The food was awful and the actors were terrible. Don't waste your money. The only thing that was good, was the service.

Fifty-five bucks for dinner and a show. Not bad at all…read more When you walk into Bravo on Saturday night, keep on walking (more or less parallel to the bar), until you see the staircase up to the second floor. You will emerge into a big private dining room which doubles as the home of The Murder on Us Dinner theater. They rotate a series of different plays, and tonight, as we hit the top of the stairs, we were greeted by the perplexing sight of a coffin ! We started off with a cocktail hour, and about half way through our drinks, we heard the sound of a wailing banshee. The mourners had arrived ! We met four members of the O'Sullivan clan, and Mary Margaret who were all on hand for our play -Murder at the Irish Wake. They mingled with us in character for a half hour before we were seated, and that was a lot of fun. Scenes of the play were interwoven through the various courses of dinner - soup, salad, your choice of four pre-selected entrees (Sirloin, Salmon, Chicken, or Rigatoni, all with mashed potatoes and a medley of vegetables), a terrific loaf of fresh French bread, and a slice of chocolate cake. The play involved the mid-wake death of one of the mourners, and we had to figure out who the murderer was, how the dastardly deed was accomplished, and what the motive was. It wasn't fine dining, and it wasn't Al Pacino or Meryl Streep, but we sure had a very fun time!

The performance starts upon arrival with lively greetings. The venue allowed for the event to take place on the second floor which we had all to ourselves. The venue was a great place for a murder mystery as after dinner we were allowed to wander in specific areas to continue searching for 'clues.' We definitely liked that the characters were interactive and polite plus kept their role at all times! A few things we would have liked to see differently: 1. There were too many tables (we were Table #1 and way too close to the bar) 2. When we were done eating only half the people had made their way up to the food- left for lagging time 3. The food was not wonderful (see Bull mansion review) 4. 1 tray of dessert for ALL those people?! WEAK. 5. We thought they could have utilized their time a little better (like too much down time wondering when is this going to start up or pick up?) We had fun, enjoyed their humor even making jokes very relevant to current time. If you are thinking about taking a child 12-17 you might want to re-think it since there is adult humor included! They allow 12+ in but really leave the kids at home and have a night out! Heads up- there are prizes so put your best detective skills to play! Overall the cast did a nice job.

It's meant to be a good time and it is. The food was fine. I thought the actors were great. We only had issues with scanning the QR code for the clues. Probably an internet/wifi issue but they will give you the clues on paper if necessary. I would recommend and we will probably do it again with friends/family!!

That being said, a lot of how the event ran seemed confusing and poorly thought out. Do not read on if you don't want spoilers. ** spoilers ** This is a dinner theater mystery show. I had never been to one, and assumed we would be watching costumed performers while eating and enjoying drinks. This was very different. Actors were not costumed, and as attendees, people were forced to participate in the show and also interact with other guests, which I personally did not like at all, especially without prior warning. After checking in at a table set up in a lobby area, we were seated at a table at a long somewhat narrow conference room with nothing except hotel banquet tables - no decorations or signage. The MC came in and, yelling loudly, went over some information on how the show would work, which I found not quite clear. There was no mention of how the room would work - where were restrooms, when could we stand, when could we leave the room, if/when we could leave the room to get more drinks (there was no individual service at the table, only people dropping off the food that is part of the package), how the timing of the food service would interact with the show, etc. A double sided sheet with a mini-golf style pencil is supplied for one to take notes - but it's almost impossible to write on paper on top of a tablecloth with the pencil. And they almost immediately tell you to stand up and 'interrogate' other people. If I realized there were actors in the audience, it might have made more sense. They gave perhaps 10 minutes to talk to other guests, and given the lack of space in the room and the timing, it was enough to talk to maybe 4-5 people, but there were 50-60 guests, so there is no way you could realistically count on matching up with the actors. Also, you don't know what info you are really looking for, so you waste most of the space with useless notes, not realizing that later the MCs would provide several sets of clues which are really what you need paper to take notes on. Clipboards would have made writing notes sooo much easier. As well as more note space, instead of wasting paper with survey questions. I found the rest of the show very confusing and poorly staged, especially in not being coordinated with the food service, or even having intermissions where people could run out to the bar (a table in the lobby area set up next to the registration table). I did not really appreciate some of the yelling that took place by the actors. And too many things did not make sense (why did we have to write fake persona names on our name tags instead of first name/last initail?) I really disliked this show and had I not been with other friends, would possibly have walked out. BTW when you read reviews, please know they bribe guests with a shot glass if they leave a good review and show it to the hosts before you leave.

