Across the street from our Calgary office, when I work in Calgary, it's my first choice for lunch to call and order the Ploughman's lunch made with gluten-free crackers. Always assembled with your choice of deli meat or pate - it's a tough choice! They include some olives, cornichons, beautiful soft cheese, hard cheese, dried fruits and another condiment ... sometimes the sweetie peppers that are my favourite. You can't eat all of it in one sitting! I have for back and bought so many cheeses when having it in my lunch. Bleu, Brie and they have all been amazing!! They even carry a small selection of fresh grocer items like lettuce, tomato, onion etc. giftware, baskets and a deli selection as well as offering catering... do not hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing something to impress family or guests! Staff are always super helpful when choosing selections. Having a wine store next door is ideal convenience. read more

This shop has a great selection of cheeses and a knowledgeable and helpful staff! I'd definitely return if I lived in the area.

Snobby and unwelcoming, even the products aren't enough of a saving grace. Just walk across the street for better variety and service.

Absolutely incredible cheeses and meats (Le Dauphin is the best Brie I've ever had). Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable and made the whole experience pleasant. Will definitely return! read more

Looked forward to finally stopping in - very underwhelmed. The staff were not friendly and I felt very rushed to make decisions. As a result, my selection of cheeses was also underwhelming. Will not return. read more

A+ food. excellent people. great artisanal cheese and sandwich shop. great prices as well. would definitely come back.

Very unpleasant at Peasant. Although it looks nice on the surface, the people inside are not. While I was there, not only did the dim light make it a challenge to see inside the charcuterie case to identify items, the high volume music coupled with necessary masking made communication with the insecure employee difficult. She caught her own overcharge for items but her curt supervisor was unhelpful. Even if the $60 of cheese and meats are delicious I will NOT spend my time nor money in there again. read more

A fine cheese shop next to Kensington Wine Market? Talk about a pairing! Ladies and gentleman, you've just found your one stop shop for classy, drunk adult entertainment. What do I know about cheese? Well, I know that I think it's delicious and I know that I think it's delicious with wine and that is about it. Luckily for me, places like Peasant cheese shop exist so I can walk in feeling like a total cheesy newb and leave feeling like an over-the-top cheesy rock star! I strolled in nonchalantly a few minutes before they close and the lady working there ( the owner, perhaps?) dropped everything she was doing to help me find the cheese of my dreams. She knew the right questions to ask a a beginner, who appreciates cheese, but is still inclined on occasion to straight up eat Kraft Singles from the package. Don't judge me. She asked me about the kind of wine I was going to have and eagerly offered up samples that she thought would make a good pairing. Holy cow (cheese) was she right! I served up my bleu cheese, french cheese, belgian cheese and I don't even know what else cheese on my custom Yelp cheese board (no big deal) and went to town! If I had one criticism of Peasant Cheese Shop, it would be that their cheese is too tasty and I wound up drinking WAY too much wine to go with it. This headache is on you, Peasant cheese. :P read more

Heads up everyone: you do not have to come here only for cheese, they will make you a sandwich! Peasant doesn't advertise a lunch menu so I'm not sure how my friends found out about this. For all I know they wander into every Kensington business and say, "make me a sandwich!" and see who takes them up on it. In any case, you can go into Peasant and ask them to make you a sandwich and they will. And it will be delicious. Tell them exactly what you would like, or better yet, tell them you trust their judgement and they will throw together something wonderful for you. I can't remember exactly how much it was, maybe $8-$10 which I would say is competitive with other businesses in the area, including Peppino's across the street. As of yet I have had a few Peasant Cheese Shop sandwiches but never actually bought their cheese itself. Ha! What a great addition to Kensington! read more

I've been coming to Peasant Cheese more often for parties and date night. Great selection, excellent presentation, personable service and really reasonable pricing. They do a great job catering too. I'm looking forward to ordering their raclette for a dinner soon. read more

I'm a big fan of this place! Having lived in Montreal for five years, I am accustomed to a lot of fine cheese shops. Calgary has an extremely sparse selection. So when Peasant Cheese opened up in my 'hood, I was stoked. The first time I randomly walked in there to check it out, I was super impressed. I was ooh-ing and ahh-ing over all the cheese, and the staff was so friendly they even offered to let me try a bit. They shaved off two fine slices of a store favourite - a goat cheese from Spain called Guaraxa - and handed them to me and my friend. DELICIOUS! I promptly bought a small portion of it to take home while the guy at the store chatted with us about the cheese they import. All great quality, mostly from Europe, especially Spain. Peasant Cheese has all kinds of unique cheeses at a reasonable price, and it's a real treat walking in there. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and offer suggestions when you ask for it. They even have a ton of condiments that they will gladly pair with the type of cheese you're buying. This weekend, do this: go to Peasant Cheese one evening, pick up a cheese, ask them to match a condiment with it for you, then hop on over next door to Kensington Wine market for a bottle that will complement your cheese (When in doubt, ask.) Take your goods home, lay it out all pretty and bask in the feeling of grown-up indulgence that only good quality wine and AMAZING cheese can provide. read more

