That was the first indicator that this was not going to be what I grew up eating in California. It was not. Although everything was prepared perfectly, it was under-seasoned, not spicy at all, barely 'mild' by salsa standards. Even the complimentary chips and salsa tasted like crushed tomatoes with a hint of chili. There were no bottles of hot sauce on the table, like Tabasco or Cholula. I asked the server for "más picoso salsa, por favor." She was surprised and quite delighted to get it for me. It was perfect, I put it on everything! When I paid my bill, I mentioned to the hostess that the food didn't seem very hot. She politely smiled, seeming a bit embarrassed, "You have to ask for it spicy." Wow. I guess the Southern biscuits and gravy crowd can't handle a little heat. All-in-all, it's a nice restaurant with attentive staff, good music playing, and clean restrooms. I will come back! And now I know to order it spicy from the get go. (And I was happy they have Coke, rather than Pepsi products.)

They won't cook the burgers less than medium which tells you about the quality of their meat. Why do local independent restaurants just want to copy an Applebees? The Asylum, around the corner, is much better as far as this kind of food goes.

The pepperoni bread was the most delicious thing, but it ended there. The currywurst was overpowered with the curry flavoring and a bit dry. It wasn't at all reminiscent of what I had in Germany. While the red cabbage cut it a little, having more strongly seasoned ketchup served with it only intensified the taste and added some moisture. They really need to revisit the balance. The desert pretzel was also okay. Very small for the price, and served with a pre manufactured cup of Nutella. It would have been much better warmed. We left disappointed after really looking forward to some good food.
