I couldn't decide if I wanted to give The Chimneys three stars or four. Condition-wise, when we played, this course was more of a three (okay) when compared to other public courses in Georgia that cost under $80 for a weekend round. The course had some rough spots, but nothing terrible, which is one reason why I've bumped The Chimneys up to four (good). Three other reasons I decided to give The Chimneys four stars are (1) the staff I interacted with, Michael and Celeste, were nice to me; (2) the price we paid was a decent value; and (3) I found the course to be very playable and fun. It's easy and suits weekend hackers like me. I recommend calling the pro shop directly at 770-307-4900 to book your tee time. Don't use the course website. You can use the site to browse available tee times, but don't book online. If you call to book, you won't be charged a dime. If you book online, you'll have to pay a nonrefundable GolfNow fee upfront. No thanks. I booked my tee time over the phone with Michael, six days in advance. When I arrived to the course, Celeste checked me in. We played on a Saturday morning 16 days after the greens had been aerated. Therefore, we got charged a cheaper rate: $50 even per person for 18 holes including cart. Range balls were extra. I got a small bucket (roughly 30-40 balls) for $5. The range balls were yellow and either Strata or Marathon brand. They were in average shape. The range was a little small and mats only. I counted 11 mats. Not all mats were the same size. Some mats had the extender strips on them where you could tee up balls, but most did not. And while there were 11 mats, there were only five club stands. I didn't see a practice bunker nor a practice short game/chipping area, but there is a practice putting green on the way to the 1st tee. All 18 greens and the practice putting green were in great shape. The greens aerification was still noticeable, but all of the greens had healed nicely for the most part. Typical of daily fee courses in the same price tier, it appeared to me that The Chimneys prioritizes maintenance of their greens and fairways. There's less of an emphasis on bunkers and tee boxes. I do think they could do a better job with removing cut grass on the tee boxes and fairways. Some tee boxes had a lot of broken tees, but most were clean. The tee boxes didn't have much grass, but that's to be expected for a $50 public course. The bunkers weren't awful and completely let-go, but they weren't very good shape either. Several were unplayable due to standing water. We played after several days of rain. As mentioned above, I thought the course was fun to play and I think part of it had to do with the difficulty level. This is a very wide-open course with large, accepting fairways. It's not too long either and still manages to be a par 72. The course maxes out at 6,500 yards (gold tees) with a 71.4/127 rating/slope. If you're familiar with rating/slope, then you'll probably recognize instantly how low the difficulty is. I played from the white tees (5,734 yards, 68.0/117) while my buddies played from the blues (6,202, 69.9/124). Bottom line is this is a good course for beginners and casual golfers. Challenge aside, as far as the design and layout, the course isn't terribly scenic or memorable. There are no real water holes (no ponds/lakes) and really not a whole lot of bunkers either. Where this course can get visually impressive are the holes with dramatic elevation changes. No. 10, a short, downhill par-4 (328 yards from blues, 302 from whites) and No. 14, a mid-range, downhill par-3 come to mind. Aside from that, the holes are pretty straightforward with only one hole that has a blind shot (15). In general, the terrain is hilly and rolling. There's a decorative chimney as you approach the 1st green. There are two chimneys, which look original, as you drive from the 12th tee boxes to the fairway. This isn't the only course in Georgia that I've played that has the remains of an original chimney on/around the course for decor. I can't name the other course(s) off the top of my head, but I have reviewed it (them). A lot of natural rock from the site has been used for retaining walls and decorative purposes. The clubhouse/pro shop was A-OK. It was spacious, clean, and up-to-date enough. Not fancy, but also not neglected like other golf shops I've seen in Georgia. They had a basic, limited selection of apparel (Srixon) and shoes (Asics) in addition to equipment. Not much in terms of clubs and bags, but a decent stock of the essentials (balls, gloves). I noticed a Srixon club fitting station. The clubhouse also had a nice little self-serve food and beverage section (no bar and grill), a small corner lounge space with TV, and an outdoor patio. There was no starter when we teed off before 10am, but I noticed one when we left around 2pm. There was no food and beverage cart service nor did we ever see a marshal/ranger. Luckily, we didn't need one. Pace was brisk.

