I found this Deming gem through google maps on a road trip to Carlsbad Caverns. Upon walking in, the deliciously sweet scents of fresh baked goods will send your olfactory glands into a pleasant overdrive. The place is decorated super cute and the owner, Patricia, is so welcoming! I got the s'more cookie and pecan brownie and OMG, so good, especially the pecan brownie! I love to watch the customers come excited to see what Patricia has and finding what they were craving! Oh my gosh, friends! You have got to try a cookie, bar or dessert! We stopped in while traveling. My husband got pecan bars and a miracle bar. He swears it was a true miracle. The pecan bars were perfection. I got a chocolate chip cookie, an oatmeal cookie and a lemon bar. Quality ingredients make the finest bake goods and these were fine! The lemon bar had a delicate crust with a lemon curd filling that was not too sweet. The owner was delightful. It felt like I ran into an old friend. Driving though and decided to get some Mexican. I ordered a to-go item and decided to get a pastry for dessert. Went over and purchased a sugar-Free (less guilt) brownie. It was so good that after my burrito, I went over to get another. The owner gave me two on the house after I told her I liked it so much that I had to come back. I live in California, but a friend brought me one of The Cookie Jar's pecan bar when they came to visit. It was absolutely the best dessert I've ever had (and I've tried a lot of bakeries!). It was moist and flavorful with the perfect texture. I was blown away by how delicious it was. I haven't tried anything else from here but, if everything is as good as the muffin was, this has got to be one amazing bakery. Now I just have to see if they will ship! read more

One of New Mexico's Crown Jewels!!! I stopped in Deming on the way to Texas and was amazed!! Desserts that reminded me of home in a quaint little town. I had the Lemon Bars and Pecan Bars! Thankfully I tried both before I left the store so I was able to order a few more for the road. Both were moist and full of flavor. We were in the mood for coffee and something sweet to go with it. We found THE COOKIE JAR in downtown Deming. It's a small, unpretentious place with good coffee and some of the best sweets we've ever had. The lemon bars are my husband's favorites; I liked the pecan muffin and the pecan bar I took home for desert after supper. Patricia, the baker, server, and owner is friendly and certainly knows how to bake. She has sugar-free goodies for diabetics too. read more

Pat started two years ago here in Deming making cookies and cakes. Since then people have come here when they want something special or when the sweet tooth acts up and they can get some of the best homemade pastries anywhere in New Mexico. I highly recommend anyone that has a little dessert desire to stop by even off the freeway here in Deming. By the way the four $ are too high Pat's prices are very reasonable especially for the incredible quality. read more
