I occasionally work in Rockford and I've been coming to the Rockford Restore since they opened. This is the first time I've had a bad experience. Reading the other reviews, I see I'm not the only one who's had issues with their customer service. I get that they are mostly volunteer staffed, and volunteers cant be held to the same standards as paid employees, but you should know how to deal with people. First I asked about the price of an item that wasnt marked. I was told that I should have known what they cost, the same as all similar items. Ok, fine, moving on. I bought a bunch of items including a ceiling fan. After paying, I asked if they had a screwdriver I could use to disassemble the fan to fit it in my car. The woman working the register said she had no idea if they had one. So I went to the section where screwdrivers were for sale, took one out of the bin, and started disassembling the fan. The woman at the register literally started screaming at the top of her lungs that I needed to drop the screwdriver immediately, that they couldnt possibly sell it after I had touched it, what was I doing?! I mean literally screaming. At that point, if I hadnt already paid for my items, I would have just walked out.

Why? THE SMELL! For some reason, management decided that the store MUST smell like an over zealous teenage boy who loves his extremely overpowering cologne. You know the guy. You can taste the acrid air that surrounds him. Your eyes burn when you walk by him. The pungent miasma of cheap perfume sticks inside your nose for hours. All f the Goodwill stores in Rockford have become THAT guy. I feel sorry for the employees that have to work all day in the chemical s**tstorm all day. When I got home from my last visit, I had to take a shower to get that awful smell off my body. I had to put the item I purchased outside for days until the smell dissipated. Note to management, please, please, please stop using those automatic air poisoners. Many people are extremely sensitive to those smells and are avoiding the store because of that.

I flew in from San Francisco to Chicago, and drove to Rockford, IL in the morning to attend a Wedding Rehearsal & Dinner & Wedding (the following day). I bought a dress last minute, the day prior to my flight, and I could only zip up mid scapular region of my back. Despite all my methods to zip this beautiful dress, I could not. I knew I was going to need this dress to be tailored. The only issue was I needed a VERY fast turn around time, as I needed this dress to be ready by 4 PM the same day! I called about 10 minutes after they opened, explained my situation, and was asked to come in. Immediately I was greeting by the friendly faces working there! They took a look at my dress and gave me a solution. The prices & rush fee were EXTREMELY REASONABLE!!! My dress was done within 1 hour of me dropping it off. And I felt like a princess!! They did such an amazing job, and I would not hesitate to fly all the way from California to Rockford, IL to get any of my clothes tailored. That's how amazing the service was. I received so many compliments on my dress (a House of CB dress), and the alterations made only further enhanced the beauty of this dress. If you are in need of alterations, I beseech you, GO TO SIMPLE STITCHES!!!! Oh, and by the way, if I want to remove the alteration, I can do so without any damage to the dress! The cashier said it has to go back to processing and they're gone for the day, so I couldn't buy it. I could try back the next day and see if it was still there, they can't hold it. The manager overhead and came out and took the dress to the back and came back five minutes later with a price tag on it. She took an extra step and made sure I got the dress. I felt she needed to be acknowledged because she could've just ignored it but she didn't. They have a great employee in her, I wish I had gotten her name!
