I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. We have to go out to eat late for my brother's birthday and they were so kind and accommodating. We had a large group and the restaurant was spacious and we didn't feel cramped. They offer a salad bar with an entree which was very nice. The bread for the table is complimentary and it is phenomenal! Pro tip: ask for extra herb butter. It's a nice steakhouse so expect to spend around $50 per plate. The steaks we had were good though I think that it could have been seasoned a bit more. Overall I would definitely go back. read more

I've only been here for lunch, and got the soup & salad. The crab soup is what they are famous for and for good reason- it is delicious! The salad bar is fresh. The plates are a little small, but you can go up as many times as you wish. Staff treat you like you're at a fancy restaurant. Ambiance is classy, but you can wear jeans. I decided to make reservations at The Crowns Ember to celebrate my 1st wedding anniversary & I couldn't be more pleased with that decision. My wife & I were extremely impressed with our dining experience. There happened to be a bit of a crowd upon our arrival yet, the staff was quick to have us seated. Our server was charming & efficient, the gentleman who made our drinks was skilled & friendly. We both found the decor to be warm & elegant & the music playing added an extra touch of class. All of the things I've mentioned so far are reasons to dine here but let me get to the most important one...the food. Our steaks were amazing, we both had the ribeye steak & we both loved every bite!!! They were seasoned to perfection & extremely tender. Definitely one of the best steaks I've eaten. The steak tacos we delicious and had a sweet-savory taste that is like no other steak taco I've had before. The only downside was that the food took a really long time to come out and my fries were cold. The drinks were delicious but the star of the show was the salad bar! I really wanted to like this restaurant because I was a huge fan of the Crown Sterling, the restaurant this place took over, but it was obvious that either the owners, or the chef, do not care about the quality of the food they are serving. To be fair, I was there on a Sunday night on a holiday weekend, and I know from working in the restaurant business and in the food business for so long, that you do not order fish on a Sunday during a holiday weekend. I ordered the salmon which I think might have been good. Had it been fresh, but it was not fresh and it was on the cusp of expiration. I shared it with my sister, and of the five people that were dining that night, she and I were the only ones who became ill, and I attribute that to the salmon. A steakhouse should have nice, thick cut steaks, properly seasoned. The ribeye was maybe an inch thick and very fatty. It had good flavor, but it could have been better. The salad bar was great, fresh and offered a good variety of dressings. The dessert was a disaster. Their special was coconut cake, which I ordered (I am a self taught pastry chef who made a good living with my cakes and pastries). It was inedible because it was overly sweet and artificially flavored, which really came through. Then they served it to me covered in chocolate sauce. I did not order an almond Joy cake, I ordered coconut cake. I asked the waiter if they made their desserts in house and I begged him, before he started to speak, not to tell me that they do because it was obvious that they don't. He admitted that they bought it from a food supplier, it was previously frozen and thawed out, which there's nothing wrong with that, if the product is good. This was not. It was horrific. I recommended that they take it off of their menu and find a different supplier or have cakes made by any one of the many wonderful local pastry chefs in the area. No one at our table, finish their plates, or took anything home. I think the issue with this restaurant is a systemic one. This is a beautiful restaurant, stunning, actually, and their prices are in line with the aesthetics of the restaurant, but the quality is not. read more

INCREDIBLE!! He has been trying to get me to come here since it opened, and I am so upset I did not oblige sooner! I don't eat red meat, so I got the crab cakes, and honey, they were all crab, ZERO filler!! He said his steak was delicious and required no steak sauce. And I cannot leave out the salad bar! Wow, just wow! Such a fabulous dinner. My husband took me here for my anniversary and it was so elegant. Even the bread and dipping oil was so fancy and delicious. Our server was so nice and helpful and patient with us. The salad bar was really good. We both had the hosts choice and it did not disappoint! I had the filet and my husband had the ribeye. Not only was the food amazing but the presentation was amazing too. Everyone is so pleasant and it's a lovely environment. A word to managers and owners, when you do not reply to a bad review it tells me and the world that you just do not care. Several days with no response, speaks volumes of your customer care attitude. For the public: posted several days ago. Do watch your driving and parking. When entering from the side street, the parking lot may scrape your undercarriage, drive slowly. There is nothing in the place to recommend or justify the high cost. The service, not the seating nor the food. Offering lunch might be a good approach to get people in to check it out. They may see a way to come back after they win the lotto. read more

