On entering l was greeted by one if the owners who said "hello and how are you today " and that alone is something rare these days, never met such polite staff and helpful in every way. The first thing l noticed when l walked in was how well stocked the shop was, everything was in its place, on the shelves where stocked with locally sourced in Edinburgh or Scotland, from biscuits to locally made jam. There where in house made pizza slices to go as well as coleslaw, and cheesecake. The Mouse hole deli stock a variety of scottish cheeses with a selection of cold cut meats, with the usual deli items such as the salads, fresh eggs available and an assortment of baked breads. The outside had blackboards about french cheeses and meats, along with a blackboard drawing of France and pictures of foods and wines showing the location things had come fun! It was a really cute and cool shop. Inside the shop is packed with delicious foods, drinks, meats and cheeses and even local choclates. The table section is small just about 6 little two people tables, but the deli like food that was being taking to the tables made us ever to come back for lunch in the near future! Since we were just out on a stroll , we got some pastries to go, and had them later at home. They were delicious! I had a pear almond tartlet which had a thin shortbread like crust.

The Zulu Lounge offers an extensive breakfast menu and the main meals are authentic South African dishes such as 'Gatzby', a filled baguette, and traditional South African sausage. I had the smoked salmon burrito which was really delicious and just under £7 so it was quite expensive. I think the burrito was a safe dish to order so next time I would like to be more adventurous and try their traditional sausage as one of the servers in the shop described the sausage as having a 'unique' flavour. They also serve home baking, hot chocolate and, best of all, fresh muffins which are gorgeous.

This was served with crisps for about £4.50 which was an okay deal considering it was quite a lot of food. The roll tasted unusual but it was new, interesting and filling. The Zulu Lounge is a great alternative to the usual greasy spoons and certainly worth a visit for a culinary trip on the wild side!

But they are just far too aldente with the french beans on visit one. After saying twice that the needed to be cooked more (served rock hard to us) we used the microwave to blast them. They did however take the beans off the bill and apoligised. Lovely wee gift shop full of delightful and dainty gifts. The deli is just as good and stocks the beer from the microbrewery much to the hubbies delight.

The brownie is decadent, rich and with the right amount of crunch & gooey ratio. Scotch egg was yum, sausage roll got the thumbs up. Much cheese was bought and consumed. They have my fave (Comte) which was a super added bonus. Great place to stop for a bite and a wander around. Try not to miss the Brewery tours like we did... (gives us a reason to go back!). Don't be afraid to ask for tasters of the beers, grab a pint and sit on a comfy couch to enjoy it! If only I had a car... I'd totally be back.. but I'm sure I'll find a way to return.. somehow!

Though I have to admit at times it can be a tinsy bit pricey for those on the budget.... but its so cute and has so many imports you can't find in St. Andrews that the premium is worth it. They have my favourite type of Amaretti cookies which I was super excited about! But I have to say I couldn't afford their Truffle oil (go to Morrisons, they have it too... and cheap but probably not the same quality as the Little Italian Shop). When my parents where visiting we came here and got some cheese and pasta and pesto sauce (and wine of course) and made a meal from this place. And (don't hate me for mentioning it again) but the shop is just so cute that I can't help but love it! Sometimes I get a little worried though when I walk by and I don't see anyone inside.... I don't want this place to close because of the recession!

There is always a good special on, the last time I went there the special was a spicy chicken wrap with salsa and cheese and it was delicious and only cost £2.80! They also have a good range of fillings on other baguettes and sandwiches and all the ingredients that they use are fresh. Furthermore they have a good range of coffees including lattes, espressos and cappuccinos as well as tea and cold drinks. There are also salad boxes on sale which cost around £3.50 and there are a variety of home-made soupls on sale here as well. Will definitely be coming back soon!

The cheese selection is very good as well. The buttery brie in the display case is just melting away by the minute. The staff were also super nice and were accommodating enough to make me a ice-cream coffee (I got a half cup of the flat white and then got a scoop of the local vanilla ice-cream added - delicious!). Also this place was the only shop serving food that was open on the High Street on a Friday evening after 5pm (they close at 5:30). Would recommend.
