It wasn't my first Nia class…read more In fact, I'd done a lot of Nia with great teachers, and even took my white belt training (which at the time, was the teacher training) for Nia. Nia is amazing, and each teacher brings their own energy to the practice. In fact, if you have tried Nia and didn't love it, I recommend trying another teacher or more. It's more about the right fit for you than it is about "good" and "bad" teachers. So, Jenn Hicks. She's amazing. She's not shy about sharing her personal story online and the struggles that lead her to Nia. She has a passion for mental health and celebrating the bodies we have. Jenn understands and loves it when you take care of yourself, so there is no pressure to keep up or do anything that doesn't feel right. If I need to slow a move down, or take a break, I know that Jenn respects and encourages that. I feel like she creates a safe place where I can show up, as I am, and dance from there. All of me is welcome here. You can be gentle. That said, if I wanted to pump things up and really work it, there is no one better than Jenn Hicks. That girl has more energy than anyone I know. She has a blast while she teaches and her enthusiasm is contagious. If you want a great workout that rocks your cardio while being kind to your body, this is the class. If I could describe her classes in two words, sexy and sweaty come to mind. The kind of sexy that is barefoot and strong. I often laugh out loud in her classes as well. And I love the music she chooses. It's all over the place, but always fun. Jenn is super playful but don't be fooled -- that woman is a powerhouse of wisdom. You'll be in good hands, and likely leave loving your body a little more.

Just a few minutes into my first class, I found myself loving it. It's a great addition to my work out routine. The no pressure, feel-good approach works for me, and yet I still get a great workout. Jenn's positive attitude and warm personality just adds to the overall feeling of enjoyment. I will continue with Nia and hope to reap the benefits for a long time to come.

Updated Review 01/24/2023…read more I just had the our first Dietician's Assessment for the new year. I am back on a fairly rigorous fitness program to be ready for a big backpacking trip this summer. Emilia asked all sorts of questions regarding my goals and intentions for the trip and what I was trying to accomplish. She also had good suggestions with regards to noticing my carb/fuel intake as I progress in my training. She continues to be very positive and friendly and I recommend her highly. Original Review 09/12/2022 Emilia is a top-notch Dietician that not only has the know-how, but she has that rare quality of actually listening to her clients and meeting them where they are at. I found her very sensitive to some very real life factors that were not making my meals easy to prepare. She would not only send me the invoice afterwards, but always give me either a review of the session with a few notes, or a renaming of the goals we have set together. Emilia is warm, friendly, knowledgeable and definitely one of my favorite practitioners. She also studied nutrition specifically to support athletes and as I have just started an intensive 47 week training with a coach. I look forward to having further discussions on how best to fuel my journey. PS - She also is great with kids and families and teaches nutritionally based cooking classes within Toronto. I recommend her highly.

The whole process was easy to follow even as a first time donor. Check in with the receptionist - touchscreen screening Qs - go into a room with one of the staff for other Qs and hemoglobin test - if all is good, you will be led to a chair and have your veins checked - give blood - rest and snack to recover - be on your way. Whole thing took about an hour (giving blood was ~10min ish). When they checked, they worried my veins might be too small (apparently a common issue for smaller Asian women?) but Marisol was able to get in, no issue! I will be back :)
