The Comic Book Shoppe is a solid place for anything geek-related. Among the stuff you can find here are trading cards, great for me since I wanted to get some MtG boosters. In fact, there must've been a promotion going on, since my friend who doesn't play was given a free draft booster, probably in an attempt to keep the noble tradition alive. The other stuff you can get are varied. You have comics (evidently) in the style of manga and western graphic novels. I also noticed some magazines and art books. Aside from these are some interesting board games, apparel, figurines, action figures, and miscellaneous accessories. There's also a place for games; I saw people playing with cards (likely also Magic). The store is completely judgment-free, so don't worry if you feel like you stick out. This is a really fun place to visit. Before covid, I would go in and browse, and would see things very neatly organized, people in other parts of the store, and sometimes people playing games (usually MtG). It had a really great and welcoming atmosphere and the great thing is that the employees there never pressured you into buying anything. It was OK. It has a decent selection - if just presented in a lackluster way. I guess I'm accustomed to comic book shops that really put a lot of effort into wham-bam visual merchandising, creating shelves that really feature offerings and attract the eye. After taking the suggestions of a few salespeople from different stores, I found myself back at The Comic Book Shoppe in search of zombie paraphernalia for my zombie-obsessed friend. I walked in and asked the first person I saw for "zombie ANYTHING". She showed me t-shirts, some funny "zombie blood" drinks, The Walking Dead graphic novels, and The Zombie Survival Guide book, which is very popular. The store was getting set up with tables and chairs for groups of people to sit and play Magic cards. I found it really cool that they would even offer this kind of thing. One of the guys setting up asked me how I was liking a certain comic book so far, but then apologized because he thought I was someone else. I actually really appreciated this because it's an indication that they really do remember faces, as well as purchases, and obviously genuinely care about their customers. The whole staff was really knowledgeable, consistent with the last time I was there, and they were incredibly friendly and helpful. I walked out spending $50 on almost everything zombie that I could find and it was exactly what I was looking for. Christmas shopping for my friend - check! FANTASTIC! read more

Picked up a few titles for my nephew who likes all things Superman. Lots of other great titles as well, place was clean and well laid out.

I called in when they opened on Wednesday looking for a book. I was told the book was available and for 15 dollars. Awesome do you ship to Alberta? Ya we ship all over the world but you'll have to wait till we post it online to pay for it... Cool no problem... On Friday they posted the book for 75 dollars. When I called them to ask hat was up... they told me they were mistaken and had given me the price for the 1:5 but that the price for the 1:15 was 75. I asked to speak to manager to see if they'd atleast do something considering what had happened and after making me wait a day I called back and was told they wouldn't do anything.... Won't try to shop there again read more

I went here on free comic book day because I wanted some vinyl records At the turning point. I came out with about 20 comics. They have a good selection of stuff and have almost every type of comic Book or menga. At the back they had a bin for $00.50 comics but they didn't have any 50 cent simpsons. But theyy did have the simpsons for 2 bucks there were lots of nerds there but the nerds kept the place clean. It's good if your really into comics read more

The Comic Book Shoppe fits the profile of the protypical comic book store, like the one we see in "The Simpsons". The guy behind the counter is knowledgable and a self-proclaimed "Comic geek". The clientele is mainly of the same ilk, with lively discussions taking place on traditional topics such as, 'who would win; superman or batman?', or less mainstream topics that I, as a casual fan, could not properly decipher. The selection is very deep; from the usual Marvel comics we all know and grew up with, to less-known entities that go way back. It feels like being in a mini-museum of comic book history. Whether you're a casual fan or a hardcore fanatic, the Comic Book Shoppe is a great placet to check out. read more

I stopped in yesterday for Free Comic Book Day. The staff were all in costume, as well as some of the customers. It was a fun event - and I found the staff to be very attentive and friendly despite how busy they were. The store also has a great board game section at the back that is updated regularly - I'm often checking out what new games they have in stock. read more

I'm not a comic book fan by any means, but this is certainly a fun store to visit if you're a bit of a geek at heart. We came looking for boardgames and found some fun things like action figures, clothing and accessories, posters and more. There were several staff members there, all working hard to restock the shelves, and we were greeted very kindly when we arrived. This place definitely has a community feel; a place where you can hang out with friends and let your nerd flag fly. They often have events big and small, and if you're into this scene, you should totally check them out. This is a great spot to grab a gift for a friend that enjoys comics, superheroes, boardgames, etc. A place you should stop in in you're meandering around Someserset Village. read more