Definitely worth the drive. The course is so pretty. Although its only 6300 from the blues, you have to earn every yard cos there is no roll and the greens are very receptive. I agree that the greens are slow, but that's just something to know and adjust your okay. Attack the pins and putt like you mean it. The break rarely occurs, so you should just ram it in. Come out here if you have not already. I had a great time on Monday, and I finished in 3 hours. No crowds, no rush, just wide open fairways.

When we went inside, we noticed the bartender was in the kitchen preparing food, while the man who appeared to be the cook was just standing by as if waiting to cook- not sure if he was new or not. He came out to greet us briefly before returning to the kitchen. When the bartender finally took our order, the only thing available quickly was a hot dog. A cheeseburger would have taken ten minutes, which we didn't have since we were on the clock for the 10th hole. (This is why we had tried to call in our order during the 9th hole, as is common practice at most courses.) We left hungry and disappointed. I mentioned that we had tried calling multiple times, and she explained that they, "can't hear the phone in the back with the fan and burners on." However, as the bartender, she shouldn't be the one cooking if there is a dedicated cook available. Another couple came in to dine as well and also experienced a long wait.

Its quite the hike out from ATL, but you are rewarded with a quiet course and fantastic pace of play. 45 mins for me to get here, but I was done with my round in 3 hours. I was playing solo, and the 3 groups in front did let me play thru. Course conditions are very good. Tee box and fairways are lush well kept. Fairways are mowed low, so always a nice roll and good lie. The greens however, were just punch and sanded. I can tell that it was well cared for to begin with, and I imagine, it will be even better in 2 weeks. Strangely enough, even with the sand, the greens were super fast. If I had to ask for improvement, it has to be the cart path and gas buggy. Please fix the bumps and get new e-carts. Otherwise, keep up the good work. I had a great time, and I will back in 2 weeks, after the greens are healed up.

chateau elan golf club. December 6-2025. Overpriced Off-Season Disappointment…read more I don't mind playing golf in the off-season, but if a course is going to charge premium prices, the conditions should at least come close to matching them. Unfortunately, this place falls far short. The fairways were Dormant due to the time of year and the weather here in Georgia has been in the low 40s. What really frustrates me is With the weather conditions in time of year the rates were still sky-high--as if it were peak summer. If I'm paying top dollar, I expect perfect conditions, and in addition, it was cartpath only so it took us five hours for the round of golf. We paid $125 +8% sales tax for a total of $135. For the conditions of the course, the course layout and the time of year this was a total rip off. There are plenty of courses that adjust their prices to reflect the season and still offer a better experience. This one needs to rethink its off-season value, because right now it's nowhere near worth the cost.

