OH and I chanced upon this gem halfway through our holiday, while visiting Christchurch. It was a…read morewindy grey day and the haberdashery I'd gone to visit had shut up shop, the museums we wanted to visit were closed. We turned a corner and found the Inside Out Coffee Co. OH ordered a double espresso and I had a black Americano on our first visit. The drinks cost £3 together. You pay at the counter indoors and the staff bring your order to you. There are tables and chairs out the front of the shop. They were clean. We were served by a man who appeared to enjoy his job, possibly in his early 40's, skinhead and tattoos, which made him an alternative breath of fresh air. Very polite and helpful man. Our second visit of the day involved going back for a 'Proper chip buttie'. Thick cut bread, white or brown, buttered with chips. All condiments are freely available on the side of each table. There is a toilet cubicle up a flight of stairs which was kept very clean and with a supply of toilet roll. I enjoyed the coat hook on the back of the door. We enjoyed it so much, we drove all the way from the place near Mudeford that we were staying to sample the cooked breakfast the following morning. I ordered the 'Bumper' (£6) cooked breakfast, OH ordered the 'Bumper Bumper' (£7) breakfast. Mine consisted of two double sausages, two bacon, fried mushrooms, beans, potato discs and two slices of buttered toast. I also ordered a pot of mint tea and he bought it out with extra hot water. The 'Bumper Bumper' breakfast consisted of three double sausage, 5 bacon and everything I had in my breakfast in the same quantities. The decor is of 60's origin, with posters of the Beatles, The Who, etc on the walls, and the Mamas and The Papas, Beach Boys and Kinks playing through the speakers as back ground music. There were 5 or 6 tables inside the cafe, seating from 2 to 4 people. The counter display looked really appetising with sausage rolls, teacakes, other cakes to be purchased by the slice. Everything was clean. The prices are reasonable, the coffee is good. We enjoyed our visit and will certainly pop in again in the future if we happen to be passing through.

The best thing about this place is the food, which is terminally average…read more The decor is dismal, the service is mediocre, and whatever charm it may have had in the 1980s has long since vanished. We visited because we'd seen a nice-looking ad in a "Visit the New Forest"-type brochure. But we were deeply disappointed. The decor is gloomy, and the massive teddy bear in the window was probably cute when originally bought but is now just a bit mangy. There's a weird system of attracting the attention of waiting staff by hanging a small wooden teddy on a pole on your table - an explanatory note on the door gives instructions, but there's no real reason for it and if anything it makes the staff less attentive. They don't make eye contact with customers easily. We had some sympathy for them though - they are dolled up in an almost 'Allo 'Allo-style get-up with silly headdresses and aprons. Some explanation may be found in the personality of the manager, who at one point burst out of the kitchen, patronised a teenage boy who had come through to ask whether his family's ice creams were on the way, and didn't wait for an answer to his question "is anybody waiting?" (which we were). He seemed more interested in talking loudly and ignorantly about hospitality than actually doing any, and certainly didn't create a good impression for customers or role model for his staff. When our order arrived, we were still unimpressed. A banana milkshake was mainly warm froth; the cafe latte was metallic and tasted suspiciously like Kenco; the treacle tart was doughy and unappealing and the carrot cake appeared to have had a bite taken out of it before it got to us. So much for an afternoon tea. Anyway, the details are mostly by-the-by. The upshot is that Brockenhurst is a beautiful little town, so don't ruin it with a visit to this shabby, poorly-run, unimaginative and slightly creepy little disappointment.

If you a teddy bear addict stop here. They have many examples for sale. It is a busy café serving above average meals. A lot of the food is made in their own kitchen. It is the sort of place where you can just have a cup of coffee or a tasty lunch, or an afternoon cream tea. The staff are friendly, and there always is a good atmosphere.
