This is the third dentist that has decided to drop Dental Care Plus. Due to the pandemic getting into a new dentist is challenged because many are not taking new patients. The dentists keep telling us that they are dropping dental care plus because their customer service is terrible, they pay almost nothing, and they do not support top tier dental care. Considering a human gets one set of adult teeth we should be able to get the proper care we deserve. My employer selects our benefits so it's not like I have much choice in a plan. Going forward seems like the better option is to drop the insurance all together and self pay. The woman at their customer service told me that she couldn't tell me anything other than find a new dentist that accepts their plans. I told her thanks for her time and she asked if she could do anything else. Since she couldn't answer my initial questions I highly doubt she was capable of anything else. The myth of the Affordable Care Act...Obamacare...the Insurance Exchange...whatever you want to call it...is that once you sign up for insurance, you're "covered." This isn't true. You might be paying for insurance, but the coverage covers almost nothing and no doctors or dentists will accept you with this type of insurance. I signed up for a DentaTrust dental plan through healthcare.gov and made my first payment over the phone. Three weeks later, I hadn't received an insurance card so I called their customer service line. Not only were they rude, but they hadn't even processed my application! Three weeks of paid "coverage" down the drain. I checked my network for dentists that will accept my insurance plan in the Indianapolis area. Other than urgent dental clinics, I found three dentists. Three. I called one of the dentists. The office manager said that with my insurance plan, I would have to pay all dental fees upfront and DentaTrust would reimburse me later. This sounded like a terrible idea based on my initial experience with DentaTrust. I called the second dentist on a Friday afternoon. Nobody would answer the phone. All calls went straight to voicemail. I'm not feeling good about this arrangement. When choosing a dental insurance plan, avoid DentaTrust and their other two incarnations DentaSpan and DentaQuest. You're basically paying them insurance premiums to be uninsured. read more

Since November 2021 I have been trying to change my Group Dental Plan with Dental Care Plus. I left several messages for my Account Representative and NEVER received a call back until January 2022. I called the Customer Service Number and they told me to send an email to get my change taken care of - no reply from them. Finally, in January 2022, the Account Rep called me back & told me she had been out on maternity leave. Her voicemail message did not indicate she was out for an extended period of time and no one seemed to be monitoring her messages. Now that the rep is back I can't get a return call in a timely manner, I can't get return emails and I don't know whether my plan has been changed or not. Getting answers to questions has taken DAYS so I'm now past the first of the month. In fact, getting answers to questions from the end of February has NOT HAPPENED. This used to be a great company but now is AWFUL. read more

Horrrrrrible customer service!!!! They are beyond rude!!! My children's dental practice went so far to say they don't even know if they are legit. They spent an hour and a half on the phone on hold and couldn't even speak to them. They lie on their website for what dental doctors are covered. I had a plan that would cover a crown after a year. I needed a crown after several years of coverage. Dental Care refused to pay their share stating the crown was put on an implant, even though I paid for the implant in full. No where in my contract or on their website does it state crowns on implants are exempt. Trying to settle this by phone or email was an exercise in futility. Not very nice people. read more

In January I went in to my dentist for standard check-up and cleaning. Due to the pandemic, my dental office did not bill DentaTrust within the time they apparently require. I received a call from my dentists' office that the bill was unpaid, so I called DentaTrust. They were absolutely unhelpful over the phone, and so at their instruction, I submitted a request in writing to them for payment of the bill. No word back from them, but I received a call from my dentist that they had paid a small portion of the bill ($75), leaving me with $175 to pay out of pocket. To make matters worse, I had cancelled my policy with them in May because I had new employment with new insurance - but they have continued to bill me for the past five months, even after I called regarding their non-payment and continued wrongful billing, and included the wrongful billing complaint in my letter regarding the non-payment for my dental bill. So they not only did NOT provide the coverage I am paying for, they are actually billing me after I cancelled the policy! Make no mistake, they are absolutely diligent about collecting (premiums, even stealing from people who are no longer customers, but they certainly take any opportunity to stiff their customers (current and former) when they're able. read more

Do not go with DentaTrust. I signed up for this plan through the Health Exchange. It looked like a promising plan because it had dentists covered in offices all around the metropolitan area of the city where I live. Once the coverage began I started looking for a dentist and that is where everything fell apart. The only dentists that were covered were working in offices for low-income clients. These were all government funded clinics, and as you can imagine they were either completely not taking new patients or the wait lists were months long. In addition to that, I don't meet the technical requirement for the low-income clinic, so it was somewhat of a conundrm as to what to do. I called DentaTrust to talk with them about these issues and I was in the cue for over 20 minutes before I hung up because I had to get back to work. I have found one office that will take me, but with further investigation it would be cheaper for me not to have any dental insurance and to pay the fees out of pocket than to have them covered through the plan. This is a complete waste of money. I am so incredibly frustrated. Any other dental plan, or even no dental plan at all, would be better than the situation that I am in now. Epic fail. read more

If there was a ZERO STAR option, I would have chosen that! This insurance is beyond terrible! NO ONE accepts the insurance! I have called 3 pages of providers listed in THEIR PROVIDER DIRECTORY and not one of them accepts the insurance. So, I'm paying for insurance that is useless and no one accepts. I have tried to call customer service 11 times and have sat rotting on hold for over 2 hours each time and no one ever answers the phone! There is literally no one on the other end. I can't even get a human to find out any answers. I would rather be paying out of pocket for 2x per year cleanings than to be paying for useless insurance and wasting this much time trying to contact them. RUN!!!!! This seems to be a scam. After signing up, there are no dentists anywhere near where I live, in a major metropolitan area, that accept this insurance, in fact, our current dentist never heard of it. You cannot reach anyone on the phone, calling from my cell phone I got "user busy" message that I have NEVER seen before. read more

Paid first premium after signing up in December. Got email saying they will send me dental coverage cards in the mail. That didn't happen. It's now Jan 31st, STILL no dental ins cards. Have called and called and called - keep getting music, no person to talk to and constant waiting, waiting and more waiting to talk to a live person to no avail. They STOLE my money. This is the WORST "company" I've ever had to deal with. I also gave them a bad review on Facebook. Am so glad I read all the bad reviews about them. They will NOT be getting any more of my hard-earned money. read more

I selected this dental care plan from the Affordable Care Act choices and it has been a huge disappointment. My sons had their treatment in April 2016 and as of today, August 28, 2017, I have not received the reimbursement for the services. I have spent a total of 9 hours on the phone trying to resolve the issue and get different information every time. This is a sham organization and I will avoid it at all costs for 2018. read more

The big insurance companies need to learn from some of these local companies!!! Their EOB's are easy to read, They pay like they say they will/ or they call you if they need something more. They pay on time. I have had no problems with Dental Care Plus, Superior, or Custom Design Benefits!!! AND I GET TO TALK TO PEOPLE!!! I deal with Insurance companies for a living and if I could avoid Cigna and Metlife I would!! They are the worst in my book read more
