My partner and I went up there with the intention of doing a "decent" walk and that we did. Arriving at The Gantry, a picnic area and start/finish point for several walks, we took the Somerset trail, a 13km loop passing a lookout point for views of the Somerset and Wivenhoe Dams. The views were beautiful, but walking amongst all the tall old trees swaying in the wind was just as good. The website says to allow 4 hours and this was pretty accurate. We were walking quite briskly and didn't stop to eat, so we managed it in three and a half hours. This walk was a "Level 4" with some steep, gravelly inclines and declines. Less fit or less adventurous walkers could try one of the lower level walks. Next time I'd like to check out the water falls. Getting out of Brisbane and up to Mt Mee, be sure to take the route that passes through Dayboro. There are some beautiful stretches of road where you can see all the way out to the ocean. If looking for somewhere to eat on the way home, Dayboro Bakery does a mean pie and the town itself is really cute. A great day trip from Brisbane.

There are two walking tracks, around 850m long, so a decent trek but manageable for most people. The area is usually really quiet, with only a few fisherman to keep you company. The track itself is a great walk. Surprisingly, there is a boardwalk for a section of the way. Some of the track winds around Tingalpa Creek, which is surprisingly wide and long for a creek. The trees block out the road noise and the peace and quiet means you can hear a whole range of birds and local wildlife on your walk. The area is fairly popular with fisherman, especially on the weekend. The section of the track that is closet to Rickertt Road has a jetty, type platform structure for fishing off plus there are a few wooden carved picnic tables under a shaded area. Perfect for a quiet afternoon on the weekend.

I'm addicted to White Rock. Well, it's only been two days in a row but I'm itching to go back again…read moretomorrow. I chose WR to hike because I have a few friends that have come and speak highly of it. My expectations were surpassed! At the moment, there is construction at the end of School Road, don't miss the small cardboard sign saying "white rock" at the first exit in the round a bout. This is one of the most beautiful parks I've ever been to. I have so far done the 6 mile creek track, it's a pretty easy track but the most challenging part is the large stairs leading up to white rock, but you HAVE to do it. The first day, I didn't actually go to the top of the rock but today I did. I was blown away by the beauty. You are literally on top of the world. I've gone around 8am both days and have seen absolutely no other hikers each time except on my way back (around 930/10am). I would recommend this beautiful place to anyone!

The course is "rumored" to contain sharks in the lake besides the river. This in fact is true. The sharks apparently got trapped during the 2011 flooding when lake became part of the river. So don't go in to retrieved your golf ball. Overall the course was in good shape after the rain but require proper draining facility for sand bunkers so it doesn't flood. The course is moderately challenging and I would like to play my redemption round soon after scoring 13 over par when my hc is 6.

Also the holes "the actual one" on the green needed better workmanship to be done. Prune the edges please. I hoped that cart girl made more rounds selling drinks and food. As she only appeared once. Afterwards retreating to the bar next to the club house makes it convenient to get food and beverage to boast and downplay about your round.

I haven't been golfing in a while, and that's no mistake. However, I was dragged along to St Lucia…read moreLinks yesterday and found it a surprisingly upbeat experience. Along with my two golfing companions (who are much better than I am; one boasts a handicap of 8) we trudged along St Lucia's tight fairways. Importantly, the fairways are extremely well-kept. The tightness of the fairways however means the courses are harder than some other Brisbane golf links (for example, Victoria Park Golf Course). After the first few holes and two thrown golf clubs later, I retired to the golf buggy and watched my companions play instead. It gave me ample time to absorb the entire links. The courses really are beautiful, snaking around the Brisbane river. The close location to the University of Queensland means St Lucia Golf is visited by pro-golfers and students alike. I would expect most of the students here have more change in their wallets than average, however, as we all know golfing is not cheap. However, it's no more expensive here than at Brisbane's other links. St Lucia Golf also boasts a very flashy clubhouse, which reminded me of a bar/restaurant in terms of dining facilities. Though the Link's website is clear on opening and closing hours regarding the clubhouse, actual play time seemed to be informally designated as from dawn to dusk.

No surprise given this local sports field boasts a clubhouse, spectator stand, scoreboard, three rugby fields, a genuine cricket pitch and nets. If you live in the area it's well worth a trip down on any game day to enjoy the atmosphere and socialise with the locals. What I happen to love about these ground is the picturesque scenery on offer. The grass is always a deep shade of green and the creek that wraps around its borders provides some nice foliage. The surrounding mountains are a sight to behold as they provide a nice bit of shade in the afternoons and bring a chill to the place the moment the sun is down. So if you feel like a walk around Ashgrove at any time of day it might be an idea to take the pedestrian path around these impressive grounds.

The Great Court at the University of Queensland was little more than sandstone buildings encompassing what was pretty much an expanse of sand, hardly anything impressive. However, now that the rains have brought it back to life this green expanse within the sandstone walls is nothing but beautiful. It is the perfect park to relax, read and just soak up university atmosphere. Often filled with students lazing between classes, studying, reading, having a nap or eating lunch, this court is almost never not in use. It is also well lit at night for safety. I often go here just to eat lunch, happily watch the countless crows, or gaze at all the varied carvings on the sandstone. It really is a little bit of beauty in the middle of UQ, no wonder it is iconic and much loved and populated space of the university.
