We rented the Carnegie (2 BR, 2 BA) at The Drexel. Before move-in, we rated The Drexel 5 stars. Their staff leaned in during the sales process and we were able to quickly sign a lease. The square footage and in-unit washer and dryer were great for our family. We enjoyed the pool, too, even though we had to clean it ourselves every Saturday before swimming and the hot tub was mostly out of order. Why 2 stars? Read on. It's worth noting first that our unit felt out dated: * cracked laminate cabinet covers, low-end finishes; and * in need of a bunch of small repairs like fixing a broken blind, wobbly door knob and ceiling fan, mounting the dishwasher and a toilet, and unclog a bathroom drain. Not luxury as The Drexel claims, but livable for us. Our primary complaint relates to our unit flooding. Window/wall leaks soaked living room and bedroom carpets. We sent repair requests in writing and followed up in person... We got a wet vac and clean up ourselves to keep the space livable when the leak first happened. We continued to follow-up every time it rained and leaks occurred. We also reported what we believed to be black mold in vents... The Drexel never came to inspect or service our claims until we told them we were moving out early. We tried to break the lease amicably over the course of a month knowing our legal responsibilities under the lease (i.e. we owed money if they didn't re-rent the unit before our lease was up). The Drexel continued to escalate to the point where we needed lawyers involved. I could list a bunch of other reasons we're frustrated with The Drexel: stolen packages looted outside our bedroom window, refusing "trash valet" for a single extra box put outside by our elderly neighbor, dirty hallways, and leaks in common areas and other units... The Drexel may claim "bullshit" or staffing issues. We don't feel treated fairly. The Drexel stuck to the paperwork and didn't try to make anything right (not even removing $105 for cleaning and drip pans). read more

Gosh what a disappointing situation - came in, really liked the office manager, Melissa and Caleb in leasing. we felt the pressure to sign the lease quickly as the manager said they had only one unit. After considering this and some health issues, we called in less than 12 hours to cancel (I left at 6 pm and called the minute they opened at 10am) - willing to give up my $400 application fee - this group is fighting and telling me there is no cancellation of the lease - Just not a good way to do business, its just so disappointing, you think you are dealing with nice, reasonable people and they do this. I am sad to say i would not recommend the Drexel Oakley to others after this experience. read more

Run far away. The Drexel is my nemesis. My neighbors and I bonded over how we despised this place. Maintenance issues? Goodluck. You'll never see anything get fixed. They lie constantly and get mad when you put in multiple requests. After 3x contacting them to get something fixed, they said I was lying about submitting my requests and "this is the first we've heard of this" but then contradict themselves and blame the system for missing the request. Customer service? Comically bad. When you call they sound annoyed and answer the phone snappy and frustrated. Each call without fail they say "sorry, we are out on the property, we will call you right back." For my entire year there, NOBODY EVER called me back. NOT ONCE. Amenities? Disgusting. Gym bathroom never had toilet paper or soap and toilets were ALWAYS clogged. I once checked ever day for a week and it was never fixed. Trash/recycling overflowed and was never emptied. They locked/bungee corded the bins shut to prevent us from using them, but never offered an alternative place for it, BUT THEN FINED YOU if you didn't dispose of it properly. You were left with no options. Stairwells smelled from constant trash left in it. I have photos of MICE and trash in the stairwell on 3 separate occasions. Rotten bananas were there for 3 weeks. Pool water was nasty. Dog poop and pee in the elevators and in the hallways and sidewalks. Trash valet rarely came on the days they stated, even 2 weeks would go by and they would never come, despite the outrageous amount they charged for the "service." "Move-in special" is permanently attached to their sign, was told I would get it until lease signing day where they legit said to me "you don't get the special, people will pay the price." Took 2 months of constant calling to get my security deposit back. My life is stress-free now that I'm gone from that horrible place. read more