Do yourself a favour, go here and get a sandwich, immediately! The bf and I stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon and were warmly welcomed by the staff. This is a cheese shop and deli primarily but you can get a choice of 4 sandwiches or a ploughmans lunch if you are looking for something to eat. I got the ham and cheese and the bf got the salami and cheese and MY GOODNESS! SOOOOO GOOD. The bread was fresh fresh fresh and the sandwiches were just delicious. Amazing cheese, freshly sliced meat, incredible. The salami had an olive spread on it that just took it to the next level. The ham and cheese had a wonderful grainy mustard. I can't wait for another sandwich from here. So good. read more

Best cheese shop in YYc. A big selection of cheese from France, Quebec. They know their stuff.

I ordered one of these meat and cheese trays (about $40) to celebrate our anniversary at home. It was very reasonable considering it would cost almost the same to purchase all of the ingredients and it saved me the time of assembling and making it pretty. We would definitely order it again. They're pretty good and I don't think they need that much advance notice. read more

Peasant Cheese Shop - $50 meat and cheese - Cheese Shops Near Me - Calgary, Alberta

Amazing. More affordable than you think and the service is great. My go to cheese shop. Their soft cheeses cannot be beat.

Lovely cheeses and meats and such lovely staff. A little pricy but it is a specialty store. Most cheeses and meats are very fairly priced, a few are on the pricier side. If you want to serve a unique charcuterie with a little more flavour go here! Try 'the sexy cheese'! To die for! read more

They wouldn't pick up their phones and made it impossible to place an order for a cheese/meat plate. Don't recommend giving them your business because they don't seem to care about customer service or taking orders. I give them two stars because their cheese could very well be good but I'll never know since they didn't bother to pick up the three times I called or return the voicemail I left 3 hours ago! read more

Wow! Very impressed with this wonderful cheese shop in Calgary. As I walked in I felt like I was back in Paris. The fresh bread and the many different types of cheese made my heart sing. There were tons of different charcuteries and other snacks and jellies you could purchase. I headed straight for the cheese. The staff here are extremely helpful and knowledgeable with all the different types of cheese! I was so happy with my picks and for the price I paid I would say I definitely received a healthy amount of delicious cheese! This place makes the grocery store look bad. We enjoyed our cheese on a quiet evening at home and I was glad I had wandered in for a fresh baguette and delightful cheese! read more

This is the very best place in Calgary when you want an elegant, classy, delicious appetizer to share with guests (or for a romantic evening at home). The staff is knowledgable, friendly, and incredibly helpful. Don't be intimated if you know nothing about cheese! Just say, "make us something beautiful" and tell them the amount you want to spend. I've never shopped anywhere in Calgary where I've felt so welcome and so happy as a customer. The team is amazing! read more

The best!! As good as it gets. This is the closest thing to living in France, where there are amazing Cheese Mongers all over the place. The owners and staff are passionate about cheese and really know their stuff. My favourite small business in Calgary without a doubt. James read more

Amazing cheese shop! If you are looking for a good bang for your buck, I recommend getting their 35$ charcuterie board for two.

Conveniently nestled right next to a wine shop, you'll find the Peasant cheese shop on Kensington Rd, across from Peppino's. We ventured in on a wonderful, sunny Sunday a few days ago... I don't know much about cheese, but I can tell you the two recommended cheeses we took home were gone within minutes, not to mention delicious! Service was more than friendly, and I would gladly recommend the shop to any cheese lovers and foodies I know (and now on here as well). Tasty, friendly and surprisingly affordable - is the way I would describe this shop. I'd love to hear what everyone else's cheese suggestions would be, for the next time we head down :) read more

I have had an excellent going here from the very beginning! They are Super helpful, I was comfortable asking all of my questions and trusted their expertise after trying their recommendations based on what I told them I liked. We purchased the largest platters of cheese and meat for our wedding and not only did they take notes of all our favorite cheeses and olives, they provided pretty wood planks to serve it on, threw in some bar towels and were very relaxed about getting the planks back. I love going there and actually getting to taste the cheese before making my decisions. Its a great place, can't wait to go back for the olives alone! read more