I give Chateau Elan Golf Club 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I would categorize this as a 4-star club,…read morebut it's somewhat of an underwhelming 4. As a disclaimer, I've only played Chateau Elan's Woodlands course (twice). The club has another 18-hole course called the Chateau course as well as a par-3 course, both of which I've yet to play. Simply put, I expect more of a golf course that's part of a winery and resort. When it comes to resort courses, which I think should be held to a higher standard, this is one of the "lower end" ones I've been to. The clubhouse, amenities, and course (Woodlands) are no better than higher-end public daily fee courses in the Atlanta area. Just a handful of courses I think are better and more fun to play include Bear's Best (Suwanee), Cherokee Run (Conyers), BridgeMill (Canton), Echelon (Alpharetta), and The Frog (Villa Rica). While the Woodlands course isn't a bad course by any means, I'd probably be just as inclined to play municipal courses in Atlanta like Browns Mill and Chastain Park (courses which are closer to where I live in the city) before making the solid 45-minute to 1-hour trek to Chateau Elan in Braselton. Don't take the main entrance for the winery and resort. The golf club is located a little bit further down the road after you've exited off I-85. It's got a separate entrance (Golf Club Drive). Again, compared to other country clubs and higher-end public courses, Chateau Elan's clubhouse isn't all that impressive. It's relatively small and the men's locker room feels more like a temporary trailer or building add-on/extension. That said, the golf shop is stocked with a decent amount of Chateau Elan logo apparel, golf accessories and equipment, and there's a bar and grill with an enclosed patio. The driving range is spacious with plenty of both grass and mat hitting stations. Range balls come in one size only: a basket of 42 balls for $5. The Range Servant accepts tokens, which can be purchased inside the golf shop, or $1 and $5 bills. When I last used the range, the balls were TaylorMade practice balls. They were fairly nice. I haven't been to too many ranges that use them. The golf carts are E-Z-GO electric carts. They were in good condition last time I played. One thing I do appreciate about Chateau Elan is they provide a pair of towels in every cart. It's nice considering most courses at Chateau Elan's price point ($60-80 weekend/holiday morning rate) don't offer towels. The carts come with a few tees too though they are the short variety. For the past decade-plus, long tees have been the norm, so I'm not sure why they provide short ones. The last round I played, I booked our foursome's tee times directly through Chateau Elan's website. The rates shown on Chateau Elan's website were the same as those shown on GolfNow. However, GolfNow required an additional convenience fee paid upfront whereas no payment was due online when booking through Chateau Elan's site. We were charged $62.43 per golfer ($58.35 greens and cart fee plus $4.08 tax) for our Sunday morning round on the Woodlands course. The guy in the golf shop was friendly. There's a bag drop and cart attendants right in front of the clubhouse. The morning we played, they looked to be mostly teenagers. There was no starter which we found to be odd. Every group pretty much started themselves. Our foursome showed up to the 1st tee, then a twosome, then a single. Even though the twosome and single had tee times after us, we decided to go ahead and let them play through. However, the twosome and single did not pair up. If there was a starter, they probably would have been paired up. The last time I played the Woodlands course with my dad, the starter paired us with another twosome. In the end, the pace of play for our foursome worked out to be roughly 4 hours and 45 minutes. It was a bit longer than we would have liked, but it wasn't terrible either. While there was no starter, nor marshall for that matter, there was a food and beverage cart which we saw 2-3 times during the round. The first time, the cart lady did not have sandwiches. The second time, which took a while, she came with sandwiches in tow. As for the Woodlands course itself, it's fine. After playing a couple rounds on the course, I can honestly say there's nothing about it that really draws me back. It's a fairly standard Georgia par-72 nestled among trees and spread throughout a subdivision. It's not terribly long and perhaps average in difficulty. From the tips: 6,735 yards with a 73.1/135 rating/slope. From the white tees (where we played from): 5,927 yards with a 68.4/126 rating/slope. There's little water to contend with and the landscaping and scenery are average. As far as course conditions, they were good to great. The large greens were in magnificent shape. They were among the fastest greens I've played in metro Atlanta. The quality of the sand in the bunkers was good and the tee boxes and fairways were in satisfactory shape.

Cocktail hour a bit less successful. They had one bar outside at top of stairs to the hall. Everything out there, including wines, had gotten very warm to almost hot sitting in the sun. Bar area needs to be shielded from the sun, or better yet have both bars inside with the heat. There was an event cocktail in dispensers. It would have made sense to have one bar focus on that, wine and beer to keep the lines moving as tremendous wait, again at outside bar, standing in the sun and heat. If they had had the event cocktail a s all distance inside then it might have deterred allot of folks from sitting on bar lines. Not well planned. The hall itself is relatively sterile, similar to that of a hotel offering with a tad more character. The room was at a very reasonable temperature throughout the event. The appetizers - mini beef wellingtons, fried shrimp very good. The bruschetta ok. The main course - ok, but certainly disappointing. Old school menu of pot roast, mashed potatoes, squash, if and chicken with caper sauce. First, pork was so hard and overcooked that it was largely inedible. The chicken decent but some of the sections still had blood inside and the breasts pretty dry, Also, no spoon for service to get some of the sauce on the meat to help with dryness. The best thing on the buffet was the rolls in y opinion. The place just seemed dated in terms of offering.