i wrote a pretty scathing review on here when we moved out of this place and was threatened by the management team to take it down. not a single word of it was a lie. all i'm going to say is that any organization that threatens former tenants into not sharing their negative experiences needs to do a little soul searching. here is a cleaned up and less angry version of what i had posted a year ago (i can admit when i write things in anger lol): our time here started innocently enough, we were excited to be moving out of an apartment that was literally falling apart around us and making us sick. the fact that there were outlets in the bathroom of this apartment had us elated with joy. the move in process was so great and everyone was really communicative throughout the whole thing. we felt really at ease. things took a turn when community "services" were introduced. the thing about services is that they are typically optional. the services at the drexel are NOT optional. a couple mandatory services you can expect to pay for are: $20 per month for trash valet service. you may only place one bag of trash outside your door. if you do more you will get charged literally $200 to your account. $130 for a cable, phone, and internet bundle package. we moved in and only had internet for $75 a month, but it didn't matter to them. they have worked out some deal, somewhere and it's not optional. you will have cable, phone, and internet whether you like it or not. the mail room is not secure. our packages were frequently stolen. they did nothing about this. the parking garage is not secure. my partner's car was broken into and items were stolen out of it. they did nothing about this. literally no facet of this place is secure, except maybe the actual door to your apartment. if i wanted to walk into the package room and take packages, i could because i know the code to get into the package room. (i'm not going to, don't worry, i'm just letting you know that any previous tenant can do this) -- i am really hoping that you all have a different system in place for this now. updated codes or key fobs, maybe? please consider this if you haven't already. also, get every single thing that ever happens with these people in writing. i gave notice of moving out in april of this year because they raised our rent over $300 per month. i spoke to the property manager melissa and we both agreed to end my lease 7 days early. it was beneficial to them and me so that i would not need to pay a prorated amount for 7 days into the month of july, and they could rent out the place to someone at the beginning of july. i signed a document stating this. as i left, melissa said to me, "just make sure you're moved out by june 30th!" so i did. my mistake here was not getting a copy of the document that i signed. due to an error of my own, i forgot to turn the auto-pay feature off my rent withdrawal. we did get charged for a whole month's rent and i worked with their third party resident billing services to sort out the issue. i requested a refund for the month of july since our lease ended june 30th as had been previously agreed in writing with their property manager. drexel received word of my refund request and sent me the weirdest sassy text (from someone who never identified themselves) about how moveouts work (as if i have not lived in 10+ apartments and even run some of them myself before) and told me that my lease ended on july 7th and that the refund would be issued but would be prorated for my lease ending on july 7th. i told them this was not true, but because i did not get a copy of what i signed, i did not really have a leg to stand on. we eventually got the refund but it was prorated. i am happy we have moved on and i hope the drexel finds ways to better help the community they are supposed to serve. read more

Our family had high hopes of making this place our home, but we only had disappointment from the first month we started living here. This place is the very opposite of luxury: dirty, noisy, where residents don't care about each other and management cares even less. The only expensive things are the utilities and rent (utilities around $300-400 a month not including electric, after our leasing agent said it would be around $120-180 - see utility bill attached) and rent $3150 or so for a 3 bed 2 bath. The common areas are always filthy, the elevator has trash in it more often than not and your upstairs neighbors' parties won't let you sleep. There were over 10 instances of a noise complaint (full on party with blasting music, people screaming profanities, starting at 3am into the morning), including calls to the police, and nothing was done. My bathroom had a leak with mold where I notified management in August, and it was "fixed" in November (and I say "fixed" quote unquote because all they did was paint over the mold). We had more than a few packages lost in the "package concierge" lockers, which management refused to retrieve, even after being instructed by the locker company to do so. Before signing a lease with this complex, I urge you to go to Yelp, Facebook groups for Oakley and Hyde park neighborhood (use the search function to find real opinions of this place) or look for "Tenants against Connor group" on Facebook to see what you are in for. read more