Great store! Yeah it has everything that any other comic store would have; comics, toys, cards, board games, bags... However, the difference is the people. I've been to comic book stores where the people look at you like you are an idiot and don't appear to care that you have money you want to spend at their store. Not these folks. Let me start by saying that I'm an ideal customer for a business like the The Comic Shoppe... I spend thousands of dollars each year on collectibles, especially action figures. Marvel, NECA, Hasbro, Hot Toys, Revoltech, etc... you name it, I collect it. I've been to both the Bank Street and Clyde Ave locations numerous times and my shopping experiences have ranged from poor to abysmal, especially in the past two years. For example, while shopping at the Clyde location, I witnessed three employees hanging around at the cash when they should've been walking the floor to offer their assistance. Instead, they were lounging about and directly in front of me, started laughing about a customer that had just left... she merely came in to inquire about a product with her son and when she left, they were stating that she looked like a "crackwhore" and that her son looked "retarded." I waited until the three disbanded before I left, to avoid the same ridicule. When they did split up, I wondered if it was because they saw my reaction to their behavior. Shame on them! Let's just say, I was beyond shocked and disgusted. I haven't been back since... and that's unfortunate, as their action figure selection is larger most of the time. The way I see it, why should I support a business that would treat customers like that? They also had a habit of telling me items weren't in-stock over the phone... and I would find the very item I had inquired about while visiting the store later the same day. This happened so many times, I stopped inquiring. They simply don't know their own store. The Bank Street location does have friendlier service, as a previous reviewer stated... but not entirely. Some have a cold demeanor and always look like there's somewhere else they'd rather be. I won't use names. I once witnessed an employee telling another that she didn't like the "nerds" that come into the store... did she not expect to see nerds at a comic shop? Unfortunately, most of the staff lacks serious knowledge of merchandise. It's impossible to pre-order anything and only certain employees will even offer to put items on hold... and if they do, it's never guaranteed. For example, I had called and requested a 1/4 scale figure be held and I would pick it up later that day... however, when I went to purchase it, it was nowhere to be found. Another example would be a HotToys figure that cost several hundred dollars... they had one left but had it stored away. I was told they would return my call as soon as possible the very next day... they didn't. I guess they just don't care. When brining my purchases to the cash, I shouldn't be greeted with the comment, "I didn't know we had that in stock." This is unacceptable for any employee, especially at the Bank Street location wherein it takes ten minutes to observe the inventory. While I still believe in supporting local business, I now purchase the majority of my collectibles online. I advise everyone to do the same. Price mark-ups have become too extreme at The Comic Shoppe... I understand the need to make a little bit extra from each item but what I witnessed on my last visit was scalping, plain and simple. Silver Snail might have less stock... but they have much better pricing and their customer service is undeniably better... so much so, that even if an item was more expensive, I would sooner purchase from a business that treats its customers like they matter. read more

Store was great! Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to peruse all the goodies. When I arrived home however I went to check their website and it is barely a shell. You can't make any purchases online from them. Living more then an hour outside of town makes it difficult to recommend this shop unless you are in the city. read more

Usually a great place! And their commitment to making female geeks welcome is great! I just with there was a greater variety of ladies shirts and plush toys! I usually stop by once a month to get a regular comic or two, and it's hard to sometimes find issues of Young Avengers or rarer comics like Holmes and Watson. Great selection, though; the staff is friendly and fun, and I always see them at the conventions. read more

The best place to buy board games. Prices are great, free parking, huge selection. Second choice is Fandom downtown, but parking sucks and costs you. Wizard's Tower has board games nearly 20% more expensive; don't recommend them. read more

I used to get my comic book subscriptions mailed to me because of bad experiences with comic book stores, but I found myself in the Comic Book Shoppe with a friend a few months ago and shortly afterwards I cancelled my subscriptions so that I have an excuse to go to this store more often. Not only did they have all the comic books I regularly read, but the employees provided me with innumerable suggestions as to what else I might enjoy on my first visit. They sell great collectables, display several back-issues of comics (not a lot of stores do that- they force you to wait for the trade instead if you miss an issue), the staff is helpful and kind and know what their talking about. I have never been so pleased with a comic book store in my life! read more
