Very helpful, kind and friendly help. I appreciate the owner's patience and valuable advice.

So accomodating, friendly and professional. A real diamond guy to inspect, reset or do with a diamond person. Its not a mega showroom like Zales. We called, went through 2 secured doors and were greeted by 2 wonderful ladies. We were curious about a jewelry item and the gentleman answered our question. Glad we stopped by. read more

The Diamond Specialists - Real or not, they know! - Jewelry Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Russell is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to educate on the 4 C's so you know that to look for in a diamond. In that area I am pleased but when it came to my setting he just gave us a book and said which setting do you want? Didn't help what so ever and so we just went with the basic one that he grabs the diamond with to show it in your finger because from a picture we don't know nor did he tell us that with the band he was ordering would not fit a flat wedding band. And it would not fit flush against it so now we either have to get a whole new setting for $800-$1500 and wasted $800 already on the setting it's in now and also had to pay extra for a basket due to the cushion cut. I don't care for the wedding bands with the curves but that's really the only choice I have unless we change the whole setting or notch the prong in which I would be sacred of the stability after that. I also don't like how the band is a knife angle. Overall really disappointed in the setting, I wish we just bought the diamond from him and went else where to get the setting. read more

Since my last review, I've visited TDS on numerous occasions, all for one thing - ring cleaning! Sunscreen, sand, doggy shampoo, car wax, you name it - my ring has been exposed to it! My rings take a beating, which necessitates visits to TDS at least twice a year for a professional cleaning and polishing. Since we purchased my rings from them, the cleanings are always complimentary. Russ, Jeanie, and staff are always pleasant to chat with and provide excellent customer service each time I visit them. read more

When it comes to a man proposing to his girl it is one of the most special moments and it may take quite a bit of preparation. If you're a romantic, spontaneous, or just over the top, purchasing that ring can be a little nerve wrecking. Well at least that's what it was like for my husband. When my husband and I started to talk about marriage I had the idea of what I wanted: how big it should be, how sparkling, what type of metal.... But at the end of it all I knew I loved him and I trusted his style. I also knew he wanted the best! We have been to many different places to look at rings. Mainly the infamous T&Co at different locations. None gave us the time or the service we were looking for. I mean, c'mon you're spending thousands of dollars here!!! We met Russell at a wedding expo and when my husband started talking to him, he was set on checking the Diamond Specialists out. We live on the other side of the island, but because of the outstanding service, he trekked it there. My husband would also sneak his way there after dropping me off to class. The day of our proposal came and when my soon-to-be fiancé brought out the ring on the top of Diamond Head I was in awe!!! The shine was amazing and it was just gorgeous!!! The color, clarity, everything, was much more than I had dreamt of!! Great job honey and THANK YOU Russell!! Russell was so patient as my husband who asked a million questions and took care while making his final decision. He doesn't push you into anything and he has the best interest of the client in mind. After the ring purchase, the service didn't end there. He continues to service us and ensures that the ring sparkles like the first time I saw it. He cleans and checks the prongs of my band and engagement ring and does this for free! You'll be surprised at the luxury places that will charge you for this service!!! To us Russell and his team gave us top notch service and continues to do so and we trust him with all of our diamond needs!!! read more

These guys are absolutely the best. They almost over-educate you about how to get the best looking diamond! There is so much to learn! To put it simply - they have the best prices in the State. Russell shows you everything. He will keep you out of trouble. They are friendly, honest, reliable and great to work with. And they produce incredible pieces of jewelry. THE DIAMOND SPECIALISTS, INC. are moving their office! They work by appointment at this time but I would suggest giving them a call before dropping by. read more

Overall: great small business to buy your symbols of love Parking: Kahala mall parking Tip: browse around the Internet to see what style of ring you like My husband bought my engagement ring and our wedding bands from here, and I love them! We were able to trade in my original engagement band (that he bought from them) for a customized band that they made based off of a few pictures I sent them. They showed us a 3D model of the engagement ring and a wax model of the ring before they made it so that we could make sure it was just right! For our wedding bands they worked with us to make sure we got the engravings and style just right before the big day. All along the way, they were great at answering our questions and providing tips about the rings (e.g. cleaning, matetials). They even cleaned my engagement ring for free! Enjoy! read more

