There is history all over the walls, and you can see this is a beloved family run institution. That immediately made me feel good. Everyone in the store is also extremely friendly and helpful, the service is top notch. I had signed up for an appointment for a fitting, and I had a very specific suit color in mind (dark hunter green). I knew this wasn't the most common color for a suit, and I was a little nervous because I've never been through the tailoring experience before. Matt came over and walked me through everything, he helped me pick out not only the suit that is perfect for what I was looking for but he also helped me find a shirt, tie, belt and shoes. He was with me every step of the way. My suit had to be ordered and altered since it's not a common off the rack color, the team at Penner's kept in touch with me the whole time. I never had any doubt that I was in good hands, and any questions I had were answered fully. The price for everything was also extremely fair in my opinion. I fully endorse Penner's if you're looking for suits, clothes, shoes or anything else wearable. There's a big selection, and it's not just suits they also have just about anything for men's wear. Our visit to this boutique in Fredericksburg was very disappointing. The item could have been a gift--she had no idea who it was for. There was simply no reason to make a personal comment. If she wanted to help with sizing, she could have approached us politely and explained whether the clothing tends to run small or large. That would have been helpful customer service. Instead, her comments were judgmental and disrespectful. Her attitude at the register was no better. I asked how she was doing, and she never once looked up at me or asked how we were doing. Every other store we visited along the strip was friendly and welcoming, which made this experience stand out even more. I understand that one employee does not represent everyone at this store, but management needs to address how customers are being treated. After reading other reviews, it appears we are not the only ones who have experienced rude, snooty service here. It's unfortunate to have to leave a review like this, but customers should be able to shop without unsolicited comments about their bodies. We won't be returning.

My favorite clothing store in the entire United States…read more I've been to used clothing stores in New York City, L.A, Seattle, Maine, and more. Nothing compares to this. I'm in San Antonio a few times a year and this is always a must-visit location. I have never been anywhere that's has such a large and quality collection of mens clothing. And to have it completely centered on mens clothing makes it so much easier to find things since they have the space for it. The items are all quality! They have everything from $20 clothing items up to 1000s of dollars. It's always still good to make sure there aren't any stains or anything as I have seen a couple stains that were missed. They rotate clothing based on season, so checking back in at different times of year is worth while. Overcoats are more plentiful during the winter, linen clothing is really only put out in the summer. It is worth asking if they have certain item of clothing that are out of season. I've had them pull stuff out of the back that was recently brought in and was not going to be out on the floor until summer. They do have more large+ sized items than mediums and smalls. I'm the winter they camouflage hunting gear. Customer service is amazing. Even though I'm not usually trying on the higher-end clothing I feel like I'm treated like a high-end client. They're always happy to help you find items. I've even called to ask if they have specific items of clothing in stock and they were happy to look and see before I drive all the way over there. The changing rooms are nice and large. They don't do any returns or exchanges so making sure you really want you items is good. My only real complaint is that they starch almost all of their dress shirts. This drives me crazy personally. Since they are so starched you can't tell how soft the fabric really is and the shirts feel crunchy. I would 100% recommend anyone interested in buying used mens clothing to stop by here.
