We stayed for one night and loved it. It was beautiful, clean, and quiet -- everything we ask for. I took the opportunity to do laundry -- it was free and detergent, etc. was supplied. A small thing, but it suggests that the host has considered the guest's needs. Speaking of the host -- she was very helpful and considerate. We had no complaints whatsoever. Loved this place!!! Come here to a clean household. Run by an Asian couple, you will take off your shoes in the front. They have a large living room area for you to enjoy some tea. There's also a shared kitchen. We stayed in the main suite on the bottomr floor. It had a queen bed in the bedroom and a sleep sofa in the living room. It also has a kitchenette in there as well. Our view of the room outside was behind the castle. It was beautiful! Loved the experience. Oh and there is a tub in the restroom along with a shower. Thank you for a wonderful night :) read more

This was our third stay this year, first in February, then October, and now November. Our stay all 3 times has been fantastic. We are actually Victoria residents ourselves, living just a few blocks away in Fernwood. Our first stay was for our very short honeymoon, but the subsequent trips are just because we love the place so much! The bottles of wine in our suite on our first and third visits were a nice addition. The staff is all incredibly friendly, polite, caring, and helpful. We enjoy talking to them. A huge kudos to all of the Craigmyle staff. We will be back! You should try it. read more

We were looking forward to this B&B and from the outside, it looked smashing. However, when we got into our room, there was a plate on the dresser with a note in a silver frame. It said, "Thank you for the tip." How tacky is that? I was just flabbergasted. Now, the decor in the lobby and sitting room was nice, the bed in our room was comfy and the breakfast was good. However, in a place trying for a classy Olde English ambience, asking for a tip is just downright rude. When we came back to our room in the afternoon (we were staying two nights), our bed was not made up and we had no fresh towels. Here is the exchange between me and the concierge. Me: "Why wasn't our room made up?" Concierge: "We don't do housekeeping on a daily basis. It says so on our website." Me: "I see. Yet you are so bold as to ask for a tip on a card in our room." Concierge: "You have no right to talk to me like that." Me: "I have stayed in hotels and B&Bs in several European countries as well as Canada and the US. I have NEVER had someone ask me for a tip for cleaning my room. It is just tacky." Concierge: "You can talk to Heather if you like. She will be here later." Me: "I am talking to you now. You are a representative of the company." Concierge: "I am sorry. I can get you some fresh towels if you like." Me: "Yes. that will do." Now, to be fair to the concierge, it does say no housekeeping on the website. Since I did not book the reservation, I did not know that until she told me. So, my mistake on that one. However, it is still tacky to put a sign in your room begging for a tip. Fer chrissakes, this is Canada, where they have a viable economic system that provides good wage jobs for most people and a viable social system that takes care of its people. It is NOT the US or some Central American country, where housekeepers are exploited like slaves. I am still appalled. So, be aware there is no housekeeping and expect to see the "tip card" in your room. You might like it though because of the other good things they do, like the breakfast. read more

I stayed there for 4 nights ,I read others reviews and was not as impressed. You never see employees even though it states there is someone there 630am to 6pm. The heat in my night room did not work so my stay was Nov and I was cold. outlets in room inaccessible,No one mentioned you could park at the castle when they were closed were , told street parking .I asked if there was TV and WiFi and was told yes but they did not mention only available in 3 rooms and mine was not one of them. Having said that rooms were neat and clean and in a quiet older neighbourhood. read more

Nice place, overall very clean, but a couple big detractors; very dirty shower curtain liner and black mold in shower. Also, we caught one of the workers smoking on the porch, the worker attempted to run away as we approached but the smoke lingered by the door but times. It's a nice spot and these would be easy fixes. read more

This heritage B&B is very charmingly decorated. The innkeeper is extremely attentive and approachable. Important to know that being a heritage building there are no elevators and lots of stairs. Tall people need to be aware of low doorways. The heating system is old and the main floor is comfortable but the upper floors can be very warm. Breakfast is served from 0700-1000 on the main dining room. The food is self service and very fresh and tasty. Dietary needs are also there with gluten free breads. There is also a guest kitchen where people can prepare their own food throughout the day. If you're looking for a charming Victorian house to stay at, then consider The Craigmyle. I seriously loved this place! My friends and I rented two suites; the master suite and the garden suite. Both of them had great bathrooms and a lovely ambience. The kitchens were great too! The garden was absolutely charming in the garden suite, and the view from the bedroom in the master suite of the castle was so romantic! The inn keepers were so sweet and the breakfast was divine. The grounds were lovely and the house was gorgeous. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! read more