This is probably the only jeweler I trust and do business in Hawaii. I first met Russell and his staff at a wedding expo a long long time ago. I bought several different jewelry for gifts, sold some jewelry, and custom made jewelry as well here. Russell educates you about jewelry especially diamonds. He doesn't try to push you into buying things or rushes you. He gives you an excellent service and explains to you thoroughly. I bring my ring here for cleaning once in a blue moon and he doesn't charge a fee which I don't feel it's right. It's a business after all. This place is located outside of Kahala Mall near the stairs or elevator Ewa side. read more

We met Russell back in '06 at one of the Bridal expos. He was very pleasant to do business with, not pushy and took time to educate us on diamonds. He can make custom designs to fit anyone's needs. Once you decide what kind of diamond/stone you want and budget, he gave us a list of diamonds slightly above and below our range so we could decide. When you get your diamond he also gives you the diamond rating which is important to have. Then we worked on the setting, the material/metal wanted and design of it. He had a wax mold made up so we could see how the ring would look like before committing to it with no pressure of buying and chance to change the design. He offers FREE cleanings and encourages you to come back regularly for cleaning. They are a local company run by local people, so they will treat you right. Sitting in the store you see a wall of pictures of previous satisfied customers. Whenever I am asked where to buy jewelry, I always refer them to Russell and staff. They also buy jewelry although I have not sold any. Their prices on gold are competitive and heard of a person getting $400 more than what another well advertised store had offered for the same items. BTW, right now there is a Yelp deal, $50 for $100. read more

Russell and his team at The Diamond Specialists are amazing. When my husband first proposed, he knew I am very particular about what I wanted for my engagement ring, so he initially proposed with a charm and told me that we would shop for the ring together. He did some research before hand to get an idea of what we really were looking for and to figure out how much it would really cost. Let's just say, some of the prices were a major wake-up call. We went shopping everywhere, from jewelry stores in Ala Moana to Pearlridge. There was nothing that truly 'stood out' and made us feel that we had to buy that ring. We even encountered some sales associates at other jewelry stores that snobbed us when we mentioned our budget. When we talked to other married or engaged friends, they pretty much referred us to one guy - Russell of The Diamond Specialists. So, we went in to see Russell. When you go to Russell, make sure to set an appointment. The appointment is about one hour, but it is worth the time that you spend with Russell because he will educate you on the 4 C's of diamonds, the importance of the shape of the diamond, and how all of these aspects affect the price. He will guide you to finding the right diamond for you that will also fit your budget. What we loved about Russell was that he truly cares about the customer's satisfaction and that he wants to educate people before they make a purchase. Once you pass his short seminar on diamonds, he will ask what diamond you would like to look at. Based on what you tell him, he provides a list of available diamonds and their prices. Russell really worked with our budget and I was ecstatic because we found a beautiful diamond that we could afford. Then, we had to find a setting for the diamond. We told Russell what we were looking for and he was able to create a custom setting. It took maybe less than 1 month to get the ring, but it is GORGEOUS! I have received sooo many compliments on the uniqueness and beauty of the ring. My husband and I were so happy with the service that we decided to get our wedding bands from Russell as well. He was able to create a custom setting for my wedding band to match the engagement ring. They look beautiful together. I was even more happy when I was able to get my rings polished before the wedding ceremony for free. We are so happy that we went to Russell. I wouldn't trust anyone else with such an important purchase. read more

When my now-husband and I started looking for rings over a year ago, we knew we wanted higher quality than the average mall store, and something that felt really personal to us (well...me lol). We had checked out the selection at the wedding ring shop, as we knew other people who had been happy with their purchases there, but nothing was quite right. An acquaintance showed my then-boyfriend her beautiful ring, and told him her husband had gotten it custom-made at the Diamond Specialists, and that the service there was unbeatable. We decided to check it out, and I'm so glad we did. Russell was kind and knowledgeable. We really appreciated the diamond education he gave us when we first contacted him. It was extremely helpful to us for deciding what qualities were important to us, and where we could save money to stay in budget and still be happy with our diamond purchase. When it came time to design our ring, we felt a little lost as neither of us has ever designed jewelry before. Russell was extremely helpful, asking all the right questions and guiding us as our thoughts and ideas became tangible. We enjoyed the process, seeing the computer renderings and then receiving the wax mold. When we got the final product, it was perfect. A few months later, my then-fiancé went back and ordered a matching wedding band, which was a beautiful surprise. Russell helped him make something that fit the shape of my engagement ring, resulting in a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind set. We are so happy with everything about our rings and experience, and would recommend the Diamond Specialists to everyone. read more

