My Grandad used to have the gammon everytime and everytime he would always finish it and always tell us how good it was. I've been drinking in the…read moreMoss Vale for over 10 years, currently it's being missmanaged (it's been on the slippery slope for about 4-5 years now) The beer is very overpriced (the dearest pub in the area, nights out on deansgate cost less!) the pub is so understaffed that I have often seen customers walk out without being served (Kym Marsh was in last week and she left after 10 minutes without having been served at an almost empty bar!) The locals (myself included) just tollerate this as we are all set in our ways. It's not the fault of the staff who are all good at their jobs and usually try their best to be efficient. For some reason there is rarely more than 1 member of staff behind the bar and that person has to serve drinks, take food orders and serve food to tables. This often leaves the bar unattended which is frustrating when you are waiting for a drink. The food has deteriorated to such a point where the staff won't eat there (even though the food to them is free, they would rather pay for a chippy meal) and it is unusual for someone to eat a meal and not complain. The toilets are disgusting, It seems that recently someone has reduced the number of times the urinals flush (in an effort to save water?) which has ended up making the toilets stink. The cleaning rota has taken a dive recently, to the point where the tables are sticky, the carpets in some areas are thick with rotten food and beer slops. There has been a steady flow of landlords/landladys over the past few years, each of which have tried to improve the pub, but they are all replaced by the owner when he decides he needs to save some money, with new management always comes a cut in investment (and now the basics of hygene are being cut) If you've never been it might be worth a visit, it's a brilliant lesson in how to ruin what could be a great pub but if you want a drink and a nice meal then I'd give it a miss. I'll still go 4 times a week though. :-(

We were greeted warmly and it was explained that we had to download the app for table service and we could sit anywhere we liked. The outside was huge offering plenty of space to sit although tables were reserved from 2pm onwards. The menu had a good eclectic selection for drink and as for food offered the usual falafel, meatballs, nachos etc. We weren't massively hungry just nibblish so we shared a buttermilk chicken and haloumi platter for £13 and Latina fries for £4.50 which consisted of a topping of nachos cheese, salsa , guacamole and soir cream. To wash this down with I chose a gin cocktail consisting of prosecco, gin and lemonade..it was really tasty! The presentation was lovely and everything tasted great although I suspected the chips were from frozen. However I did feel that everything was a bit overpriced..there was x3 pieces of chicken and cheese on the sharing platter and everything came to £36 . The decor looks fresh, new, chic, understated and has that grey wood varnish touch that seems to be quite in at the moment. It's a bar but also a restaurant although it still has that pub feel but the new era pub feel. We went for the food and the cocktails - on a Friday night! This is the real time to test a new eatery. They did surprisingly well. We didn't wait for ages, had fun with the cocktails and discussing the place. Cute little notes were hung from table decorations and writing on the walls. Selection: Starting sharer platter - Italian meats, rocket, olives, mozzarella Soup and chips Random I know, but it worked. All of the food was tasty and fresh. Even through the renovation, it still attracts a lot of the old crowd. We were sat next to some people who didn't stop saying the F word through our latter part of the meal. As we were in a complete black hole for food options (we wanted to avoid the Trafford Centre at all costs), someone suggested Castle in the Air. I was sold on its whimsical name, not realising at the time its association with the company which owns over 1,000 outlets. A very large pub attached to Chill Factore, it was warm, well lit and rather pleasant inside. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We all ordered hearty meals (I can say their chicken and avocado wrap was rather good - it came with a drink included). They were suffering from IT issues when we were there but the manager told us that you'd soon be able to use Apple Pay here (where you hold your iPhone near the contactless reader). Hark! They're at the cutting edge - to order and pay for your wares without ever leaving your seat. A couch potato's dream. Beer selection was ok too - Sharp's Doom Bar and Devils Backbone both went down a treat.

No music, a few people drifting about, a sort of silence that made you wonder if you'd stumbled into a very poorly attended funeral. The staff at least were nice, and the food and drink cheap. It's the sort of place you'd be bored to tears in. Which is a pity, because those tears wouldn't even be falling into a very good pint.

Last time I went in there one of the guys behind the bar locked us in when it got to 11pm. He told us there had been a few attempted armed robberies at closing time lately, which is a shame.