If you are traveling to Victoria, there is no better place than the Craigmyle. I stayed here for 5 nights recently during a particularly hard time. I was visiting my Grandfather who was in the local hospital, and the team were amazing in extending my stay without hassle, checking in to see if we needed anything, and the manager even personally drove my Aunt to the hospital to get her there in time for my Grandfather's last hours. As far as the amenities go, this is such a great place; the rooms are clean and comfortable (the beds and pillows are so comfy!), the check in process was so easy regardless of the time you chose to arrive, and the common area (living room, fireplace) is so inviting. Breakfast each morning was everything you'd need; cereal, toast and bagels, fresh fruit and yogurt - I left each morning very satisfied with a full belly. I would highly recommend the Craigmyle for families, couples or a single traveler. read more

It is a hotel with breakfast... not a B&B in the traditional sense, as many people are made to believe. It was build as a hotel and it is still run as a hotel. This I was told after I falsely thought it to be a private run B&B. I guess I did not do my homework... That said, the building is historic and beautiful, as is the interior of the house. The sitting room is comfortable with plenty of cushy seating options and complementary tea, coffee, water, cookies. Soft music is playing. Very nice but it did get a little chilly in the evening and I don't think you can turn on the beautiful fireplace. We at least couldn't figure out how... Our room was the standard queen with bathroom, quite small but tastefully decorated. You have a closet for your clothes and suitcase/bags and a small drawer in the nightstands. Water in the sink did not really get hot but the shower was working fine. This room is located on the top floor and, as noted on the website, there is no elevator. There are a lot of steps on this property, be aware! The main grievance to me was the bed (and as such a star reduction). Yes - an important one! It was comfortable BUT every time you sat down or got up from the bed, every time you turned around it made horrible squeaky noises, which would then of course wake up my daughter next to me. And it's not an historic bed frame, it's just a springbox and mattress!! It's a continental breakfast. To be fair, it is a plentiful breakfast with lot's of offerings from bagels to toast, cold hard boiled eggs, yogurt and fruit, granola and cereal and cake. I was just, as many other customers, misled that this is a B&B with freshly, extravagantly prepared hot breakfast and not a serve-yourself, cold, continental breakfast. The other star reduction is for the parking. I understand that the hotel is located in a (beautiful) residential area and there is nothing they can do about that but there is not even a place to pull up to unload. As such you either have to double park and quickly unload your car, have a family member guard your things while you then park somewhere nearby or if you are alone park and carry your belongings back to the hotel. And then the climb up the many stairs begins... If you do not have a car be aware that the hotel is located too far away to walk to downtown attractions, if you do have a car you will have to deal with pricey and limited parking downtown. Maybe Uber....? To conclude: this place is beautiful, clean and a good price with a cold but plentiful breakfast. Parking and location is not that great if you are mostly interested in main attractions in the harbor area but ok and safe if you are exploring all of Victoria and surrounding by car. A wonderful English Bed & Breakfast that's quiet and located in a residential neighbourhood just 5 minutes drive to all the wonderful restaurants and shopping downtown. We stayed there in August 2008 and it was wonderful. The host has that wonderful English wit and makes a great breakfast for you in the morning. This was a wonderful peaceful place to stay in a wonderful treelined setting. There's a wee kitchen downstairs to make a cuppa for yourself if you need one. He was almost sold out and we were 3 women and booked the only rooms he had left which were 3 singles, 2 of us had no bathroom in the room but we did have a sink and our own shower/toilet down the hall that was assigned to our rooms only and we had a key for it so no one else could use it, that I liked. One of us had the last single room with a private bath. I really enjoyed it here and will be back. This is a husband and wife run bed& breakfast and they live in the house next door. There's a front porch to sit and have a cuppa and read a magazine and also a patio in the back yard with seating and an umbrella. Highly recommended. The Craigmyle B&B was a lovely stay- The room was very clean, and newly-renovated. The two gentlemen who are running it for the summer were lovely, and very helpful. I was traveling alone, and ended up meeting other guests while I was at there who were awesome people that will probably come to visit me in my hometown. The place itself is only a 15 minute walk from the center of the harbor, and very conveniently located close to a drug store, gas station, and the Government House, which is a lovely 5-minute walk away, and definitely worth checking out. I checked out one of the bikes and ended up seeing much of the city that way, which was a great idea. If I could improve one thing, I would just put some soap in the bathroom, or letting potential guests know that they will have to bring their own. It was a bit of an inconvenience, but otherwise, this is a great place and definitely makes for a good stay. read more