So, We're back. Russel has always taken good care of us. Back in 2013, our home was burglarized in broad daylight. The thieves got away with virtually all my wife's jewelry, including a very sentimental ring I bought for her when we first got married. The only thing they didn't get was her wedding ring. I guess we should count our blessings there. So we stopped in to have the wedding ring cleaned (which you should do annually, so they Can check the setting and the stone. On the list of to do's was resize the ring since it was getting a little tight. Russel verifies the stone is the same as what was there when we purchased the ring, then it's a week wait to do the resize. Because in this case it was three bands soldered together it was a little more complicated to resize. Not a problem... While there we were browsing my wife saw a ring similar to the one that was stolen. We scrolled through catalogs to find what we wanted, a setting that held five staggered Marquis stones. We had to wait the week for the estimate, pricing stones and setting, etc., and we had to wait for the ring to be resized, but with precious metals prices what they are now, the ring was out of budget. ( For the moment) But when we came to pick up her resized ring, I saw a nice small five stone ring and pointed it out. It had heart shaped stones and fit our budget so it came home with us too! Thanks again Russ for great service and a great experience! Rob and Dawnie read more

I strongly recommend before going to the "fo sho" places such as: the wedding ring shop, ben bridge, tiffany's, Harry Winston, and the list goes on, SEE RUSSELL. He will personally take the time to sit down and educate you not only on the 4C's of diamonds, but the ins and outs of the diamond business. He shares about how some places, the way they display their diamonds makes a big difference, but at the end, a slight color better or a slight clarity better could end up costing you thousands of dollars more and can't even be differentiated to the naked eye for clarity or unless compared to side-by-side for color and carat. He even says some people purchase diamonds online and ask him to set them. He has to break the news and say, it is a CZ buddy. He even provides hands-on displays where you can look under the microscope, look at a diamond color grading machine, and he even has the same doo hickey that the wedding ring shop provides that you can see their famous "hearts on fire" diamond. All it is is a marketing thing for an ideal cut, because russell can do the same, just his is called hearts and arrows. There is no obligation to buy something, just call set up a time to sit down, you will certainly come out feeling at ease when searching for that perfect stone. Oh did i mention his staff is very very friendly and helpful too read more

You will not find a more enjoyable shopping experience anywhere else. Russell and his staff seem to have infinite patience, and they really take the time to teach and inform you about all things jewelry. They're friendly, funny, and very easy to talk to. They're interested in what the customer wants, but are more than happy to provide guidance or advice if needed. I visited all of the jewelry stores that advertise heavily, and came away very unimpressed. Sales staff at those other places give you their attention for 5-10 minutes, tops. At the recommendation of a friend, I gave Russell a call. The first time we met, all we did was talk diamonds. No attempt to sell was made. He gave me a crash course in the measurements, ratios and other things I should be looking for in a stone, while also warning me about terms that amounted to nothing more than marketing. I had a custom design in mind for my wife's engagement ring, and he somehow deciphered the chicken scratches I put down on paper and turned it into the picture I had in my head. And for that, they've made a lifelong customer. No matter what amount of money you spend on your piece, you feel like you're getting a great value, and that's the most important thing. Highly HIGHLY recommended. read more

I wrote a review of The Diamond specialists earlier this year and I have to re-iterate my feelings. I called Russel since I had bought an engagement ring there and I needed a *rush* order. He came through. In less than 24 hours, I had a ring fit to my specifications in time for me to make my airplane. Make the trip up to them at Kahala Mall and at least get a quality education on diamonds before you shop around. He'll actually instruct you on diamonds. As a guy who did a lot of research on diamonds prior to buying one, I can honestly say he gave me even more information and hands on knowledge of what each grade of diamond looks like. If you don't want to feel like you're shopping for a used car, see Russel. If you want good quality, great service, and experience, see Russ. read more

Russell and his team at The Diamond Specialists are simply the best! Not only was Russell helpful in educating my fiancée and I on diamonds, but also was the most professional and honest person we've ever met while shopping for an engagement ring. Russell provides a free diamond education course that covers everything you need to know before buying a diamond and is something I've only seen at The Diamond Specialists. I have checked out other places in town and it seemed that many places would often assume I have no clue about diamonds and would try to impress me with how much the diamonds sparkles under their lights. It wasn't until I would ask for a loupe/jeweler's eyepiece or ask questions that Russell educated me on that would bring them to a different tone, which would make me wonder what else they're not telling me. I must admit, if I hadn't gone to the Russell and been educated on diamonds before checking out the other popular locations, I probably would have gotten ripped off. Russell was also very helpful in allowing me to first purchase a simple diamond solitaire so that I could make a surprise proposal with a ring, and then allowing my fiancée to customize it how she liked it. Customizing a ring with Russell was a great process. Russell covers everything when customizing a ring; from the pros and cons of metal types (white gold, platinum, palladium, etc.) to even the type of prongs she liked, all while staying within my budget! Russell's knowledge, expertise, and professionalism, makes buying and customizing an engagement ring a great experience and a purchase that you can be confident in. My fiancée and I couldn't be happier with our choice and going with Russell and The Diamond Specialists for her engagement ring. I would definitely suggest you at least talk with Russell before going to anywhere else. read more