This is the best place I've been to in Lynchburg and surrounding areas, and I've been to my fair share. The service was perfect from refills to just conversation I felt very welcomed. The salad bar was nice, as well as the bread, it was very delicious! The entree just absolutely blew me away. The best meal I've ever had genuinely. I got the special (I believe it was a Bison New York Strip) and it had some caramelized onions and something else on there that I couldn't quite tell but all of the flavors complimented eachother perfectly. The steak was also cooked to perfection for mine and my uncles. For dessert I got the triple layer chocolate cake and that was phenomenal as well. This is my first time writing a yelp review because I could not help but express how much I enjoyed this place and how much I want other people in Lynchburg and the surrounding areas to as well. The vibe in here was very cool, the music selection was nice as well. The prices are obviously a little premium, but no higher than any of the nice steakhouses I've been to around the country. My fiancé some friends and I made reservations 15 days in advance for this restaurant, as we were really looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately, we waited over 30 minutes past our reservation time, the staff and general manager were unhelpful and came across as dismissive when we asked for assistance. The situation was never resolved, and we ultimately decided to leave. Additionally, parking was extremely difficult, which added to the overall frustration. Took my wife and another couple to dinner. All ordered steaks. My NY strip ordered medium rare, arrived well done. Everyone else's food appeared to be fine. By the time they brought a correctly cooked steak, everyone else had already completed their dinner. I just told him to box mine up, and I would take it to go. No concessions were offered by the manager when the bill arrived.....If you're looking to spend this kind of money at a restaurant in Lynchburg, I would suggest that there are better options. "Unexpected" may best sum up our first visit to TCE. An attractive building in an overlooked part of town. Swanky interior with most of the clientele matching its level of attire. Escargot is now on the menu. No designated bartender(s); servers made their own drinks. Covered, enclosed patio that isn't open as-of-yet. A rolling Whiskey cart for drink prep. A majority of the clientele may have been around during the early Crown Sterling years, yet younger couples did bring their well-behaved children. No windows to view the outside while dining / drinking; time slows down. Bathrooms with black toilets and smart mirrors. What I did expect: great service, reasonable prices, decent wine selection, delicious food & mixed drinks. My only criticism is that the kitchen should reduce its salt usage and management should reconsider under utilized areas such as the bar, lobby and patio. Lynchburg, show them some love! read more

Very disapointed! Had reservations and was seated promptly-May 3. The table was located in a high traffic area. It took a long time for the server to come to the table. She was plesant and took our drink orders. It took at least 30 minutes before our drinks were served and at that point I was told the IPA beer I ordered was unavailable. The lager she brought me (after the bartender said it was very good) was flat and undrinkable. The responser was "oh well, you know what you like". I was not offered any other options. The wine list absolutely terrible! The selections were 30$ undrinkable wines to over 200$ fair wines with nothing in-between. It took over an hour for our food to be delivered to the table! By that time it was cold. My salmon was overcooked but I was afraid to say anything as we had waited so long. Steaks arrived cold-good seasoningThere was a SALAD bar in a "upscale restaurant ". Who wants to carry a salad with high heels in a crowded and tightly packed table arrangement? The tables were so tightly packed that the assistant manager bumped into a member of our table as he was drinking his wine and he bumped his nose and teeth!!! The response was Oh sorry...... Oh did I tell you the prices?! Over 100$ dollars plus tips per person !!! 4 people shared 1 appitezer, 1 drink a piece, 1 bottle of red wine. No dessert. This restaurant is over priced with poor quality food and wine. There are many fine restaurants in Lynchburg but the Crown's Ember is not one of them. read more
