The service was great, just grab your drinks sit down at a table, peruse the really good menu and then order at the till. The food came out cooked freshly and was great, goats cheese on a portabello mushroom is very tasty (ask for the chutney on the side not over it). A rump steak cooked to perfection with all the trimmings and a beer and ale pie for my wife with vegetables went down very well. The finale was the 'pudding table' with 3 puddings, 1 x vanilla ice-cream, 1 x mint ice-cream and a bit of cream is especially for sharing but, would have shared four really good idea and portions were quite big considering. The wine was quite good and you can't complain at £8.95 a bottle. Definitely worth visiting again if we are ever in the area. W. R.

Being born and raised in the area I have been to this pub many, many times during my life and I'm sorry to say that it has deteriorated over the last decade or so. In my youth this was a wonderful village pub, with no allusions of being anything more. It's where the locals could get a pint, a chat and traditional pub grub (scampi, cod and chips, ale pie, etc). Quick, wholesome and tasty meals. Since coming under new management it seems to be heading further and further away from being the heart of the village to being a peusdo gastro-pub, punching way above its weight as it fails to deliver what it promises. The interior itself is cozy with a combination of stones and wood accents everywhere. I spied a beautiful patio where the scenery has no obstructions. We, however decided to stay indoors and got a nice corner round table by the window next to the fireplace. Adding to the homey feel, the gentleman who took care of us was jovial and friendly throughout our wonderful lunch here. I started with the STILTON and PEPPER MUSHROOMS on a brioche bread. I was swayed to try this granted that this is an English cheese produced only in the UK, similar to blue cheese in strong smell and taste. What a superb dish! The FISH and CHIPS was also the best I had on this trip. Perfectly crisp batter on the outside and a flaky moist white fish inside, every criteria they nailed. Even the chips were just the right thickness with not a single one of them soggy. A very fitting last meal in Wales that was pleasant and memorable.

The food I had was good, it was a new menu. after the refurb, the place looks better, but I wouldn't say it was particularly comfortably. There are some places that just don't quite make it as a comfy atmosphere. Perhaps its the hard furnishings or the shape of the rooms.
