For weeks after it was over, we heard from our guests that not only that it was hands down the best catering food they had ever had, but also among the best meals they had ever had. I can't stress enough how accommodating and creative and friendly Brittanny, Kjell and the staff were for our wedding. They were the perfect kind of caterers - relaxed but extremely attentive, knowledgable and approachable - not stuffy or over-bearing. Our menu still makes my mouth water--seasonal, local, sustainable and reasonably priced. She worked with us every step of the way to make sure the menu fit what we wanted out of the evening and she got it exactly right. Not only is she an absolute expert with meat and vegetable dishes, but she's also an amazing pastry chef. She made mini honey chess pies, apple pies, whiskey chocolate cupcakes, pumpkin pudding and mini Italian doughnuts fried on sight for our wedding that were all indescribably delicious. For the months before the wedding, we were so excited not only to get married (which is obvious) but it was also like we had reservations at one of the best restaurants in town. Our wedding far exceeded our high expectations. Kjell worked the bar and made up some incredible specialty cocktails that were seasonal and balanced. Everyone enjoyed them thoroughly and they weren't like rocket fuel so everyone remembers enjoying them too. He even made up a non-alcoholic cocktail for the younger and non-drinking guests. Giving Fencewalk 5-stars is a no-brainer. If you're looking for something in the Richmond area, this choice is as easy as it gets. I say with total confidence that you will not find a better caterer in town. You'll get a menu that is creative and so solidly delicious that your guests will be blown away by your taste.

This is a very nice plaza area that is more than adequate for special events. There is a bike share…read morekiosk out front of the park. The park is accessible and is home to an awesome fountain. You will find a huge patch of green space that can be used to host an event, play a filed game like football or soccer, fly a kite or have a picnic, to name a few activities. The design of the plaza is very unique. It sits over the Downtown Expressway. it is only 3 acres and was constructed in 1980. The park trademark is it heptagonal fountain that feeds into a sunken pool composed of a complex arrangement of geometric concrete walls and terraces. I really do not see much utility for this plaza outside of an event, (maybe walking a dog). There is not any seating there to hang out on (at least when I was there, but that was after a large festival too), other than sitting on the green space. This is a nice spot though and is well maintained and I would love to attend an event here. If there were tables and chairs, or even benches here this place would be awesome. It would be a spot to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Kanawha Plaza is host to a random square of greenery in downtown Richmond. It's just up the road…read morefrom the river and surrounded by all the high rises in the city. I've become well-acquainted with it as a commuter over the past several months, but otherwise I'd likely never step foot in it. There are outdoor events hosted there in the summer, but I always missed them this past season because they started too late (after 5 p.m.). I feel like if they want to bring more downtown workers to the events, they need to begin an hour earlier. But, who knows -- they might be well attended. I've never seen them. The space itself is well-kept for the most part with a pretty fountain off to the side. They've also recently installed a fun little sign that lists Richmond's sister cities and their mileage away. I'd say if you have the time for a break in your day and want a dose of mild serenity, this is a great place to visit. However, be very-very careful crossing the streets to reach it! Walking at the crosswalk at 8th and Canal is like taking your life in your hands. Unfortunately, due to the never-ending Dominion construction at 7th, I've had to cross there recently due to road closures. Typically I'll have my phone up and video on, because turning cars simply do not stop and if they hit me, I'd like proof (if my phone survives I guess). Most of the time, they turn inches behind me, which is crazy dangerous. What if I lost my footing and fell backward? (It could happen. I'm clumsy.) Also if you're crossing on Byrd toward 9th, be sure to walk on the side closer to the Manchester Bridge. It's not at all safe coming from Byrd (speeding cars coming off the bridge don't stop at the yield and only look to the left to see if a car's coming, not if someone's in the crosswalk), but it's much safer coming from the plaza. If you walk on the side closer to the city, it's the same deal: the turning cars will not stop for you.

At our first meeting, the staff were kind and welcoming, showing us the space and helping us to imagine our special day there. On the weekend of the wedding the tune completely changed. We agreed to pay the extra $150/hour to set up the day before and were met with cold, unaccommodating and dismissive staff. Unkind comments, that I am sure they did not intend for us to hear, were made during our paid setup time that were plainly put unprofessional ("That mural cost more than their car"; "Renters just need to learn to read their contracts.") As a bride, I was excited and nervous for the festivities to start and setting up at the venue was the first task to kick off the weekend. I had been planning my event at this venue for over a year and could not wait to see it come to life, and was given the impression with prior communication with the staff that they were also excited to host us. To be met with such unkind personalities at this time, having spent more than enough time and money coordinating the day, was very disheartening. I hope that this was just a bad day for TTWC because the space is one of a kind, however I also hope that no bride has to feel the way I did to start their wedding weekend.
