The vibe was welcoming and exactly what you'd hope for from a local beach coffee shop. The staff were friendly and made us feel right at home. We ordered a couple of cold brews, bagels, a bacon, egg & cheese breakfast sandwich, and a cinnamon roll. Everything was fresh and hit the spot. The cinnamon roll was good, though compared to some of the best I've had I'd give it about a 7.6/10. Overall, Daily Grind is definitely worth a visit if you're in Surf City. We had the pleasure of trying the Daily grind multiple days during our vacation, it's really delicious! The coffees are wonderful- multiple days we got an iced chai with 2 shots of espresso and Nutella flavoring. It's delicious. I tried the s'mores lattes- it was pretty good, not my favorite combo they have but overall it was tasty. The food is the only thing I had wished was a little better. The eggs were not seasoned so the sandwich overall was just okay. All of the bacon was on one end of the sandwich. On a croissant it was kinda bland. The workers are all very nice and the inside is clean and fun. We definitely recommend stopping in for their drinks!! read more

Cute spot! The daily grind was recommended in the guest book at our Airbnb, so we popped on in. It had mostly locals, it seemed, and getting into it involved walking through a bar, but no biggie. The shop was well-staffed and they took our order right away. I got an Iced Americano and bagel with cream cheese. They made my iced Americano nice and strong, which is all I ever ask. Also, the bagel was delicious even though I had to wait a little bit for them to get it made. They did get busy pretty fast, so I wouldn't doc them for this reason. You can tell this is a family owned place because there is memorabilia from the owner and the owner's late husband all over. I loved the portrait that said, "don't sweat the small sh*t, and it's all small sh*t." Truer words were never spoken! Overall, solid place to pop in for your caffeine fix! read more

The reviews are what inspired us to try this place. The homemade donuts were the draw for my son. I got the large iced latte with a shot of salted caramel. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't great. It was coffee. I could've gotten the same thing at circle k for $2. The "homemade" donuts were super disappointing. Overpriced and super tiny little cake donuts.. with some random toppings.. it wasn't a horrible experience, just think the other hyped reviews are over the top. The staff is nice, the establishment seemed clean, if you're in need of coffee and this is the closest place and you're not very picky or particular about your coffee.. this may work for you I just wanted to add that even though we weren't wowed, the fact that the owner responded shows that this company cares and that alone tells me that maybe we went on an off day and we should give them another try. During my weekend trip to Surf City, I visited The Daily Grind twice because it was delicious and the service was great! I ordered the Snickers (speciality drink/flavor) frappe with coconut milk and it was delicious!!! They have milk substitutions for those who have allergies/lactose intolerant. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I just ordered a Tazo iced tea and added a shot of raspberry sugar. From the party I was with, they would "get coffee every day from here if they could". They have a lot of different flavor shots you can add into the coffee in addition to teas, ice cream and some pastries. They have an indoor gift shop as well. This place does get crowded. What a find! Went to Topsail to meet a friend and she suggested this coffee place. They have plenty of seating outside under "tents" , and I understand they have music also on certain days. I walked inside to order my coffee and found that I was surrounded by baked items too , and they all looked delicious. So any choices to choose from . The staff were very friendly and helpful deciding what I was looking for in a drink. The shop is filled with clothing and they even have a wine selection too. Meh... The coffee was just alright. Nothing special. The baked goods, I had a muffin and it was tasty. The service was fine but the place was very crowded, especially with a lot of people milling around in a tight area waiting for their coffee order. I have never seen a coffee shop have so many sugar free syrup options, that not only taste good, put are already incorporated in to various drink flavors. Most places have 1-2 SF options that are shamefully written off to the side in small font (usually vanilla and caramel). At The Daily Grind I get to enjoy many flavors like coconut, cinnamon, white chocolate, peppermint, and more! My family (who doesn't share my dietary restrictions) also enjoy their smoothies and regular coffee syrups.
