Best northern MI spot I have found. Great food, drinks, service and vibe. 10 out of 10 highly recommended.

I have rarely given a 5 Star review, but the "Corner Bistro" in Bellaire is simply tremendous! We were running tardy for our reservations due to flooded roads, but the staff was very understanding. Placed at a cozy table indoors & bottled water arrived immediately. Our waitress smiled warmly as we opted for beverage orders. Just as I'm ready to go with the Oregon Pinot Noir, my eye catches a "Black Manhattan" on the cocktail menu. Well they set the fishing hook right into my cheek. Obviously I had to roll the dice. Huge drink garnished with Italian maraschino cherries. Brilliant Concussion! Simply delish! Okay, now on to their small plate listings. I opted for a Seafood pasta, speckled with shrimp, clams & a mussel or two - genius. Linda selected their sliced filet mignon, which you could cut with your fork - perfect medium rare. Also her salad serving was cleaned up with great enthusiasm. Our dear dining friends loved their choices also. Oh I almost forgot, Taylor's French Onion soup was over the top. The room was very pleasant with soft tones and lower ceilings. Now far from me being a wall flower, I inquired about the Chef. Waited for perhaps 15 seconds and simply strolled into the back of the house (kitchen) & asked to met the Chef. Taylor appeared around the corner with the look on his face like "hell's bells this guy didn't like my cooking!". WRONG! Completely caught off guard as I expounded about his creativity and presentations. Love this little gem in Bellaire. Have missed the Rowe Inn & Tapawingo over the years, but the 26 minute drive is SO worth it. Call them for reservations as the staff is limited, but attentive. Hope to met Maggie next visit. Wow, wow! The food was so good! I got the Grilled Cheese, my friend got the Fried Chicken sandwich when we split in half and shared so we had both and I couldn't tell you which I liked more! The truffle fries are a must, they were so so good! We started with the Brussels sprouts app and those were so yummy! Service was great, everything was fast and friendly and cooked to perfection. We ordered carry-out from The Corner Bistro, and overall, it was a great experience. While our order was missing an item, the staff was super friendly and immediately took it off our bill with an apology. Excellent customer service! The food itself was delicious, and everything we received was well-prepared. I did notice that the menu on their website was outdated, but when I called to order, the hostess was really helpful and quickly suggested alternatives. Would definitely order from here again. Some nights I am by myself. It was comfortable sitting at the bar, great neighbor seated to my right recommended the Scallops and they were awesome. I had a super enjoyable dinner here on a Thursday evening with girlfriends during our girls' weekends away. Their "small plates" are definitely larger than the tapas I'm used to, so I recommend planning on about 1.5 per person. We over ordered a little. All the food was well seasoned, and we all even ordered a dessert. I had the warm chocolate chip cookie skillet, and it really, really hit the spot... even if I rolled out of there stuffed, it was worth it! Don't miss out on the banana bread old fashioned! The Brie bruschetta is to die for!! Toasted baguettes, Brie, fig jam, pine nuts and arugula. Delicious!! Also ordered the gazpacho, would not do again. Very tart and looked like Campbell's tomato soup with bread puréed into it. Our waiter, Dawn, was excellent. Ambience was nice for a little corner bistro in a summer resort town. We shared the beef tenderloin entrée. Actually one person could eat it all easily, it was so so so good. Next time I'll order my own entree instead of splitting it. I have mixed feelings on Corner Bistro. I made a reservation via text a few weeks before our party of 8 arrived. At the host stand it was clear they forgot to lock in our reservation, but they were able to comfortably seat us timely anyhow, which was great. The ambiance is quaint and cozy.. with a dash of chandelier, and staffed with friendly small-town vibes. We ordered a round of drinks and our meals and both came out very promptly. Their portions are large for tapas, but priced to match. The tenderloin with bernaise was a good size and despite being cooked a bit over the medium I ordered, it was really good. I would definitely order it again. The crab cakes came in an order of 3 for $12, and were very gluey/cakey containing little to no crab in them. (I'd have rather paid more for 2 with some lump crab.) The heavy citrus sauce they were in didn't seem to pair very well with them either. They enforced one bill for our large group which was ok, but they did overcharge us by mistake. We got it corrected when I brought it to their attention. Overall, given the few nicer dinner options in town I would still recommend them if you're looking for a night out! read more

