If there is something that takes your fancy or you just need a hand choosing your latest and greatest cheese board. It's not the biggest shop in the world but sometimes good things come in small packages. Prices are middle of the road to high but you get what you pay for. It's always nice to get some good cheese and this is a great place to fulfil that need.

My favorite has always been the Garstang Blue its very mild in tasting not like most Stilton type cheeses. They also make some delicious cheese and onion pies on site and their blue cheese sausages just cant be resisted. I have given a 5 star review as in my opinion Dewlay tick all the right boxes. Quite how I managed to think that could happen in this small shop is unclear; you could barely fit the oompa-loompas in here, let alone the other bits. I recently visited the Cheese Centre again though and found it to be a lovely, family-run shop that has a brilliant selection of cheeses. Whilst I'm not a massive fan of cheese, even I was salivating whilst browsing all the different flavours they had, but with their products changing on a weekly basis I would definitely recommend you visiting the shop yourself to savour all of its delights. If by some chance you don't see a cheese that you fancy, the staff will also be more than happy to try and find it for you and order it in. As well as cheese, they also do hampers, specialist foods and a selection of cheesecakes (which is a lot more my thing) and I can confirm they are as delicious as the cheeses, with a light yet flavoursome consistency. The inside is small, no more than 8 tables - but I liked it. Warm, cosy and cute. They offer a fantastic little menu consisting of soups, sandwiches, salads and some special seasonal dishes - but we opted for some coffees instead, which were lovely. But this place is more than a cafe, The Cheese Yard also sells artisan cheeses that they buy from cheese makers all over then world, as well as and boutique wines, beers and ciders too. You can order a fantastic range of these cheeses to try with some lovely homemade chutneys and crackers. Alternatively, customers were popping in to buy selections of their favourite cheeses to take home. It really is a lovely place.

Many come from local suppliers. They claim to stock over 150 cheeses from all over the world, although I haven't tried to count them. Personal favourites include a heavenly camembert and the mature stilton. Prices are substantially below the eye-popping sums asked by the periodic French food markets held just outside on the Town Hall Square, so it's always worth visiting Kevin's stall first. The stall also sells butter, a good range of eggs, jams, pickles and preserves. Don't confuse it with The Cheese Shop on Northgate Street, the destination for small-scale specialist cheese sales. Shop here for your everyday produce. We have always been impressed by the quality of the produce, the good service and keen prices.

We only found out about this shop after paying in the carpark and getting a little ticket from the machine that says see the noticeboard for this months offers with this voucher. Where's the noticeboard? Nowhere, but there is a man in the little ice cream hut in the car park who knows what the offers are. £1 off a £10 shop in the cheese shop. WHAT CHEESE SHOP? The hunt is on.... Found it.... and it's amazing!! I think the best thing about this shop (apart from it bring 14degree inside and a million degrees outside) are the little hand written tags on all the cheeses saying who made them - the actual name of the person not just the farm, where it is made, the type of cheese and what kind of rennet, so easy for a veggie to pick from. The man who served us, Harry, was very knowledgeable about all the cheeses and we listened to him serving other customers while we decided what to buy. There were many other customers! A lovely little busy shop. We eventually decided on the most local Cheese made 2 miles away called Saint John (a smelly cheese similar to stinking bishop), the best goats cheese i have ever tasted called Prospect, a Red Leicester and a smelly blue. We ate them all with a load of fresh bread from the bakehouse next door....

They claim not to have changed the basic recipe in 100 years and you can really taste the difference! Truly the greatest pies ever tasted. The shop is a little old-fashioned and the food tastes like good, honest, homecooked goods. The cakes may not all be uniform in size - like those mass produced in factories for supermarkets - but nor do they taste like they have just rolled off a production line and into a cellophane wrapper. A selling point at Beans is the fill your own trifle dish. You take along your own trfle dish and they fill it with goegoeus jelly and custard goodness. What could be more simple or more tasty? Please don't be put off by the staff - you will NEVER see any of them crack a smile! It is a running joke with locals that if ever beans employs a happy, smiling new counter assistant the customers always mutter she won't last long. I've no idea why they are all so sullen but my grandad maintains that it has been like that ever since he was a boy - so maybe it is tradition now!