Glad I didn't base my decision to get a Groupon for the Murder Mystery Dinner from the previous…read morereviews. Yikes! (TLDR: Come here for the fun, not the food.) Overall this was more like a 3.5 experience, but I rounded up since for the discounted voucher price I definitely think it was worth it for something fun to do on a Friday/Saturday night. The only thing I'd suggest is to come here with friends unless you want to end up in a large ballroom table for 12 with strangers. I went during a themed night so it was "Totally 80s" and guests were encouraged to dress the part. Suitably most of the demographic when I went was 35+. I'm thinking that if you want to be one of the "randomly" selected participants you have a higher chance if you're dressed up. We parked and checked in at the front entrance of the Sons of Italy venue and the company reserved the large Bella ballroom, which looks like it could be used for a wedding. I did not expect that there would be so many people, probably 150+! We were assigned to a table and escorted by one of the cast members. They have a cash bar with typical prices, I'm surprised they couldn't make me a Mai Tai though... The salad was already set for each spot so we started eating. From the napkins it looks like Fosanos Catering provided the food for the gig. I am hoping that you did not come here mainly for the food, because it's probably on par with a school cafeteria along with servers to ensure portion control. When we registered they gave us each a raffle voucher so they could make sure people were not getting second helpings of dinner, but that didn't stop some of the people from our table. They offered the typical dinner roll, chicken, pasta, meat balls, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans with what looked like canned cranberry sauce. On the side they also had a large sheet cake that was cut into pieces and some cookies. At each of the tables one of the Hosts picked someone to be a "Character/Suspect" for part of the murder mystery. We had a binder on our table that gave us information about the events and our characters motives. In this case we were at a Rock Concert and the person who had been killed was the Agent of the Rockstar during a soundcheck. There were various shady suspects such as ex-lovers, groupies an 8 year old girl, a doctor yada yada. The cast members were about 4 of them and I believe the rest of the 15 or so were all (lucky) participants chosen to be actors. The cast members set the scene and gave us hints along the way before breaking during 2 periods where we interviewed all of the suspects to extract clues to help us solve the murder. As a table we worked together and used the fake "Bribe $" with some suggestions for questions we could ask the suspects to get some additional clues. I felt bad for this poor table that got dragged on stage and had to perform to a song randomly with one of the actors. (Maybe that was the VIP circle hah!) Now the scenario and the clues weren't that tricky and they made sure to preface it was only one person. At the very end our table got everything correct including the murder and how s/he did it but we got no credit! -1 for no recognition when they went around giving out these novelty certificates to "The Best Actor", "Worst Answer", "Best Answer" etc... Oh well!

It both felt safe, as security searched my purse, and I noticed actual police presence, while being highly efficient. At intermission, I was impressed by how efficiently the women's bathroom line moved, particularly as we were seeing a female-audience heavy show (Suffs). They had staff directing traffic upstairs and separate lines to people moving. We were seated in row PP, so I'd actually recommend splurging for the better seats, because this is a theater where it matters to your show experience if you're closer. You'll see better and feel more immersed in the show. Actors and show quality were very impressive and I don't recall seeing as many venue staff in Boston theaters as they had here. After this experience, I'd prefer to go into Providence for theater moving forward to going into Boston.