Good food, not quite fine dining, but okay. French onion soup was hot and good, if a bit on the peppery side. Cocktails were good. Beef tenderloin was not cooked as my dining partner ordered, so it was rare for his taste, but I liked it. My chicken Marsala was good, again, not great, and both entrees needed to be a whole lot hotter, they were barely warm by the time they were served. Out waitress was nice but, for someone who said she'd been waiting tables for eight years, she didn't even know to pour the water in our glasses, just gave us a carafe of water and said here's your water! This restaurant could be so much better. Hoping for better the next time we visit. read more

We finally made it here after several yearly visits to Bellaire. We a delicious dinner and wonderful appetizer, Brie and fig jam bruschetta. Service was friendly and responsive. It's handy you can make a reservation. We ate on the patio, which is a little bit noisy with traffic, but hey, it's summertime, and great to be outdoors! We have been several times and tried many dishes. We make a trip up north 3-4 times a year and we always make a point to make trip (usually with reservations) to the Corner Bistro. The servers are attentive but not overly, and ready to give suggestions (and they are 90%spot on!). We enjoy eating inside rather than out because the restaurant seating for outside is on the corner of a "busy" block of the town and can be a little loud with cars zooming by. The bar has a wide list of speciality drinks as well as an extensive wine and beer list. Do not skip the brussel sprouts (we get them EVERY TIME)or crab dip apps. We also have had the French onion soup made with gruyere cheese has a wonderfully different flavor compared to most onion soups. The Brussels are broken apart and feathered out so when cooked they are light and crispy. The crab is real and very creamy. Last time I had the bacon Brie fig jam burger and truffle fries. Cooked perfectly- a little savory and sweet. Hubs had the chicken Marsala with an incredible creamy Parmesan rice. The rice-wow! Totally would order again. Most entrees run between 25-30.00 which include protein, potato, and veggie. Do yourself a favor and make reservations and treat yourself to the Corner Bistro. read more

We celebrated our Anniversary here with family and had an outstanding meal and experience. I really didn't expect such a great meal in a town so small, but we were pleasantly surprised by the range of options on the menu, as well as the great preparation of each course. The service was excellent too, with a very friendly atmosphere. Two in our party had the fish special, a battered tilapia fillet, that while simple was perfect cooked. My bride had the Butternut Squash Soup, Beet Salad and fried Polenta. These three choices turned out to be the best items served on the table. She makes smart choices :) I had the chefs choice 7-course of small plates. Fortunately it included all the items my wife had plus 4 more on smaller plates. Another happy choice for me. Came to Torch Lake with my husband and some friends to celebrate my birthday. After looking at menus of nearby places, and as suggested by our Airbnb host, we decided The Corner Bistro would be the perfect place to dine. Everything was absolutely delicious and made my foodie heart sing! My husband and I order French onion soup from every restaurant we go to and can honestly say this is the best version we've had yet. We also had the truffle fries, Brie bruschetta, house salad, tenderloins with the Brussels, and chicken marsala. The tenderloins were cooked perfectly and the Brussels and Demi were divine. Our waitress was amazing- she was very attentive and made suggestions of different dishes, brought out everything promptly and checked on us regularly- and didn't judge us (minus my husband) for being Buckeyes. We walked in at 4:02. There was not one customer in the whole place. We tried to get a table and she said that they were booked up for the night starting at 5:30. It doesn't take an hour and twenty five minutes to eat. We were willing to sit outside on the patio and she said we would have to sit at a very tiny table. Walking by I noticed some good looking food on the patio. The menu looked nice so we made reservations. Two days later we had dinner. What a treat. The corner bistro really brings a nice different option to Bellaire. You can mix it up through a week vacation with the selection of restaurants down town. This was my fourth visit, but sadly, it could be my last. Our service last night was terrible. We waited about 30 minutes for drinks and between courses, so we didn't take a chance on dessert. When my husband asked for the check, our server said, "we don't usually bring that until after we clear the table." We had to ask twice. We had two kids and they were hungry. Although The Corner Bistro has a REALLY cool outdoor seating area, it was mighty chilly that night and our delightful host & owner, Maggie, was willing to set up a table & heater outside for us, we opted instead for takeout. Both my wife & I had the French onion soap and we agreed it was among the BEST we'd ever had. Bistro, indeed! Then I had an incredible fried chicken sandwich, pounded thin (but LARGE), served with a yummy aioli on a homemade pretzel bun. My only complaint was that the bun was a bit too thick,so I only ate the bottom. Still - delish! My wife ordered the crab cakes, and while they were not up to the soup or my chicken, she said she'd still go back in a heartbeat. I was really disappointed with this place, especially since I loved it in its previous iteration, Moka! I got some sliders for lunch- I tried the regular burger and the crab slider. Both were underwhelming. The fries were good. But with a menu like what they have, I was really expecting to be wowed! I also agree with the other person who mentioned that this is not a safe place to eat during the pandemic. We had to take our food to go because of exactly what they mentioned- chairs one foot apart, and everything just generally operating as normal and not like we're in the middle of a global pandemic. read more

