A co-worker brought this "rag" to my attention (actually another employee was IN it) and like a trainwreck on the Springer show, I had to check it out. I actually went and purchased one today for Yelpsearch (again, you can thank me later). This thing is sold behind the counter at certain convenience stores (check the webbie for locations) for $1 and NO tax. One dollar to make you holler. And just like Springer, I don't know whether to love it or hate it or be embarrassed by it....so 3 stars. A few thoughts I had whilst perusing this publication: How in the hell do they get away with putting peoples' mugshots in print???? (apparently thru the Freedom of Info Act and by mentioning on every page that all are innocent until proven guilty) I thought I was having a bad day.... I thought I was having a bad HAIR day...... There but for the grace of God go I...... What kind of pic would I have??? (see morning after pic, most likely) This thing posts everyone (watch yourselves out there creepy peeps!) from general public intoxication offenders, to repeat sex offenders (with "notorious recidivism"), to child beaters, and from "old farts" to "whipper snappers" and "busted beauties" to "handsome hooligans" (btw, they're all innocent til proven guilty). It also posts restaurant inspection ratings, little games to match the mugshot with the offense, and always reminds us that "Jesus Loves You" (I shit you not!). And just like daytime TV, this makes me feel a little dirty and ashamed for viewing it. I nervously laugh at these people, convincing myself that my life is sooo much better and I am soo much better until I remember some of the stuff I've done and......(I am innocent til proven guilty!).

I suppose up until that point, I just misunderstood the station. Especially the switch over to the UT station which seems to have a constant stream of kids talking about Star Wars. Anyways, back to KOOP. The community sponsored station is run by volunteers and it shows in their programming. They play what they like and they want everyone else to hear. Turn it on, then sit back and enjoy.

Listening to this station, is the soundtrack to keeping Austin Weird. Since it's all local volunteers, the music selections are as diverse as the music tastes in the Live Music Capitol of the World! Seriously, if you don't like the music here, just wait a little bit. Just like the weather in Texas! The DJs change out every few hours, and each one brings their own selection of weird music. You're not going to hear Top 40 on here. I like the fact that there's no real advertisements on this station. They're all public service announcements, and local issues that they talk about. The coolest thing about this station is that if you wanna get on the radio badly enough, they'll put you on the air, and provide the training on how to do it! KOOP's mission is "to engage, connect and enrich the whole community, including the underserved, through creating diverse, quality, educational music and news programming." They fulfill their mission!

I attended a fundraising event at KLRU PBS today at the Austin Community College Highland campus…read more I was not aware that KLRU PBS had a space to host a social gathering. The capacity in the main event room was approximately 250. The room had a raised stage with audio visuals and large projection screen. There were 10 persons table with ample room to pass by. During the event there were several stations set up, picture backdrop and a rotating camera station. Within the hallways and the main even space there was plenty of room to walk without bumping into someone. Staff was on hand to direct you or help you with questions. They were all super friendly. I will definitely consider coming to or planning an event here.

The process told me to go to my email and get a new confirmation code. I did. I followed the instructions. When I went to sign on I received a message stating that my subscription had expired and ask if I would like to renew my subscription.....over and over the instructions went. Sign in or subscribe. Two days trying to get someone on the phone..... no success. The only reason I sometimes touch base on PBS is to see what liberal garbage is being expounded. It is opinion for the most part and is always lower than one would expect from a taxpayer funded entity.

These guys do a good job of spinnin' those discs and jamming those vinyl records. Being that they're an Austin City Limits radio station, that doesn't limit them to one genre of music. ACL music series- the show, and the concert series have had music all over the map. So if you say that you're an ACL radio station, you can really get away with playing just about anything, there's gotta be some way that every major artist is somehow associated with either the show or the concert series. If you don't like the genre of music, just like the weather in Texas, just give it a few minutes, and it'll change. I do get sick of the number of commercials that these guys play.

A whole publication about music in the Lone Star State!…read more This publication seems to be done by a big fan of country and western, as that's what a lot of the music in here is. They're also focusing heavily on the Austin area with their acts. There's not a lot of mention of acts coming through the rest of the Lone Star State. I wouldn't rely upon this newspaper if you lived in, say El Paso. The articles are a lot of interviews with up and coming musicians, asking them what their influences are, how long they've been playing, etc. It can be a bit difficult to get the gist of a music act through written word, but they do a good job of explaining the music. It's a good place to see who's touring around Texas, and to find out about new album releases. Since they're mainly representing the Live Music Capitol of the World, they do a fantastic job of covering the live entertainment schedule, on a long term basis. The Chronicle does a better job of telling who's playing where and when on a weekly basis. If you're into Texas country and western music in the Austin area, this is your publication. I always find it available for free at Waterloo Records on 6th and Lamar.

Without the attention from papers such as this, we would become one of those cities that used to have a cool music scene. These publications, along with the support of so many people who buy CDs and go to shows, keep our music breathing. Their commercials are LOUD which I hate because most of the people in them yell or they have some wacked out music from 1988 blaring in the background. But then I think of "Austin's watching FOX! Austin's watching FOX!" I can forgive them for the noise. I only really want to watch 2 to 3 hours of judge shows when I get the day off, so taking a full day and afternoon of the programming is out of the question. I do thoroughly enjoy that good 2 to 3 hours of Judge Alex and Judge Joe Brown and Judge Judy (the best!) and, again, half the fun is the commercials. You get crazy David Komie "I don't look like a lawyer, but it helps me sneak up on them" and whoever that Funk guy is yelling and parading around that Hummer he painted with his name all over it. I hate the Allied Health Careers and business school ones though, and I think if I watched them everyday the irritation of them alone would have me interviewing everywhere within a week. The best thing about Fox 7 is just how sensational and over the top it is. I love that. I love that their newscasts have names like Fox 7 News Edge First at Nine! I think they could add a "2 the X-treme!" in there somewhere to really drive it over the top. But for now, that'll do. Fox 7 is just very entertaining all around to watch and I really appreciate how much fun it is when I go home and watch bland boring Shreveport newscasts where you want to poke the newscasters with a stick to get some life out of them. One more thing! I love how they are letting children do the weather reports in the morning. When it's not precious, it's hilarious. I've been switching over from GMA more and more.

Do not use this company! I'm a small business owner and used them for sign services at our…read moreshowroom. Start to finish, they made mistake after mistake along every step of the process. Every mistake they made they blamed a different department within their company or the previous person in that position that was no longer with the company. First they misquoted me because of their inability to listen even though I repeatedly made very clear what I wanted. And it wasn't until we had already proceeded with the project assuming the first quote I was given was correct since I clearly went over everything I wanted with them. So my options were to get less than what I wanted for the price I expected or get what I expected for more than the price I wanted and was given. I should have cut my losses then. Getting them to do anything was like pulling teeth out and the communication was non existent. After doing everything to get the job done except the actual printing of the material, I provided my payment information to them to take payment and be done with them. That was in September 2021. Never once did I get a call from them or receive any notification from them in the mail until this month (May 2022) when I received a very demanding 90+ day past due invoice. They took my payment information but never processed my payment. And what do you know, when I reached out to ask why they never processed the payment and why I'm just now finding out about it, more finger painting within other departments of the same company. Saying I had a horrible experience would be an understatement. Do not do business with this joke of a company
