Food was great, went there for breakfast but the menu didn't start for sometime so couldn't get anything to eat then. Great service by staff. Went another day for lunch and it was rather satisfying. Will go back again. read more

How this cafe managed to be open a year before I found it is incredible to me…read more Important things first- best coffees in Belconnen, hands down. How do I know this? Well, apart from my own taste, it's not uncommon to see owners of other local coffee shops, whose businesses close on weekends, frequenting chatterbox on Saturdays. The food is excellent and very well priced (surprising given Canberra's overpriced brunch market). Friendly staff who remember your face and order round this out. Bonus- some staff also work at Mingle in the city during the week, and as such if you're a city worker, you can check out Chatterbox on the weekend and your coffee will be known!

Parked in a closish Wilsons, and walked to final destination. First impression was how popular it seemed. Waited in line for just a short time - there is lots of staff & 2 cashiers operating. That was good - hate waiting to order. Plenty of tables available. Used the toilet - clean and comfortable. A good sign. Ordered a fruit toast and a muggaccino. When I returned from the loo my table was set and bottle of water available. Nice touch. Generous portions of a very nice fruit toast with sides of butter & jam also in generous amounts. Coffee very nice. Highly recommend for its friendly staff, it's amenities and of course it's very nice food

Seems pretty popular with locals. I've been here a couple of times for takeaway coffee and twice for brekky. I have not experienced the dinner menu. The breakfast menu is pretty typical and not very creative on paper (and in person). But, the food *does* taste good and the coffees are very nice; my double macchiato in particular was excellent. Prices are possibly a bit high for such a sleepy neighborhood (brekky $16-20; dinner mains $32-40). But overall, a relaxed place for a weekend brekky or brunch.

It costs $1 to become 'honorary member' for a month, which gives you access to decent priced beer (standard selection) and a place to watch some sports, join the Ham Raffle, play Spin & Win or Trivia, or god forbid, play the Pokeez. As you can imagine, it's a popular hangout for a slightly older clientele, although there are younger people too. Food is not very good but acceptable for a place like this. Good-size portions and convenient if you stay next door in the motel. [EDIT: the Monday night $12 meal deal is pretty darn great; especially the steak - had it twice and loved it twice]

I give four stars if I enjoy the meal and I'd come back. And here I am again. $4.50 schooners of Carlton black. Not a bad start. Of all things, I ordered the chicken and back linguine. For $20 it was huge, the chicken tender, the meal quick and it was tasty. My three mates all enjoyed their meals too, and we returned tonight. If you become a member, even just an honorary member if your out of state, it pays for itself.

Today I ordered scrambled eggs on toast, wife ordered scones with jam and cream. All condiments (butter, jam and cream) came in those little individual plastic containers that you see in seedy hotels. I have no idea why they would do this - I assume it would be less expensive and cost very little extra time in the kitchen to buy big containers then serve them in little porcelain tubs like normal cafe. Instead they make it messy and annoying for patrons, and shift the presentation from cafe to truck stop. Worse still, despite the absence of butter on my toast, the eggs are served underdone, lukewarm and effectively glued to the top of the bread. The bread is now soggy and unbuttered. I guess you could try to scrape it off and smear your truck stop butter on the flaccid remains? Service at the door was good, at the table wasn't unpleasant but wasn't warm. Meals were served very quickly, though I'd happily wait longer for cooked eggs and buttered toast, then I could combine them at the table myself. Recommendations for Cafe: Cook your food properly, ditch the plastic wrapped condiments, smile at the customers and don't worry if things take a little longer. You have a great location and a lot of potential. Recommendations for patrons: Look in the window and see what other people are eating before you commit!

Meat pies are great, as are the jam donuts and custard pies (basically all I've tried so far and all were excellent). Hawker Village Bakery is open 7 days a week from 6 AM and easily accessible from Belconnen Drive. I've really come to like this place in my few weeks in the ACT. Highly recommended. Only thing missing? A coffee machine and some seating. But then again, this is a bakery first and that is totally fine.
