I have to say up front - we come here for the beautiful balcony views first, and the wine second. Not that the wines are bad mind you, just that the view is that good. We emailed them during the week to book for Saturday lunch and were told it was booked out, so it was surprising to arrive for a tasting to see more than half the tables were empty and be told we could have one as long as we cleared out in two hours time (People must do long lunches around here!) so always worth trying your luck. Food is decent without being mind-blowing: tasty fish and chips, calamari, burgers and meatball pasta were our choices and everyone left happy. The wines are hit and miss for me. Some really nice ones, others don't impress - but I should say that some of my tasting buddies had the opposite experience and loved what I didn't, and weren't taken with what i loved - so it's one of those that might polarise taste buds. The best this about a Jack Rabbit's vineyard cafe (apart from the wine) is the coastal view. Sitting back and taking in a backdrop of where the vineyards meet the sea is pretty special. The view makes up the fourth star of my review. The wine is excellent. I tried the shiraz and pinot noir and greatly enjoyed the subtleties of each. The food is OK. Not bad, but definitely could be so much better. Being my second time at Jack Rabbit, I ordered the grazing plate this time. It was quite meagre in size and certainly (bread aside) nothing one could really graze on. A small portion of dip, the cheese consisted of two small pieces of feta, plus there were a few pieces of salami, chorizo (you get the picture). If was good, but felt more like catering for the masses than a selection of gourmet goods carefully put together for your enjoyment. The customer service at this busy space was polite and attentive. Well, to say I am disappointed is the understatement of the century. Following MONTHS of email communication with the events manager, I was feeling confident that a pretty straightforward lunch with a sign and some pre-delivered flowers would be smooth and hassle free event. Clearly, it was naive of me to expect that Jack Rabbit is the sort of venue that can handle something so simple. The bride and her party arrived to be told that there was no booking, no mention of a Bridal Shower. There was no table set up, no sign, no flowers. After 30mins of discussion with one of your staff members (who said repeatedly and EXTREMELY rudely said that "we don't hold decorations, that's not something we ever do, you definitely were not told that would be okay") one of the waitresses found the $100 sign stuffed out the back. How lovely, glad it was being treated so nicely. The table was crammed in the corner of the room, with the party so tightly seated that they couldn't move their elbows. They could barely move their chairs out, and the table was CLEARLY not meant for 13 guests - I'd hazard a guess at 10, maximum. The flowers, which I had confirmed repeatedly with the events manager that they would be set up, were not on the table - one of the staff members managed to rummaged up a few of them that had been stashed out the back in some office. It wasn't until the girls were leaving the event that they discovered a tray full of dried-out vases that had been carelessly tossed out the back somewhere, sitting directly in the hot sun. The drinks, which I had pre-planned and confirmed, were not delivered - the wait staff claimed that they had not been informed of any wine pre-selection. The girls had to pretty much choose on the spot. What on earth was the point of confirming the choice? I am so, so angry. Living in the US, I was powerless to supervise the set up, and Jack Rabbit's assured me time and again that everything would be under control. The events manager wasn't even there - this i can forgive, because something unforeseen had happened. But, the rest of the staff were given no instructions, no heads-up. It was like the months of discussion between the two of us had never happened. This was meant to be a special day for my baby sister, but instead it was just a messy, uncomfortable, stressful, embarrassing, classless lunch. There was no point me booking months in advance - the party literally could have walked in off the street, and it would have been the same. DO NOT HOLD ANY EVENT HERE. DO NOT EAT HERE. Do yourself a favour, and go anywhere else. God help you if you book a wedding - you'll probably turn up on the day to find some other party in the room. I came for the location and view but certainly left impressed by the food and wine. We ate in the more formal restaurant (as opposed to the cafe) and enjoyed a table for two on the deck overlooking Corio Bay at its finest. The food was beautiful...the chef really knows how to prepare and season seafood and the plating was spectacular (without being over the top). What would I recommend...everything...it was all fantastic so choose your favourite protein and sit back and relax. We had the Leura Park Reserve Chardonnay...can highly recommend it. read more

As we followed a number of cars into the driveway, the bay and canola fields came into view. The cafe was already very busy at 12.30pm. We had a booking in the restaurant for my Dad's 70th Birthday and the host remembered what I had said on the phone and wished him a happy birthday. The staff were attentive, pleasant and able to have a joke. The restaurant wasn't too busy but there were 6 tables of patrons. The food was exceptional. I had an entree of prawns and free range chicken, hay smoked carrot and confit egg with puffed grains. My parents had eye fillet and lamb plus banana split and creme caramel. The banana split didn't have actual banana and the creme caramel had pop rocks (popping candy)! My description of the food in no way does it justice. It certainly wasn't as simple as described. The wine, well we had bubbles, Moscato and Cab Sav - all just great! One of the nicest bubbles I have had! This is a place you just have to visit and experience! read more

The view here is spectacular, we usually eat in the more casual dining area which is fun on a warm sunny day, try and get a seat out on the edge of the outdoor dining area though to really soak in the views. The food is generally good and the service does well under the circumstances when we have been there both times on busy Sundays. read more

Had lunch at the jack rabbit winery cafe today -sadly disappointing. I had the blue swimmer crab cakes which were pretty tasteless and only came with a little salad as garnish on the plate. My partner had the jacks dog- sausage and caramelised onion on a bun with mustard and chips. Was ok except for the very long hair he found on one of the chips at the end. Restaurant was informed and a refund and an apology was provided thankfully . Others in our party had the bellarine tasting plate and the smoked duck dish. Restaurant seemed to struggle to convert the fish and chip dish we also had to a grilled fish and salad . We had to end up ordering the duck salad dish as well just to get some salad. Again very disappointing. Only thing worth anything during this visit was the view -gorgeous. Best to come for a coffee or a drink and enjoy the view instead! read more

Come to this place for the view. All the tables overlook the ocean. Its a perfect place to sit and enjoy the weather. The food, while not astounding, is very good. The staff are all excellent and the ambience is luxurious but comfortable. Overall a great place to spend an afternoon. read more

Review of the cafe only!! Views and location is spectacular. Service was friendly although they did get some of our meals confused and one main course came 10 mins after the others!! Food in general is what you would expect in a cafe ! Pricing was reasonable at around $18 for a main. Only one choice for desert:( The only thing I would say was the coffee (latte) was very average . It's always a joy to visit Jack Rabbit. Sitting on the deck with a tasty meal and delightful glass of wine, taking in the extraordinary views is a pretty nice way to spend a few hours on a sunny day. We went to the bistro/cafe section of the winery to have lunch. The view was absolutely spectacular, looking over Port Phillip Bay, and the staff were very lovely. The food was good however the serving sizes are very large. All in all it was a fun and pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend. read more
