We arrived from London 2 weeks ago in the evening and after putting up the tend we went for…read moresupper. There are 2 pubs in Eardisland next to each other. We decided to try The Cross Inn first just to get the feel for it. We went in and when we asked if they served food they answered they did but they stop serving at 8.30 and although it was 8.20 I really didn't want to start my holiday with an argument and we stepped out. I am not quite sure what was going on there. Obviously they don't need money. 8.30 on a Friday night, stop serving food? Maybe they serve Lunch and Supper together, no idea. They could easily have said sorry we can't serve hot food but we can make you a cheese sandwich or we have a very good selection of crisps!!! We went to the White Swan and what a difference it was. The staff were friendly and after we order the drinks and food they told us to sit down anywhere but we asked to eat outside and they set a table for us. The Menu` was very decent with quite few English fares. We went for sausage and mash and although it didn't send me to Heaven it was tasty and freshly prepared. There was a little bit of waiting involved but it was compensated by the politeness and friendliness of the staff. The veggies were nice and crunchy even though I don't understand the need to serve roast potatoes with Sausage and MASH !!! I have to say this is not the only Pub that does that. Please, be careful with the amount of butter on the garlic bread it was drenched in it, barely edible. If we happen to be in the area some other times we will go back. We were told that on Sunday they had the whole pig roasted for supper but unfortunately we couldn't go because we were in Hay on Wye for a Concert. Shame, I would have loved that!