We came on a very windy and cool afternoon trying to grab a quick delightful lunch. Dining room was packed so the patio was the place to be. It was perfect weather for a glass of Cab, some Arancini and a Croque Monsieur. The hospitality here is out of this world. We loved the atmosphere and the food was fantastic. Admittedly, it was my first Croque Monsieur and the mornay sauce was an unexpected treat having not made this dish before. The Arancini was crazy good with the sweet pea and lemon cream sauce. I'll be back to try the evening's delectables but this is a great spot for something yummy on your way through town or while you're enjoying the local color. read more

Very nice! Some friends and I enjoyed lunch on a Sunday. There was a bit of a wait, but I was able to put my name on a waiting list. They don't offer lunch reservations. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. We ended up ordering a chicken sandwich and two loaded grilled cheese sandwiches. They were ok. In our opinion, ham would have been better than bacon. My friend said the grilled chicken was good, but greasy. The truffle fries were amazing! We all raved about them. They had a great drink menu. A couple of us got a Bloody Mary and it was delicious! The home made mix was fantastic! My friend had a tropical mimosa and said it was good. The dinner menu looks just as good as the lunch. I am looking forward to visiting, again! read more

As this was going on, we entered the building and waited for assistance and to be shown to our table at the host stand for over 10 minutes. When our food arrived, the little, bland crab cakes were what we requested. Are pasta, we Though it looked like canned fish and was somewhat bland, we both got the seafood pasta for $26, so we were hoping for a wonderful meal. Little did we know the food was very portion size. The waitress responded that she couldn't remove the arugula and onions since they were mixed in. The food is amazingly delicious, but don't go if you're interested in social distancing. They appear to be still serving full capacity and the tables are not 6 feet apart. The general manager got snippy when I pointed out that my chair was one foot from another patron and that we wanted a different table, outside if possible. They are not requiring people to wear a mask while walking around, several people went inside without one. The staff are wearing masks, and our waiter was wearing it properly but several others had their noses out. We will not be going back soon. If you do decide to still dine in, try the crab stuffed shrimp it was Devine. read more

Superb food and a welcoming dining experience! Do not skip the Red Wine Braised Beef. We ordered extra bread to clean the plate. Everything was wonderful! You can see our starters. We dug into our entrès before we could snap pictures. Wet your whistle with the Bourbon Mint Lemonade. We are on vacation and had our pup with us. This restaurant allowed us to sit on the patio, brought out a dog bowl of water and had something on the menu especially for dogs. The staff was helpful, friendly and patient.