Upon recommendation from a friend I was able to find this very small tucked away shop on the top floor of Kahala mall and the jeweler there spent over an hour educating us on diamonds (all the aspects that make for a better diamond). They taught us long before we looked into buying anything. In fact we left and didn't come back to buy after looking at 4 other jewelers and rechecking what we had learned through net research. And when we made our purchase we knew our price was fair, and we weren't paying a huge mark-up for ridiculous profits the swanky shop full of smoke and mirrors like the wedding ring shop. I would recommend the tungsten bands for the groom; mine shines as if new and has no scratches and was $150!!! When you leave you WILL be happy! Your fiancee will be delighted too and you will have saved money for other important expenses like a house down payment, dress cost, etc etc. read more

I am in the market for a luxury timepiece. I begin my research online like many of us do and start looking in the local market for venues or private owners who may be selling their watches. So, it's 12AM and I come across The Diamond Specialists website and directly on the homepage there are 25+ watches listed for sale. I find a couple timepieces on their site that I'm impressed with and decide to go to Kahala in the morning to see their inventory in person. I get there around 10-11AM and they buzz me in. I ask them about the timepieces and they tell me, "Oh, we used to, but we don't anymore." When I mention that I saw them on their website, a lady chimes in and says, "We should probably take those down." I will admit that when I checked their site 3 days later, they did remove those watch listings. Call me "old fashioned" but if you're going to advertise something on your website, I anticipate that you will keep it current. 2 stars - "Meh, I've experienced better." The people were friendly enough and they took responsibility for their negligence, but I ended up wasting a morning cruising over to Kahala only to be disappointed. read more

This is the first place I went to look for a diamond, and really, it was also the last place that I needed to go. The experience was a hundred times better than I had been expecting. Russell gave me an hour-long lesson on how to pick a good diamond, even though I was just a walk-in (though I do recommend you make an appointment, since it's a small shop). He's very honest and he cares about getting people exactly what they want. He even has special tools to check the brilliance of the diamonds he gets. Without a doubt, this is the place to go... Not only to purchase your diamond, but to get educated about what your buying. The first time I met with Russell he invited us in and gave us a great educational consultation on everything diamonds. If you're like me, a first time buyer, you really have no idea of diamond quality and value. But, after our consultation, I felt comfortable that Russell was my "diamond" guy and that I was in good hands. Talk about being "timely", I got the ring in about 2 weeks and it was everything I thought it was going to be. Needless to say, my fiance was thrilled when she received her ring. My sister recommended visiting a few stores during my search for an engagement ring and I'm glad I did! I'm a happy customer and would recommend Russell and The Diamond Specialists to any family and friends. The first stop was at a popular stop in town. Though their customer service was good enough, I was glad to leave - high pressure, didn't have an opportunity to see everything I wanted, and felt like they were telling me only what I wanted to know. I was bummed, especially if the rest of my search was going to be like this. I Yelped a bunch of places and seeing the reviews decided to stop by. I was a little skeptical at first. I had solicited plenty of feedback and read quite a bit on the internet, but within the first 5 minutes I realized I had to throw out misconceptions and that I had a lot to learn. Russell took his time explaining everything to me and I liked his easy-going style. I left with the intention of visiting another store out of due diligence but changed my mind and came back. The entire process was smooth and there was no rush - just over 2 weeks from the first visit, to picking diamonds, to picking up the ring. I plan on having wedding bands done here, as well as purchasing any future jewelry. read more

