The grassy areas are perfect for picnics and the Historical Cemetery is really beautiful and serene. There's a good-sized playground for the kids, and the park is dog friendly. There's even a dog off-leash area and dog training area. The dog training area is really fantastic and something I've never seen in a park before. There are tunnels for dogs to run through, ramps and platforms for them to jump and run up, obstacles and poles to jump over and run around. It's such a great idea. And no doggy park is complete without bins and plastic bags especially for your dog poop. The park is really well groomed and maintained, and there are signs around for regular Working Bees to upkeep of the park and grounds.

The park includes a running track and facilities for long jump, hurdles, shot-put and other athletic activities. There is also a small playground, BBQs and toilets open from 6am-7pm. Dogs are allowed in the park, but should remain on a leash. However, it is very common to see people bring their dogs here and take them off a leash if they are trained.

However it now goes by the name A.R.C. Hill Park. The main entrance is along Goss Road in Virginia/Wavell Heights. The park has a decent children's playground, and a circuit of exercise equipment. There are also BBQs, tables and shelters, bins and toilets available for public use. The park includes a large field with goal posts, a cricket pitch and a basketball ring. It's on the river, with a little sandy shore, so you can fish; there are quite a few picnic tables and barbecues (but get in early on weekends); there are wide open spaces for kicking a ball around and lots of shady trees to spread a picnic rug beneath. The funnest part, however is the kid's playground. The Octopus Garden has lots wood and rope climbing areas, big sandpit, water play features, giant colourful fish and octopus play areas and a flying fox. For kids and kids at heart, this place has a lovely vibe, with a backdrop of the river and the Gateway Bridge in the distance, Brisbane City Council's done a really good job here. Check it out.