I lived here for two years and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. TL;DR If you're looking for a reasonably priced place in Cincinnati, this might be the worst apartment complex you can get for your money. The management is very unprofessional and its location is the only positive thing it has going for it. Save your money and avoid unnecessary stress by not living here. To start, calling an apartment luxury doesn't make it luxury. The cabinets are of poor quality, windows leak, handles break off, etc. Overall, the materials used to build the apartments are of poor quality. Also don't be fooled by a "move-in special". It's not a special if it's always there. It's bolted into the sign permanently and it's been like that for a minimum of two years. Next, the extra fees they charge you with on top of rent are absolutely absurd and are not "competitive" with other apartments in the area no matter what they tell you. Currently, there is a $130 cable and internet fee and then $70 trash and recycle fee. You are forced to pay these fees if you live in the apartment complex. Other complexes allow you to get much cheaper internet only packages with a provider separately. The Drexel does not. If you want cable too, it's still cheaper to go privately through the provider than the Drexel. They block you from that. As for the trash, nicer complexes in Cincinnati will pick up your trash twice as often for less than half the cost. Now the worst part of the complex by far: the predatory behavior of the management team. They care nothing about you and only about getting you to sign your money away to them. They will repeatedly call you at inopportune times trying to get you to resign and even after you give them your intent to vacate they will still call you and harass you trying to change your mind. If that's not enough, they'll show up at your apartment unannounced multiple times trying to get you to resign your lease if you say no the first time. It's all very unprofessional and feels like borderline harassment. They will gaslight you and manipulate you in any way imaginable to get you to sign a lease. I can't go into details of what they said to me as it was personal, but I urge you to live somewhere else. Management that behaves like that shouldn't be trusted. read more

I'm not usually the one to write reviews, especially bad ones, but I feel like people need to be warned. From the day I moved up here, The Drexel has done nothing but give me headaches. If you're considering moving here, I'd encourage you to think twice. As a matter of fact, RUN. I should have thought twice about picking up my keys when after driving for three days from Texas to Cincinnati I was met by the staff at Drexel with a form that prevented me from terminating my lease early. That typically wouldn't be a problem, however, I had no knowledge of needing to fill out such a form, and in fact, was told previously I had completed all of the necessary paperwork and was approved for move-in. Not to mention the fact that I'm a contractor and management knew that when I filled out my application. I'm not sure that I know of a more conning scheme than to have someone move across the country only to show up on the day of their scheduled move-in with movers, dogs, and a u-haul before forcing them to sign such a form or not receive their keys. That should be all of the information you need to make an educated decision about the type of place you're considering moving into. They care about one thing and one thing only; your money. Once they have that it's all downhill from there. If you're still not convinced, I'll gladly leave a list below of some of the things you can expect to look forward to when leasing at The Drexel. Don't say you weren't warned. 1) You can expect to wait 3-11 weeks for any sort of maintenance request. My bathroom sink was broken when I moved in and it took roughly 3 months to get someone out to fix it. I ruined several towels just to keep the water contained while I waited for maintenance. 2) The hallways are FILLED with bugs. Some living, some dead, and they are everywhere. It's disgusting, and for the money we're paying you'd think someone would be in charge of cleaning that once a quarter at the very least. Expect to see them in your apartment as well because there are cracks between the floor and the wall at least a half-inch thick. 3) The pet waste trashcans are always overflowing with waste bags. This is surprising because they never seem to replace the bags when they run out, so myself and other tenants just use our own. Some, however, revert to using anything they can (ie. grocery bags or ZIP-LOCK bags). But at least they're trying to clean up after their pets. 4) If you own pets, prepare to step in dog waste constantly. Likely because The Drexel doesn't replace pet waste bags when they're out (see #3). This is something I used to call or text management about, I kid you not, almost daily. Eventually, nothing was done about it and I realized I was only wasting my own time. In fact, one time I was told, "we'll get them out there in the next day or two." They didn't. But in any case, why something seemingly so simple would take so long is beyond me. If you're still reading, let me conclude by saying that I've lived in 4 apartments, none of which were this expensive and this has easily been the worst one yet. Don't be fooled by the price tag or their advertising signs out front - If you're looking for "luxury living," this is NOT the place. read more

