and Australian boyfriend (who both live in Brooklyn) just got engaged. Etiquette gives the BtoBe's family the opportunity to host the GtoBe's parents for dinner. Alas, with 16 hours and oceans separating us, I had to get creative. I set up a Zoom call for each of us, created fun games to break the ice and get to know each other, and sent each family champagne for a virtual toast.
I sent dinner to my Brooklyners but had to find a way to send brunch to the Aussies so we could all have "dinner" together. I had to find locations close to their home that offered what I wanted--an elegant selection of menu items-- who could or would deliver. After approaching a dozen restaurants, only one responded ("We would be delighted to cater to (a small part) of your engagement zoom meeting on November 20th...Mimosas and all!"): Driftwood Cafe!
On U.S. Nov. 19/Aussie Nov. 20, DWCafe sent our in-laws-to-be a lovely assortment of both sweets and savories, and I haven't even been invoiced yet!!!
The food? Our new family couldn't have given more praise.
Ambience ("the character and atmosphere of a place")? I've never experienced more character from a business, and the atmosphere they helped create was one of excitement, love, and new beginnings.
Service? The definition of!
Ty Simons (if my Googling has gotten his last name correct) is a jewel! read more
