We came for our 10th anniversary and our first time traveling without our children. Everything that you need to relax and reconnect is right there. We especially love the sauna treatments. You won't find a better way to detoxify your body and mind than Kendall's sauna. Sit in the sauna and sweat your cares away, then step outside on the lovely deck to cool off on the swing. Or, take a little stroll down to the koi pond and inhale the sweet smells all around you. It's the ultimate in relaxation! You can also get a wonderful massage with Kendall. My husband and I chose to do the hot stone massage and it was so nice. She really knows how to give a perfect massage and focused on our trouble spots really well. It's really great that you can just walk to your massage and then walk back to the cabin for a nap afterwards! We also love hot tub on the back deck. It's so wonderful to sit in there at night and watch the stars. The privacy and quietness are so nice. The cabin is so quaint and relaxing. It has everything you need right there. You can cook a meal, listen to music on the surround sound, or watch a movie. The views of the mountains from the deck and inside the cabin are phenomenal. The bed is also VERY comfortable. My husband often gets back pain when we travel because the beds aren't good. But he doesn't have any troubles here, which is amazing considering how much napping and sleeping late that we do when we're here! The cottage is tucked away in a lovely natural setting, it's very easy to access yet feels far away from it all. If you want to enjoy all that Asheville has to offer, you're just a short drive away. There's a grocery store and a few delicious restaurants right around the corner. If you're looking to unwind and reconnect with your partner, you won't find a more ideal place than Sharon Springs! We can't wait to return here. It was the perfect anniversary getaway!

Loved morning yoga, walking through the pastures, therapeutic massages, picking Blake Eyes Susan's and Babies Breath, reading in the hot tub early in the mountain mornings, watching the fireflies light up the valley, letting our Golden Retriever roam the grounds and indulging on fresh blueberries steps from the cabin!

Truly divine experience, THE BEST vacation rental experience my husband and I have EVER had!…read moreStaying in the Cloud 9 home was like staying in a childhood home for the holidays or the warmth of staying with a beloved grandparent. The home is truly very well cleaned and maintained and keeps all of the charms that a loved one would keep in a family home. Each bedroom had a theme which just tugged at the heart to love it a little more. The master bed was spacious and has a hot tub on the back porch just steps from the room. We enjoyed it almost every night! The heating in the bathrooms is a real treat to keep it warm post shower. We found the kitchen to be fully stocked for last minute platters needed for holiday cookies or a container to serve a rotisserie chicken in. The array of cups and glasses was vast and my favorite find were the vintage soup mugs to use for morning oatmeal! The patio and sheltered outdoor dining area are excellent to use and so incredibly functional it put us in awe. We had dinner every night at sunset with our families in the covered dining area. The sunsets are truly exceptional and the outdoor and new dining area are prime viewing spots. We used the fire table and hot tub on a nightly basis. The deck is so functional, it still has me in awe. The whole home's functionality and flow is just fantastic and we could not have been blessed with a better home to spend the holiday visiting family. We stayed with two dogs one of whom is handicapped and unable to use her hind legs. The access to grass for the dogs and sheer joy they experienced laying out on the deck in the winter sun warmed our hearts and truly brought joy to our furbabies. Every afternoon they would lay in the outdoor dining area and watch the chickens graze like it was doggie tv. Just happily observing. The whole vibe, energy and love of Cloud 9 just fit with our vibe. Any leftover food went into a bag in the freezer we kept for the chickens to peck at. They have a list of what the local area recycles so we could place in the proper trashcans. This truly fit in with our family's practices and beliefs and was refreshing to be somewhere that embraced this. Hearing about the passive heating the father who designed the home employed in the building and experiencing the sun warming the home on crisp winter days was a special and joyful time. The light pouring into the home only added to the warmth and charm which had us head over heals in love with Cloud 9. I would not hesitate to return, recommend to anyone and certainly am happy with the value. Janet was a gracious, present and communicative host. We are so very very happy we chose to spend our Christmas at Cloud 9! P.S. At Christmas Janet assembles and decorates the cutest and most heartwarming tree in the family living room. It was gorgeous and made our stay that much more lovely and holiday themed.

Grab a cut open milk jug from the shack and get to picking. You might even see Janet working in the field like we did. Kind and extremely helpful, she gave my littlest a jug and pointed us in the right direction. It was a hot summer day so we didn't stay forever but we still managed to pick enough blueberries for pancakes, muffins and scones. Payment is by the honor system so bring your cash and dollar bills. An entire milk jug is $16 - I wouldn't know what to do with that many berries! We probably picked about 2 pints worth and gave $5 to the money jug. Next year I will pay more attention to when the raspberries ripen in early June.

Still not sure how I ended up at the Inn at Wintersun for the weekend. I'm used to staying at less…read moreregal lodgings, namely, no-tell motels, backseats of cars or the spare room or basement of a "nice family" (most often eccentrics -- imagine the Royal Tennenbaums meet the Adams Family) or on a rickety boat via AirBNB. The gates at the Wintersun magically open and you proceed up a winding road towards porch lights beckoning guests to a wondrous retreat. I never met the proprietors, but notes lay on furnishings, instructing me where to find keys, acquire champagne, pastries, fruit and other comestibles. I was traveling solo, but I was given what only can be described as the "honeymoon suite" -- with elegant decor, a fireplace, and a high end jacuzzi. Alone, I sipped champagne, read and tried to rationalize how I deserved such a luxurious sanctuary. They serve a savory country breakfast, with all preparations of eggs, meats, breads, freshly squeezed juices, fruit and home-made jams. The Wintersun must be the kind of place the gentry class and renowned musicians and actors stay in while visiting Ireland, Wales or France. There's even a labyrinth on the property. I had a difficult time getting out; so one of the ambling guests suggested I needed a virgin to offer as a sacrifice or tribute. Locating someone as a tribute was a challenging task. Locating a virgin was an impossible task. So I closed my eyes and walked and made my way out of the concentric rings of stones and grass. The Inn at Wintersun is magical --- the grounds are radiant. I felt like a prince while there. When I exited through the gates, I pinched myself, nodded and repeated, "I'm just a pauper, I'm just a ..." I was grateful for experiencing Paradise, albeit for a mere weekend. Better to have experienced Heaven and lost, than never to have experienced Heaven at all.