Would give 0 stars if I could. Issues with The Drexel: 1) you will be nickel'd and dime'd to death. The force you to pay for cable, for trash pickup outside your apartment (only 1 bag/pickup, so families of 2+, good luck!), and you also pay outrageous prices for trash/recycling. We've moved to a house that is quite larger than our apartment, and we pay less on all of our utilities in our *house* than we did at the Drexel. 2) the facilities are disgusting. Sure, the apartments are (fake) luxury (slapped together very cheaply). But the grounds/hallways are nasty. Dog pee/poop constantly in the hallways, elevators, etc. Dog poop cans are never emptied. 3) The place is in awful shape. Maintenance does the best they can, but they are overworked for what is a falling-apart complex. To be specific, these are all the issues we had at move-in: - water leaked out the back of one of our toilets, maintenance NEVER fixed it. Eventually my father-in-law fixed it. - the dryer wouldn't turn on and it took them weeks to get a part in, meaning we used a laundromat in the meantime. - Oven was extremely dirty upon move-in and was never cleaned, even after we told management about it - did not receive mail keys until after a week of living there - our bedroom fan did not function - garbage disposal was not working for the first week - smoke detector in the main bedroom chirped, and we couldn't reset it, and it wasn't fixed for days meaning we didn't sleep for days - towel rack was not screwed into the drywall with anchors and came right off the wall - our closet collapsed storage system collapsed after hanging just a few items; again, screwed into drywall with no anchors - half (yes, literally half, we counted) of our electrical sockets did not work. This is all JUST from move-in. Believe me, we had 10+ other problems in our 9 months of living there, including the dead bolt lock on our door breaking, not allowing us to EXIT OUR APARTMENT. Maintenance had to come through our window to get us out. And, our washer broke mid-cycle and our clothes were sopping wet, and we had to go to a laundromat at 10pm to re-wash them. Moving out was the happiest day of our lives. There are so many other issues I could list, but this should be enough to scare you away. You're better off in a small apartment building run by someone local. read more

The Drexel at Oakley is the worst apartment I have ever lived in. We lived there from June 21 - December 21. We were sold on a luxury apartment and this was everything but luxury. Day 1 we had issues and they continued the whole time we lived there. Customer service was as bad as it gets. We called and even sent in writing the issues that existed with our unit and lease. We were promised repairs would be done. We were even promised that repairs were completed, yet I had camera footage to show that nobody showed up those days. Maintenance no call no showed multiple times when I had to take off work to be there. It was embarrassing to think that this company who sells luxury apartments, couldn't even handle basic maintenance problems. These shouldn't have even occurred had someone checked the unit before giving us the keys. They don't take care of their land like they should as a landlord and their obligations. Overgrown grass, pet waste cans went 4 weeks without being changed over multiple summer months. It was disgusting and the excuse was they didn't have time to properly attend to upkeep of the property exterior. I filed a complaint with the health department and it was conveniently "taken care of" within 48 hours of their visit. There was dead animals on their walking path that never got removed. The reason it "vanished" is because maggots and insects ate the animals down to nothing... DISGUSTING. The gate to the parking garage was broken for over 3 months of us living there. Management did nothing to fix this until I complained that our lease states we pay for secure parking. The excuse was they did not get around to it. Yet, a day later it was "fixed". That lasted 1 week and then the gate continued to have issues. It was embarrassing to say the least. It was also sad that you could just drive in and out of the parking garage with no secure gate and management didn't care. They don't take care of maintenance on their facility as a whole. There were many areas where there were exposed wires which is against building code. It took a building inspector issuing a citation for them to actually do something about the issue. Not the fact that there was an electrical hazard for their residents... just that they got a citation. We paid for valet trash service twice a week. Many times, trash was never picked up and sat outside our door a whole week until someone showed up to pick it up. I would call to notify management of this and it was never addressed. Management would be sure they sent a letter to all its residents stating the rules of valet trash but couldn't even do the process right. We no longer had pets in our apartment for multiple months and yet they would not remove the monthly pet fee from our lease so that they could continue to collect all the money they could from us. We also no longer had vehicles to park in the garage for multiple months and they would not take that off of our lease so they could just collect all they could. They tried to tell me that it stated in our lease it can't be removed yet that was a lie. They don't care about the residents and it's clear by what they force you to sign onto in a lease. Corporate management got involved in the issues we had and did not care to help solve the issue. Rather, they sent out their corporate lawyers and threatened to sue me for sending in a lease termination letter because we have rights and exercised our right to terminate the lease because repairs were not made within 30 days (landlords obligation). The only reason we did not fight back is because it would have cost us more in court than our remaining lease was worth. If there was anything good about this apartment complex... it was convenient for having Hyde Park plaza next door, our unit had laundry and that they got new maintenance staff at the end of our lease who had some knowledge compared to who was there during the bulk of our lease. The front office staff also changed and I hope... I hope that made a difference. I would never recommend this apartment complex to anyone. read more

