Creperie on Ludlow St came up in my search and we happened to be down that way on Sunday. I'm also a huge ice cream and gelato fan, but husband is lactose intolerant so he prefers non-dairy. Last year we discovered the amazing vegan ice cream at Orchard Grocery, but I wanted the real thing this trip and he apparently hadn't wanted a frozen treat at all so wouldn't do Orchard Grocer for himself and a different place for me. Happy medium? Share a good crêpe! We found it at Crêperie. SO many choices, many similar to ones we loved in France. Extensive selection, but it didn't take long to decide on the apple-walnut-caramel crêpe to share, costing not much more than 2 ice creams. We watched the lone young man as he poured batter onto the round griddle to just the perfect thinness; as he expertly flipped it; as he loaded on plenty of apple compote, plenty of walnuts, and gently squeezed caramel sauce. Then he folded it into a neat rectangle, scooped it into an exactly the same size pan, flipped the whole thing over onto another griddle and left it to heat while he made a crêpe for the person behind us. At exactly the right moment (was he watching the clock? or maybe he's just THAT good!), he flipped it over, slid the crêpe onto a plate, artistically drizzled more caramel sauce on top and then gently shook some powdered sugar over it. Handed me 2 forks and knives and we sat on stools at the counter for our Sunday afternoon treat! Excellent! They have several savory crêpes (in Paris, those were usually buckwheat crêpes called galettes) and many sweet ones. Unfortunately it's more of a takeout place, with just the few stools at a counter inside, and a couple of small tables outside. I'm still looking for a genuine Parisian-style restaurant with a good selection of galettes and crêpes - but this was a great find and I definitely recommend it to you!

We had a memorable focaccia with an artichoke, mint spread and aromatic oil for the table. We could not get enough of it and asked for more bread to polish off the spread. We each chose the three course lunch which was a good value given you have three tastings. The first course was the polenta arrosto e ragu di funghi. Savory funghi with a pecorino cream served over two generous pieces of polenta. The rosemary and black pepper really stood out. I just wished there was more cream. Then for the pasta course, it was a combination of beef and pork ragu over cavetelli. I love dishes that mix the meats, gives it an elevated finish and you can taste the difference. Cavatelli was perfectly al dente. Final course was the entree. I chose the grilled branzino and it had a really nice crisp skin. Not greasy, just lightly seared to crisp. The fish was served fillet style with butternut squash ragu and smoked mashed potatoes. Both sides were smooth and very buttery in taste. Very flavorful. I just wished the texture was a little different given both were soft vegetables as presented. There was no room for dessert but we did peruse the Eataly market place and looked at the variety of chocolates on our way out. A totally fun place to explore and to pick up groceries or a quick bite (there are little pockets of seating throughout if you do not want table service).

Been stopping by here for the last 10 years or so during afternoons, mainly during the weekdays, to pick up something authentically Italian- like a cheese, pasta, prosciutto, or a take out gelato. It has been getting more and more popular to the point that the touristy crowd and the staff are somewhat pushy and arrogant( yes, even for a Manhattanite) and really taking the fun out of hanging out, shopping, or people watching. BTW, there are two awesome dog runs across the street in Madison Square Park. Thinking next time will just go to my local salumeria and call it a day and skip the aggravation and pricey products.

After patronizing the restaurant for few years, for the first time I sat at a different table. As I was about to ask to it at my usual table, I figured try something new to view the restaurant in a new vantage point. The melodic instrumental upbeat jazz music sets the mood. This time I noticed for the 1st time there is a tapestry on the wall near my usual seating. Hadn't noticed it before. Also, noticed the outdoor garden seating area. Ambiance is still cozy, casual and warm. The food par usual is delightful. Bountiful, with varied notes and flavorful is the Cassoulet Toulousain with a side of spinach. It's a winner every time. I swear the next time I am going to try another dish but why mess with perfection. I opted for a zero proof house made Natural Hibiscus Ginger drink and water. Service is always A+ with Christoph.

The cozy, bistro like dining room is in the back of the storefront. The menu offers up familiar dishes (escargot, onion soup, mains, savory and sweet galettes and crepes): we split an order of escargot, bouef bourguignon, and a galette with chicken, walnuts, goat Cheese, and emmenthaler The "escargot" (broiled oyster mushrooms in a garlic plant butter sauce) didn't hold together, but were tasty nonetheless. The "beef" came as cubes of a pea protein based vegan meat in a fantastic, richly spiced red wine sauce with fingerling potatoes and carrots, while the Mr Seguin galette was an excellent buckwheat crepe with pea protein chicken, walnuts, agave syrup, "goat cheese", and a coconut based emmenthaler. Combined with friendly, knowledge service: this is absolutely a destination for an upscale vegan meal And: the bakery at the front isn't to be missed - a selection of "buttery" pastries and cookies are out on display
