If you know me, you know that my hair is usually a fun color. Lately, because of health issues, my hair hasn't been fun. In fact, I have had a few of my Yelp friends reminisce about all the different colors they miss seeing on my head.
Well, today was the day - the annual NEW DO! I was so excited. It had been too long that I went without. It was time. This year, the amazing Chip over at The Cutting Zone in Kailua was going to be the artist.
I had met with Chip on Tuesday for a consult. He made sure to ask me about my hair expectations, what colors I had in mind, my habits, and hair care routines. As a responsible stylist, he checked out the status of my hair and told me his course of action to get to my goal. After coming to agreement on a plan, he scheduled me for Thursday. So fast!
I arrived early because Chip sent a text that he could take me earlier. He checked my hair again and briefly summarized what was going to happen. When I confirmed, he offered me water, then went straight to work on my hair. (Some background: my hair is damaged, but not extremely. I have been using a product called Ola-Plex 3 at home to try and repair my hair that I had sustained from frequent coloring and sampling an MLM shampoo product that didn't work for me.) He worked diligently on my hair. Chip was meticulous. The entire time, he kept up a good conversation and made me feel comfortable. I didn't even realize how much time had passed. (In no way am I saying that Chip was slow. What I needed to do to my hair without killing it was to lighten it as much as possible, slowly. Then we had to wash out the bleach. After that, my hair to be dried with cool air before applying the fun color, waiting, then rinsing it out. Throw in the shampoo, condition, and blow-dry, time can add up. BUT the results and the fact that I did NOT have to cut any hair off is testament to the stylist knowledge.)
After the final hair was dried, I finally got a good look in the mirror. It was so cool. My hair took on this purple/magenta holographic color. I can't describe it (see attached photo). I immediately felt lighter & happier!
What Chip gave me wasn't just a new do, he gave me back that lighter, happier feeling. This almost felt cathartic. The amount of work and effort that he put into this noggin was so appreciated. Before I left, Chip briefly touched on the next steps if I should decide to change colors. Wow! He was already looking ahead. Strategic planning - I love it!
What I can tell you is that I will come back to Chip at the Cutting Zone. His dedication to his craft is just wonderful. Why wouldn't I be back?
