Very good restaurant, we got several dishes that included the paella and the Cuban. Empanadas were good also .

Hands down one of the best experiences I have had during a meal. This is a delayed review as I totally thought I had posted it previously but it seems I hadn't. My partner and I came here a few months ago when restaurants were just starting to open back up from the lockdown. We were excited to support a local business and browsed the menu ahead of time to figure out what we would want. Upon getting seated and having the menu given, we were informed that they would be only having a limited menu due to the restrictions for dining. A bit bummed we started scouting the menu to see what we could still get. Unfortunately due to dietary restrictions none of the dishes would work however there were a few that with some slight modifications would be perfect! We asked the waitress if it were possible to change some items around and she was more than happy to find something that would work. She went back to talk to the chef and then came back out with a notepad. She asked us for all our dietary restrictions and then went back again to talk to the chef. A few minutes later she came out and presented to us a variety of options with modifications. Such spectacular service! We ended up ordering the Mojito Chicken without the rum and Gambas without the rice. Both dishes were also made with a few extra modifications to satisfy our dietary requirements. Now we were already impressed with the service before we even got the food - however the food was simply astonishing. Everything was cooked so perfectly. It was all so flavorful and filling. Every dish and side complimented each other so well! The chicken was so delicious and it's marination was one if the best I have ever eaten. Loved this place! The food was nothing but delicious, every mouthful was a party in my mouth We had the $70 tapas for two which consisted of 6 dishes. There was bread with two dips, garlic prawns, pork belly to die for, lamb, mushrooms with blue cheese and a medley of potatoes and chickpeas (plenty of food for two people). I could not disagree more with a previous reviewer! On first inspection the place looks a bit tacky, but the food is actually really good, way better than your average Gold Coast standard. I had the 'Ropa Vieja' (slow cooked shredded beef) and the Cuban cigars (lamb mince sticks) and they were delicious. The rum selection is also great but...no Cuban rum? What's up with that?? read more

What I had: ceviche, gambas, garbanzos, chicken mojito Ceviche was standard. Nothing great but not awful either. Instead of the usual hot plate on oil, their gambas had a creamy and buttery sauce. And instead of bread, it came with yellow rice and beans. This was great. Garbanzos was standard but because of the fresh ingredients used, it stood out as well. The chicken mojito was my main dish. It was absolutely the taste that I had in mind. Strong favors and a salad on the side to balance it out. Remarkable. The verdict: will definitely recommend. My friend and I visited the Cuban yesterday night, I bought an $18 dish, can't remember the exact name but it was lamb with orange slices. I've never felt so deceived by a restaurant. This was 3 small pieces of lamb that I could eat in less than a minute. I was charged $18 for a snack size meal. It was delicious, hence the two star rating, but the price was such a rip off. I'm a chef, I know how much this would've cost the business, and probably not more than two dollars for less than 100 grams of lamb. My friend got the nachos, that was actually a decently portioned size. But the nachos tasted soggy and burnt. Second, the table my friend and I were given was placed in a cramped corner of the restaurant right next to the waiters podium. The waiters kept passing me and breathing down my neck. I was treated like my company was not wanted. I have no idea why we were treated like that. I felt horrible. Lastly, the music was too goddamn loud. I couldn't even hear, or talk to, my friend, sitting right next to me. This was light a nightclub. If I wanted that experience, I'd just go to an actual nightclub. On the better side, the waiters were polite and the decor, that I could actually see since I was cramped in a corner, was pleasant. I have never been so disgusted with the prices I have been charged with. All I wanted was a nice meal that was worth the price. There's a lot of tapas restaurants in the Gold Coast that provide a cheaper price for a better meal. I will not recommend Cuban to anyone, and will obviously not be revisiting that restaurant. We have just spent a few hours at The Cuban having a girls lunch. All our food was lovely, the staff were friendly when approached. The only thing we would comment on was the music was too loud for lunch & we felt the staff could have been a bit more attentive. They were available when you called them over but seemed to leave you dangling for awhile. We ended up finishing off with coffee elsewhere as no one seemed interested in taking a coffee order. Again, the food was great & a good variety, staff just needed to be on the ball a bit more. We are local residents so they need to up the service a bit to keep the locals coming back. read more