Recently changed ownership, old ownership wasn't great but new ownership is incredibly annoying and wont leave tenants alone. I have spoken to multiple other tenants and all have similar complaints of new ownership. Apartments are nice, overall a little costly but I do like my one bedroom apartment. Ownership is also repainting the exterior of the buildings to weird new colors. read more

honestly don't move here it's a trap small living space have to pay for everything like a house it is not secured gate stays open people in the neighborhood walk through the complex and the staffing does not care they try to follow the paperwork so much they disregard the tenets comfortably it's sad and packages get stolen no cameras it was a trap they over a lot of stuff but don't live up to it at all all i can say is you got a plaza across the street but yea no tear this place down !!!!!!!! and they claim to have cameras but cant find look at them to find stolen packages or stolen items like imagine a crime happens to you but they cant look at any cameras to help you out and they break into cars over here and nobody seems to find the urgency to fix the problems which is failed security remember they would never live here its a money trap read more

Over priced . Buildings are old and problematic. Service Requests are not completed timely. Security gates are hit and miss, mail area is trashy. Elevator doesn't work frequently. Look beyond the lobby look at the stairwells and corridors that lead to your apartment they are dirty. This place needs a good over haul! read more

I wish I had nice things to say about this place after living there for a year but unfortunately I don't after the way they have treated me as a tenant. The place is not very well kept up as they would like you to believe, the maintenance staff is CONSTANTLY BUSY fixing all the problems in this place from leaking water in rooms when it rains or from the showers not working properly, to busted pipes when it gets cold, to AC units that don't work when it's hot because they don't want you to run them under 62 degrees, to black mold in most of the showers & window sills, and many other issues that are "popping up". I certainly feel sorry for the maintenance staff because they are always having to fix emergencies or at least that's what the front office staff calls it. I think whenever they originally built this place they must have cut a lot of costs going with the cheaper options for these buildings, because they are always having to fix things now. I was a tenant who put in two separate requests for fixing the hot water in my shower since the hottest temperature was lukewarm & a request to fix the AC unit that wasn't cooling the unit at all. They dragged their feet on fixing the shower, which almost took 2 months of back & forth, coming & going from maintenance before the problem got somewhat fixed. Then when it came to fixing the AC unit they continued to tell me that since the weather wasn't over 70 degrees outside that it was not a "priority for them because they told me I could just open a window & they would get to it in a week". Mind you they are charging most people that live here, including myself over $2000 a month & they are so busy that they can't fix an AC unit or shower because it's not a priority?!? This place is a complete joke & the staff that works in the leasing office are more concerned about nickel & diming people for anything they can to make money off them then they are about actually taking care of the complex & the tenants that spend a lot of money to live here. I would never recommend this place to anyone & after talking to a few different people who also live here, would highly recommend getting someone from the health department to shut this place down or at the very least inspect it to see all the various health violations & safety concerns that they can find. This place is not worth the cost of rent & if they try to sucker you into paying a discounted price to move in, RUN! They are going to raise your rent the next year & will hound & bully you into signing another lease before yours is up. When I say hunt you down to get you to renew your lease. I literally mean it in every sense of the word. This includes the office staff constantly stopping by unannounced at your door various times during the day to try & get you when they know you're there, to following you up in their little golf carts when they see you drive into the parking complex to corner you into renewing or even taking your mail & holding it in the front office just so you have to go up & talk to get it. They are more worried about getting you to renew your lease then they are about giving you a reason to stay here. This place is not somewhere you want to live & for what you have to pay, it's definitely not worth living here. read more