Good value for a decent room. The Inn is further away from downtown but it is located in front of the Craigdarroch Castle. There is a nice view of the castle from the Westside windows of the Inn. The rooms were small but the bed was really comfortable. The check in and out process were different from other inns. They put your key in an envelope in the mailbox at the entrance when you arrive and when you leave, you place your key in a jar. No need to check out with the staff or proprietor, you just come and go at your leisure. They do lock the entrance door in the evening time. Make sure you have your key with you. On the keychain you have two keys. One key for your room and one for the front door. Don't lose it! When I was visiting they were remodeling. A lot of the features in the rooms are older and out of date, but functional. Be aware that the fan and light for the bathroom use the same switch and are set on a timer. The fan is not strong enough so open a window or two to vent the steam from the shower. They still have a lot of remodeling to go, but the new renovations look great. Also, if you plan to stay multiple nights, the maid won't come to straighten up your room and towels will not be refurbished. Keep that in mind while staying longer than 2 days. They serve a nice continental breakfast from 6am to 10am in a very cute English style dining area. Would recommend to the traveler looking for a comfy bed and romantic castle views. read more

This is a pleasant B&B in an excellent location, although far from the tourist attractions near the Inner Harbour. But it has some drawbacks that will prevent us from staying again. First is the parking situation. Although the Craigmyle claims to provide "free on-site parking" no such thing exists. There is no vehicle access to the property at all, so if you are driving, keep that in mind. To aggravate the situation, daytime street parking is restricted to residents who have registered their vehicle with the city, so you risk a parking ticket if you park nearby. Once you have parked, you will have to lug your luggage down the street and then up several flights of stairs just to reach the door. If you leave and return in the evening, it is likely you will find no parking anywhere near the place, and may have to leave your vehicle several blocks away and walk. They use a self-serve check in system that relies on guests receiving an email with a code to access a lock box. But we received no such email from them, and had stand outside trying to reach the owner on a cellphone. Once inside we discovered that there is no staff on site -- just guests fending for themselves. Because there is no staff, rooms are not made up. There is no one to make the beds, supply clean towels or replenish bathroom supplies. (If you need them, you will have to go out and buy them yourself.) The Craigmyle bills itself as an "English bed and breakfast." We have stayed at B&Bs all over England and have never encountered one that didn't provide a hot breakfast. We were very disappointed to find a breakfast of cereal, toast and bagels, particularly since one of the cereal dispensers was empty and there was no one there to refill it. One of the attractions of B&Bs is the friendly receptions you usually get from the operators. We never saw the operator of this place. It seems they run it by remote control. Possibly the oddest B&B we've ever stayed at. If you aren't driving, don't mind your room not being made up, are OK with a miniature bathroom and like toast for breakfast, by all means stay here. The price is reasonable at least. Otherwise, there are far better choices in Victoria. read more

My apologies to Mr. Pace for neglecting this review for so long, but I'll soon find myself back in Victoria and have every intention of calling and making a new reservation. I traveled to Victoria last fall with my sister and our elderly father, and stayed at Craigmyle for a couple of days while we were in Victoria. Each of us had our own room with en suite bathroom (including shower); the rooms and bathrooms were very clean, the check-in/out was very easy and fast, and the location is close to downtown and other areas of interest, and free wi-fi is provided (ask at the front desk for the password). Dad was literally the first one up in the morning, so he waited a bit for the hot water to get going for his shower, but it really wasn't a big deal and I think you can (and should) expect that sort of thing with a building of such character. The breakfast we were provided was outstanding, and we had the opportunity to visit with some other guests seated at our large table. It was a very convivial atmosphere, added to by Mr. Pace and his excellent conversation. One other great thing worth mentioning -- although there were rooms on either side and across the hall, I never actually heard anyone stirring. Also, parking was a breeze because Mr. Pace mentioned that his guests are allowed to park overnight in the lot for Craigdarroch Castle, which is just behind Craigmyle and just a short skip down the sidewalk. All this to say that I'll be calling for reservations very soon. :) read more

This is a slice of heaven! The Craigmyle has recently redecorated a good percentage of the rooms in this beautiful old mansion. Though there are suites and larger rooms, we opted for a small room,as we were looking for something within our budget, and we got more than we bargained for. Lovely newly tiled shower and separate toilet and sink! Fresh modern feel to everything in the room. A lot of charm here. And, some chocolates placed in the room made us feel like someone wants us to enjoy our stay ;-) Be sure to ask if your room is redecorated, if you like that modern boutique hotel charm as some rooms have not been redone. So, the next morning, pleasant surprise : well attended breakfast, above and beyond the often under-provided "continental breakfast" a lot of B&Bs offer. Cereal, pastries, good coffee, nice teas, fruit,etc. And, such pleasant hosts too. Nice dining area, and living commons are comfortable and elegant. Did I mention that this place is in the backyard of Craigdarroch Castle? Gardens surround, and this is a nice neighborhood. This is important, as you will park on the street if you have a car, and parking for residents (that's you) is on Craigdarroch Rd. One could walk here, if you like walking, which we do. We wanted to be near Fort St., which is "Antique Row" and check out the stores, and it is a great place to leave your car, and walk to the downtown. It's about a half hour saunter to downtown.
