"My dear Doctor, they're all true." "Even the lies?" "Especially the lies." In its broadsheet edition day, the Berkeley Daily Planet was both a great read and infuriating. I did not agree at all with their Israel, Marine Recruiting Office, and other "progressive" stances, and often found myself flinging down the paper in disgust. Yet, I couldn't wait to pick up the paper again and read some more, especially Becky O'Malley's "holy" opinions and the best letters section outside of the Anderson Valley Advertiser. Broad and sometimes contentious political debate within the Fourth Estate can be free speech at its best. "To hold a pen is to be at war" - Voltaire Unfortunately, thanks to narrow special interest boycott (of which one of the leaders has his say below), the economy, and some payroll service fraud thrown in, the Berkeley Daily Plant closed up their print edition and went on line. So image my delight when I recently picked up a Copy Mat "newsletter" edition of the Daily Planet. "Great Caesar's Ghost!" - Perry White I devoured the issue and was left wanting for more. So whether I agree with the content or not, I hope that the Daily Planet is on the way back, and mindful of the Joseph Pulitzer quote that "Newspapers should have no friends"

To echo other reviewers here, this company is a scam. Or to quote Admiral Ackbar from Star Wars,…read more"It's a trap!" Well, I got creative a review, thanks to this scammy company: Ah, "University Sports Publications," the lighthouse of unsolicited calls. Envision a company with such a dedication to bothering people, it's almost as if they've turned it into their very raison d'être. With the allure of a carnival barker and the relentlessness of a never-ending loop, they reach out under the pretense of representing everyone from esteemed educational institutions to government bodies. A veritable symphony of deception. On a perpetual quest for the "business owner," they spin yarns of opportunities and partnerships with all the inventiveness of a seasoned storyteller. Their commitment to the scam is, in a bizarre way, almost praiseworthy. The collective reviews here form a unified choir of the deceived and disturbed, highlighting University Sports Publications' exceptional skill in uniting individuals--against them. And if lawsuits are tales, then this company's storybook is rich with chapters of legal adventures and questionable business ethics. A quick search online reveals a treasure trove of lawsuits and warnings about their practices. So, should their number ever appear on your caller ID, prepare yourself. You're about to be offered a prime opportunity to test the limits of your patience. University Sports Publications: pioneers in the field of frustration. Before picking up, it might be wise to do a little digging into their colorful history of legal entanglements and business misadventures. Engage at your own peril, or perhaps find peace in the blissful act of hitting "ignore."

While another local shop couldn't even get me a quote (even after I met the person in person!), Habib of Hunza had the quote for me, broken down by the next day. I looked into one other printer locally, but Hunza beat them in price by a significant amount, plus, they were literally blocks away. Our product was an odd size, but they had no problem accommodating us. I even got a tour of the print area to see that they are indeed a professional, well organized shop. A week went by after I had said we'd have our product (due to internal revisions on the product) and Prizal was flexible and understood the issue. Finally, with product in hand, I rode over on bike and gave them the InDesign file. Rushing at the last minute, I had to put my file on a flash drive, instead of a DVD, but I was helped and out of the office within 10-minutes. We ran into some print issues of the paper spreading and messing with the offset registration (a combination of factors: going against grain, recycled content paper and paper size). They called me immediately, I came over and judged that the color shift did not merit the wasted paper from increasing the size of the paper. We also ran into another communications error on when the product was expected, but Habib managed to get in contact with the bindery to get the product to us. I highly recommend them, I'm certain that if you're company or product isn't as last-minute as ours was, they'll deliver above and beyond their expectations.

After one read of an article you'll have the knowledge of what animals and plant life you'll see there, what's it's condition is, what people are doing to help, and how you can get involved if you choose too. What I found so refreshing is the fact that it was done without being preachy. I love the outdoors but I wouldn't say that I have the need to be there more the 4 times a month. I love to know what people are doing to help our environment but don't always have the time to get out there and get my hands dirty, although I don't mind. Bay Nature is a way to stay connected with the human side of yourself that is attached to every other living thing, including the landscape we call Northern California.

My company is directly across the street from Poor Ann's, yet until recently we had never used them as our printer. When our current printer's pricing went up, we went searching for other options and found Poor Anns. The service there was fabulous. I came in with a business card and they gave us the best price, out of four local shops, to print 2000 business cards (about 250.00 total with two color). The second project I gave them was handled like pros also. I came in with a three ring binder of 100+ double sided, colored pgs and discussed reproducing it and having them bind it. They gave me all sorts of options and then significantly reduced the price for ordering 25+ of the "books". On top of all this amazing service, Stanely, the person that helped me, was happy to share his experiences in Europe with me (I'm soon going for my first time) and was just a joy to chat with. Additionally he quoted me a price but then negotiated with the owner, Rick, to get it even lower. GREAT GREAT PLACE! They printed the flyers for the Marin Ballet's Nutcracker this year, they can't be all bad if the ballet trusts them right?

In this…read moreday and age of instant information, most doubt how much information is available in a weekly local publication. Hands down, this newspaper has the pulse on the business environment of the Bay Area, with a heavy emphasis to San Francisco. Subscribing for over fifteen years, my workplace is a loyal customer to this great information source. Whether reading about what new businesses or projects are in the area to finding out what homes are selling for in the various Bay Area counties, SF Business Times keeps you on top of the area news. Whether you are in marketing, real estate, finance, or just nosy about what's going on, there's always some information that makes you say, "Gee, that's interesting!" Also, full props to their customer service staff in sending me missing issues (still not sure if it's my mailman or my coworkers) - likely suspects!). Unlike the "other" paper, I don't need to run to a newsstand and pay for another copy. Check this periodical out!
As a big fan of information, Knowledge is Power, I was very impressed with the "Read to Succeed…read moreSeminar" I attended at this publication's office. I know the title smacks of a literacy program, but it was actually an informative meeting on how to read the weekly publication to expand on networking and marketing. In these uncertain economic times, newspapers and jobs are falling by the wayside. Judd Walsh opened my eyes on ways to utilize many of the great sections to find sales leads, build market intelligence, and prospecting. He gave great tips and suggestions. Some of the most valuable info in the SFBT is in the form of "The Lists" published weekly and then at the end of the year in a large compendium. These "Listings" cover topics such as "Best Places to Work in the Bay Area" to The Top Wineries. Event announcements and articles on the different industries are excellent resources. I am now going to subscribe to the newspaper. Thanks to Veronica and also the gentleman that gave me a copy of 2009 Zagat Guide.
I saw this free paper, The City Star and gave it a read through…read more Not bad, I thought - and I like their color scheme as it matches my company. *Very seldom used light bulb* I called Benjamin Buggs from the info listed in the paper to see about getting my business an advertising hole. He was very helpful and quick to adjust his conversation with the typical bar, clothing retailer or whatever to understand the needs specific to a 24 hour locksmith service. He gave me a very thorough and very reasonable price list and we hammered out a size and daily run deal. He asked me a few questions and he said that he'd have his graphic arts department look at my web site for design cues and come up with a proposed piece. What they gave me was so near perfect that I only had to make two minor adjustments. For those that don't know - that's incredible. They get it. They very efficiently put all the information that I wanted listed as well as a fairly good print of my bird logo for a great price. All the while, Benjamin was brainstorming and coming up with quality ways to maximize exposure and minimize cost. If you're a business looking to advertise for a good rate - try the Examiner and Daily Star. I could not possibly be happier with the outcome.