looking for an apartment complex that robs you blind, requires threat of legal action to fulfill basic maintenance requests, & is one strong gust of wind away from completely collapsing? look no further than the drexel at oakley!! here, tenants are treated just like the garbage left out for the valet trash--often ignored and left to rot for extended periods of time :) if you're planning to move here, go ahead & mark a back-up date in the calendar -- just in case they call 2 hours before the scheduled move-in time to inform you the apartment isn't ready (hope you didn't want that moving company security deposit back)!! but don't worry, being forced to reschedule the move & subsequently going 2 weeks without furniture (after you've finally been given the keys) is a super great opportunity to really take in the property in its aù-natural glory. you'll have the pleasure of acquainting yourself with the complete lack of promised renovations, uncleaned carpets, walls that haven't been painted since 2002, and several broken appliances. who WOULDN'T want an improperly mounted dishwasher and fan that threatens to rip itself from the clutches of the ceiling every time it's turned on?? forget about cold water in the kitchen sink & lighting fixtures that actually work; that's entirely overrated. what you REALLY need is a stove with only 2 working burners, a refrigerator that doesn't keep things cold, a freezer with an ice maker that doesn't actually make ice, a dryer that casually sets things on fire (despite cleaning the lint traps after every use), heavy kitchen drawers that fall out every time you use them & take 2 people to realign, blinds that detach when you try to close them, inconsistent temperature control throughout the entire apartment, a mailbox that's rusted shut, a balcony door that won't fully shut OR lock, a front door handle that sporadically falls off, and a bathroom sink that is actively leaking water (but doesn't qualify as a "maintenance emergency" & will take 2 weeks to fix). welcome to your luxury apartment!!!! :) the location truly can't be beat--living across from a strip mall & mcdonald's is apparently the cincinnati-equivalent of living at a beach front property! there are definitely no nearby apartments with significantly cheaper rent & nicer amenities / overall complexes. that's what makes the drexel so unique!! sure, you're paying an abysmal amount of money per month (+ non-disclosed mandatory services and fees), but at least you can walk to panera & starbucks!!! the drexel is also extremely conscious of your health: they want to boost your immune system and make sure it's in tip top shape!! to help out, they've made sure there is mold growing throughout the entire apartment. you'll feel extra clean showering amongst the mold spores!! however, they're very modest & refuse to take credit for this; in fact, they will disregard any and all attempts you make to draw attention to it, stating it's just some "harmless bacteria." hope you have good health insurance so you can treat the "harmless bacteria" poisoning!! one of the best parts about living at the drexel: it's like christmas every day!! at move-in, you'll be gifted a universal code to the package room, where boxes are strewn throughout, completely unguarded and free for the taking! why spend hundreds of dollars furnishing your new apartment when you can simply saunter into the package room and get first dibs on all yet-to-be-claimed items?! finders keepers!! the package room isn't the only securely unsecured amenity! the gate that guards the parking garage is open to all!! no need to register your car & pay that silly $216 a month when you can take advantage of the frequently broken gate or easily tailgate inside :) and speaking of unwanted guests in the amenities--before using the pool, it doesn't hurt to do a quick skim for any critters that have met their maker in the midst of an afternoon dip. while i'm sure they would have rather perished in the hot tub, it sadly hasn't been functioning since it was initially dug 20 years ago. if the outdoor activities aren't really your style, there's also a fitness center kept at a balmy 80° featuring brand new equipment from 2011. you're sure to work up a sweat one way or another! :) all in all, there is no place i would have rather dumped my money into for the past year (except, perhaps, an active volcano). amongst the luxury apartments in cincinnati, there is no comparison. i was left truly astounded by my time at the drexel, and i will be sharing my experience with anyone who inquires for many, many years to come :) read more

Literally the worst property management staff I've ever had the unfortunate opportunity to be bled and sucked dry by for my cold, hard-earned cash. They will sporadically decide to charge you with new hidden fees for wildly outrageous prices, and then fine you if you don't comply, and continue to charge you regardless of whether you're using (insert whatever new service they've decided to crave you for) or not. Look at the rent they list -- now add about 600-1200 dollars more to that -- and you could expect to pay that for your first year or two living here. The location is convenient but the property staff seem to think it's beach front property. The management here are the kind of people who will charge you $1400 to replace their carpet for minor damages, and then turn around and rip it up and replace it with wood floors and turn the unit around for about $1000 more than what you originally rented for it. Don't ever try to negotiate leaving your lease during move out a bit early. The staff will hound you asking you to please hurry and move because someone is waiting, ask you to leave earlier, and then turn around and charge you for the next month entirely even if you're only there for less than a week -- and even if you left before that month because you wanted to be nice and give them time to get it ready for the next person.
