When we walked in around 14:30, there were quite a few people in there including a large party so this spot would be good for groups of all sizes! The menu looked pretty good and they had quite a few beverage options. You walk up to the bar to place your order and pay and they give you a labelled spoon to take back with you as they will bring the food to your table. The Sunday roast was reasonably priced and was enough for two people to share if you're not super hungry! My partner and I came with my brother and his partner who are from England and they found it strange that there were 1)two types of potatoes (boiled and fried) and 2)Yorkshire pudding that looked like it had been cut from a large pan of it rather than the usual individual portions. Overall, we were pleased with our experience and would go back but would likely try another restaurant in the area for food next time.

There was an appealing list of specials as well as a more prosaic permanent menu. We tried a cheesy Staffordshire oatcake to start then split into fish pie and steak pie. All were served extremely hot and with vegetables which had obviously be freshly cooked and were not overdone, which is a welcome change from most pub fare. Most main dishes are around £10. The raspberry and apple crumble we had for dessert was particularly good. They have several wine options as well as permanent and guest ales but I did not notice much out of the ordinary in the way of gin, whisky etc. I assume the ale is decent as bf used to come here a lot on cycle trips. Very nice staff and overall a lovely pub well worth a stop by if you're nearby e.g. near Monsal Head or Bakewell.

We went on the Sunday with 2 of our 4 enjoying their roasts with all the trimmings (£9.50), I had the pork loin with black pudding mash (so so good at £11) and my mother in law had the vege' wellington which she said was delicious. There were quite a few changeable ales - 5 cask ones in fact although like most pubs I found in these small Derbyshire towns and villages they were quite conservative with their choices and mainly consisted of a few beers from the big names like Martsons. A great pub with great food - a real country inn so definitely worth driving out to!

There are flagstone floors and lots of rood panelling. There's an extensive menu with a range of full meals, and hot and cold sandwiches, and a good range of real ales. In our party the £10 Sunday Roast went down very well, with generous portions and huge Yorkshire puddings. The £12 veggie burger (minced mushroom) was very good and also generously portioned and cake with sweet potato chips and coleslaw. For s busy Sunday, service was very quick and friendly. So, not the cheapest venue but good value if you can manage the portions.
