There is no sign about it at the door or anywhere else - no way to stay here without knowing about it. It is run by an old lady and very simple/old fashioned but clean. We had a room with it's own bathroom. The room had a queen size double and a single bed. There was a water heater with complimentary tea and coffee, no TV though. Operating the shower was an adventure in itself. It kept going from ice cold to burning hot. This B&B is comparably cheap, we payed just 42£ for the double room including breakfast.

Hotel was well located and quiet, a little off the busy street with stores and restaurants but still close enough to walk to Queens U, Ulster Museum, and the Botanic Gardens. Rooms are on the smaller side but have a bath tub and plenty of hot water which is always nice. Little fridge and a kettle provided. Front desk staff is very helpful. Breakfast was more delightful than expected with a full selection of cooked to order dishes as well as the usual fruit and croissants. Definitely worth staying next time I'm in Belfast.

Last weekend I stayed at the Dufferin Coaching Inn on High Street in Killyleagh. The boutique B&B,…read morewhich is celebrating 10 years in business, has recently undergone a £10K refurbishment and had just been named as one of the best places to stay to Ireland. Of course, with that accolade, I wanted to try it out! The seven-bedroom B&B is somewhat of an iconic building in Killyleagh, first serving as an Ulster Bank, with many of the stunning original features still very much in place.We arrived at around 3.30pm and were greeted by the owner Leontine, who gave us a quick tour of the house, including the living room complete with a roaring fire and the bright breakfast area, before showing us to our room. And what a room it was! We were told it is the most popular room because of its size, the large four poster bed and the bathroom complete with whirlpool bath! The deep red and cream colour scheme really complemented the original features, such as the window shutters. The room came with a range of toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities, as well as slippers and dressing gown! Bliss. The next morning we headed to the breakfast area and helped ourselves to the cold selection, which included cereal, freshly made bread and wheaten, fresh fruit salad and yoghurt. We were told to ring a bell if we wanted hot food and shortly after ringing the bell into the kitchen, a lovely lady arrived to take our order. Barry went for the full fry, while I choose sausage and egg. The side accompaniment of stacked up soda bread and potato bread was a great wee touch! Before checking out, I really wanted to see the B&B's connecting Dufferin Hall, as it was the part which had undergone the £10K transformation. (I was also intrigued because I recently got married myself and the Hall is known for its romantic wedding setting.) The hall was spectacular, with its stone steps and walls, and stained glass door panels. Do check it out if you're looking for a wedding venue with a difference! It was then time to check out and I was glad to get the chance to say goodbye to Leontine before we left. We had a nice night away and felt very at home. It's an historic building in the shadow of the beautiful Killyleagh Castle but it doesn't feel dated. The B&B is only 30 minutes away from Belfast so great for a short staycation!

Parking limited however a little trick is to leave car to car wash on main Lisburn road beforehand, just opposite Maryville Park for valet and collect it after. Parking issue solved.

The tea is all loose-leaf which I like better than the bags of tea so I was really excited about that. The breakfast was so good that we cleared it super fast--the Irish Breakfast and the Eggs Benedict. I think the sauce for the benedict is homemade as well because there was a mustard flavour in it that I am not used to. For afternoon tea we got sandwiches and scones (scones, by the way, are sitting on the first floor all day long so if you want one at 2am you can have one) and tones of cute desert items--meringue, two different types of cookies, and some moose. The staff were great and friendly and the whole place is very clean. If I come back to Belfast I would stay here again in a second!

I was very disappointed. We were greeted very nicely and given water. But when we got back from…read moredinner, there was nobody around! I had trouble with the WiFi, trouble with the TV, and trouble with the electrical power strip in the room so my phone and laptop never got charged. Everyone knows how much we rely on our phones for navigation and information when traveling! Plus, I was charged extra because we were in the "family room" because it was the only room they had left, not because I asked for it. Not a good experience.

So. Me and the boy were going to go to Stranraer to pick up a cat (long story. well not that…read morelong, but kinda irrelevant here. anyway.) and needed somewhere to stay overnight. We checked laterooms and found a couple of places - but plumped for this one on the basis of good reviews (particularly of breakfast) and the extra star in the rating. And I'm bloody glad we did. Stranraer itself is an odd kind of place, especially now that the ferry doesn't stop there anymore, but if you have any reason to be there and need somewhere to stay I'd heartily recommend staying here. Very comfortable bed, nicely furnished room, friendly (but not in that over-friendly way) owners, who were tremendously kind and cooked a damn fine breakfast. Flat screen tv in the room, nicely stocked hospitality tray and toiletries in the bathroom. Lovely fluffy towels, right temperature, immaculately clean and just overall very welcoming. One note - this is most definitely a NON SMOKING place. They're *very* strict on that. Which was fine with us! Lovely stay, would visit again.

What we found was this very friendly and relaxed place up the hill in a quite residential area just a few minutes away from the promenade, shopping streets and all the transport options. So it was not necessary to hire a car to start exploring the island from here. Our room was small but very well furnished with a big comfy bed, a very big window and a small bathroom. Everything was very clean but some fixtures could have been better applied. There is also a small TV but if you want a bigger screen there is also a TV Lounge with a huge TV and comfortable sofas on the first floor. Great Place for watching the Rugby World Cup ;-) Some rooms here have a communal bathroom and we had a chance to look at it - and honestly, it was brand new with a nice shower and toilet. Everything was spotlessly clean and very well maintained for shared facilities. A full cooked breakfast is included in the price and is served in the big breakfast room right next to the entrance. If you are no big fan of english sausages you can order a vegeterian version that comes with baked beans, hash browns, tomatoes and fried mushrooms. I really liked every part of it. Nothing fancy but a good start for the day. The owner of the Guest House is very friendly and uncomplicated. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it for anybody who wants a good value option in Douglas to explore the Isle of Man.
