I only found out the next morning when I reviewed our front door camera footage and realized our dog had been alone since 7pm the night before. I had to leave a note in the app before anyone reached out to us. When the owner finally called to apologize, I asked why we weren't contacted as soon as the issue came up. His response was, "we're not open during those hours." I'm still not sure what that means for a pet care company. If you're taking responsibility for someone's pet overnight, there is no "closed." To his credit, the owner stepped in personally to cover the rest of the wknd, but by that point the damage was done. Our dog had been alone for over 12 hours. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if we didn't have exterior cameras or happen to check them that morning. We got lucky, and we shouldn't have had to be. The whole situation was incredibly stressful and affected our entire trip. The owner comped the one night, but charged full price for the rest of the wknd. Honestly, given everything that happened, I would have expected the whole stay to be taken care of. If you need a sitter you can count on, especially for overnight stays, I'd look elsewhere. Peace of mind is the whole point, and we didn't have it.

Now, completely untrained new hires are being brought in and told they'll be managing, despite having zero experience with dog behavior or daycare safety protocols. It's incredibly unsafe--for both the dogs and the staff. The owner takes no responsibility for training or preparing new employees. There's no onboarding, no walkthrough of fight protocols, and no clear procedures for how to handle emergencies. He also underpays OG staff yet new hires with zero experience are brought in above them. This is no longer a place I would trust with my dog's safety. Until there's a serious change in leadership and training, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

I was never a fan of traditional boarding, having them locked up in a kennel or crate all day with little to no attention and the sound of constant barking, which is what led me to first search for an alternative and discover BarkPDX. I LOVED the idea of allowing our dogs to stay in their home with someone coming in to care for them. Yes, the idea of a stranger in our home felt a little weird but only until we met him. I adored Ozzy instantly and knew we were in good hands, and he's proven me right every year since. The dogs took to him immediately and you can tell he genuinely cares about them - their safety, health, happiness, and well being. He takes them on walks, gives them their meds, plays with them, and he's even helped us through TWO dog medical emergencies when we were out of town. What's more, we always know what's going on thanks to the regular updates, pictures, and texts which gives us peace of mind. He shared notes on what they were up to each day and I honestly could not ask for better care for my fur babies. I can't say enough good things about Ozzy and BarkPDX.
