A fantastic fruit and veg stand with predominantly local (AB & BC) produce, DJ's has everything at very reasonable prices. I asked them if they had access to local chickens - within a few weeks, they had fresh Hutterite chickens. I also love the fresh farm eggs and cheap, cheap fresh herbs. If you do any canning, soup/pie making, or love mojito's - who doesn't? (Bags of mint for $1.49) DJ's is the place to go. Often, they will have weekly specials and sell cases of berries, peaches, etc. This is a family business and they are very pleasant to deal with. Any time I've ever asked them if they have something, they'll either get it for me, or let me know why they don't have it and when I can expect it. I have many years of taste testing experience so if you need any quality control on your creations, I can pop over and provide this valuable community service for you. 7/30

First time I've been to a Farmers Market indoors. This place majorly reminds me of Granville Island…read morePublic Market in Vancouver. It really has that same kind of feel. Indoor place with lots of food vendors and different knick knacks selling here and there. I ended up at Analog Coffee. It's a favorite of my friend whom I was visiting. I had a Hojicha Latte and we shared an Almond Croissant. Amazing how full a person can get on one drink and half a croissant. There are so many different options in this place. Wish I'd had more time, room in my stomach and room in my wallet to try more but this was the morning of my last day in Calgary. The one stall that really peaked my interest was a Vegan stall that had all sorts of Vegan options including frozen ones that you could bring home and put in your freezer. Frozen vegan Congee really caught my attention. I don't know anywhere in Vancouver that sells that! The stall was called Hearts Choices. They were offering samples of their product. They all seemed to be Thai flavors of soup and sauces. Everything I sampled was sooooo good. Wish they would open up in Vancouver. I was really curious about their frozen congee. If I lived in Calgary I would have definitely bought one and brought it home with me. Oh, I really wanted to try their Vegan Mac n Cheese but it comes with a slice of toast and there was no room in my tummy for all that as I'd already filled up on Hojicha Latte and Almond Croissant. I also saw a crepe place in the market that I'd have also loved to try and well...lots of other stalls as well. So many interesting food options here. Gonna have to spend a bit longer here next time!

There was all kinds of food and even a lady who could really get your juices flowing. For real! Over by the back counter, they sell freshly made carrot, beet and apple juice. If you want your own jug of just carrot juice because you don't see any in the fridge, no problemo! Just ask and it shall be yours. I wandered the aisles for awhile with my little roller plastic basket. They've got lots of 'em, you can use one too. I piled it up with purple potatoes (making a purple stew, whip-whip, whip-whip), roma tomatoes, shallots, avocado, mangoes, and cabbage. Not to worry, I didn't use that all in one dish, although random ingredients from the farmers market could make for a fun cooking experiment. In total, $27.32. A little shocked at the final tally, I must say. I thought it was going to be more! Except it wasn't. I'm now under the impression that produce from the farmers market is cheaper (and waaaaay more full of nutrients, although that's gotta be a given) than whatever stuff I buy at the grocery store. And the little lady at the other end who's lineup I went to in order to get all that yumminess weighed and pay for my food stuffs, lovely. April Underdog Challenge: 10/30