My fiancé and I came here yesterday to have my diamond engagement ring inspected. I had left it somewhere overnight, but gotten it resized elsewhere. The shop where I resized my ring mentioned that the laser inscription in the diamond was not on our paperwork. We were a little worried about that, so I emailed Russell about this, and he responded in a few hours that we could stop by free-of-charge if we called to set up an appointment. My fiancé called to set up an appointment, and we were able to stop by on the same day. Russell quickly informed us that we only had the appraisal information, and that the certificate might have the laser inscription information. He entered our report number and printed out the certificate, and sure enough, the number in the diamond matched the number on the certificate! We felt so relieved! He even took the time to show my fiancé the inscription. We also looked around at the wedding bands, and they had a nice selection with the option of ordering additional styles. They even had engagement rings on-site! Russell showed us a few wedding bands, and explained the pros/cons of the different metals/styles. Overall, I had an extremely pleasant experience from the time that I had initially emailed Russell to when we left the shop. He gave us a lot of good advice, and we will definitely be back for our wedding bands! Highly recommend! PS: This location is right above Kuru Kuru Sushi. If you're looking for an engagement ring I highly urge you to use The Diamond Specialist. I had a short time frame to propose, a family diamond that my mother had given me and a budget for the band. I made a reservation and visited them after leaving the Wedding Ring Shop unsatisfied with their production time and overwhelmed by their prices. Needless to say it was the right choice for me. I sat down with them and they understood my situation. They cleaned the jewelry I brought, showed it too me under the microscope, measured it and helped me decided which setting was best for the proposal. I'll admit I wasn't sure I wanted to give the go ahead but when she said it would be ready in under 2 weeks the decision was made. They also gave me the option if my girlfriend wanted to change the setting or band the would give me nearly 100% credit for the band I paid for. They called 10 days later notifying that it was ready and I was amazed at what I saw when I picked it up. It was something I would be so proud to propose to my girlfriend with. Ok I'll wrap it up. The Diamond Specialists - Love my ring!!! - Jewelry Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Great service and such nice people! We hope to be back to support their business in the near future! Mahalo!

I am the proud owner of an engagement ring designed and made by Russell :) My wonderful fiance and I went and saw him to learn more about diamonds after reading all the reviews on Yelp. We had been talking for a while about getting engaged and had looked at rings almost everywhere. I found a ring I loved at another store and we were actually going to get that ring, but were thinking of buying the center stone for the setting from Russell. We stopped in to make an appointment, and Russell had another couple that was just sitting down to get their "diamond education". His assistant was nice enough to ask if we could join in and the couple was nice enough to agree. I liked that they were so accomodating. After learning everything there is to know about diamonds we were very impressed by the thorough, calm, and patient way in which Russell explained everything. We felt that we could trust him b/c he took the time to educate us on our investment, and that was very important to us. The difference between the experience there and the experience we had at other jewelry retailers was like night and day - and he wasn't even trying to sell us anything!! To take that much time with each customer, without even pushing for or having a guarantee of a sale shows that they run their business so much differently and more personally than the flashy brand-name places. My fiance decided secretly to have Russell make the ring that I wanted instead of buying it for more just because it was a well known brand. This way he could get a bigger and better rock! :) It also let him really be hands on with the whole experience and get to feel like he was involved every step of the way. He snuck around for several months emailing back and forth with Russell to ensure the mock-ups and drawings for my ring were perfect. They selected the most gorgeous center stone for my ring, and people always comment on the beauty of the cut and how sparkly it is. I know my fiance was able to make the very best selection in the stone b/c of the things he learned from Russell about diamonds. I love my engagement ring and my soon-to-be husband is so proud to see it on my finger everyday. We recently had it appraised as well for more than we paid for it which is always a nice plus! I am looking forward to going in to have it cleaned so I can thank Russell and his staff in person! read more

If it were possible to give a -100 star review, I would! The old lady that greeted us-if you want to call it a greeting-was extremely rude, condescending and impatient. She didn't want to let us explain what we were looking for and started gesturing with hand motions to hurry it up and say what we needed. I guess apparently we were wasting her time. After seeing her react that way towards us, I quickly told my boyfriend, "Let's go somewhere else, I don't want to be here." What makes it worse was the owner, Russell, was present and watching our conversation with the old lady and how rude she was being and did nothing about it. This place was a family recommendation. We had called previous to showing up less than an hour later and had explained over the phone that a cousin had recommended seeing Russell and we were calling to make sure he was in before heading over, yet that made no difference, we were still treated rudely. Hey, to give them credit, at least they are rude and impersonal to everyone equally! Shopping for a symbol of everlasting love should be an enjoyable experience and this was the exact opposite. We feel people who deal with potential customers should be professional, pleasant and kind as we have experienced this at other businesses and appreciate their outstanding customer service. You would think that being around so long, this company would know that great customer service is important. Unfortunately it seems that being in Kahala and serving customers willing to put up with horrible service while still spending money, has not taught them any good customer service skills. read more
