The fully fenced enclosure is huge, with heaps of room for the dogs to run and play, trees to pee on and props to do tricks on. If they've ever had enough of that, there are great walks through the nearby bush, mangroves, or along the foreshore. We love it.

She could tell you which park is suitable for different age group, which park has the cleanest BBQ areas or has the most shade or has easy parking or has the best slides. It's a real eye opener tagging along and watching how kids interact with the playground. Whoever designed the Hamilton playground has thought of everything. There are three different designated play areas. One area is clearly for toddlers because the steps are low enough for them to climb up and there are simple slides and seesaws low to the ground. There's an adventure style playground for the older kids (and short adults like me!) with a climbing net and flying foxes. What I was most impressed with was the miniature road set. My nephew was worried that it was a 'real road' and pronounced in a sing song voice that I should get off the road. Once I explained it was a 'pretend road', he happily raced around the track on a pretend motorbike breaking all the road rules but at least giving way to pedestrians. There's an off-leash dog area attached to the park. This looks like gambolling doggy fun with an obstacle course for the bigger dogs. And when you're tired of running around, pop across the road to Portside for a coffee and cake.

It's not a particularly attractive beach, but it's fine for dogs. I went there with my friend's two very energetic cattle dogs on a day when it had previously been raining and they loved the huge puddles. There are ramps and tunnels for those dogs/owners who are interested, a shelter with a picnic table and a number of park benches. Depending on where you live, the Nudgee off-leash dog park is a little far out, but it makes for a good outing, particularly with the beach there.

There's also an off leash dog park with a shaded table & chairs for owners and a few little 'trick' installations for more flexible puppies. Unfortunately my dog is rather small but believes she's rather big so we tend to avoid it as I never know when she'll bark at a rottweiler for taking her ball. The Newmarket Olympic Pool is on the edge of the park, so it's a great family area all round.

It also has some grassed areas, and is bordered by natural bushland. It is on the crest of a hill, so there are some great views of the city.
