I'm very conflicted writing this review, but here it is: First, the good: Dr. Gwinn is an excellent surgeon. He is clearly very skilled and knowledgeable, and he immediately instilled confidence. Having this surgery was a major decision, and Dr. Gwinn put me at ease, and I believe I made the right decision choosing him for this procedure. I also have nothing but good things to say about his PA. If you choose MMI, you will likely receive quality medical care. Now, the bad: Quite literally, everything else. I have never experienced this much frustration dealing with a medical office staff. Communication is pretty much nonexistent, and when you do reach someone, most of the time they pass the buck, say your issue is not their department, and then blind-transfer you to a voicemail box. That voicemail will not be returned. You will have to call back over and over again, and even after explaining that your voicemail was never returned, you will simply be blind transferred to the same voicemail again, ad nauseam. This is true of scheduling, medical questions and concerns, administrative issues, etc. This is beyond frustrating, especially while recovering from major surgery and navigating other issues such as FMLA concerns. Also, if you need any forms filled out, they will nickel-and-dime you. Need a one-pager stating that you are medically fit to return to work after FMLA, that's $10, need another form, that's $10, even if you download it digitally. I'm not really concerned about the small fee, but it seems petty, especially considering I'm continuing to have and pay for follow-ups with the doctor. It's just another example of a top-down culture that seems to be anything but customer-focused. Again, I'm grateful for the quality medical care I've received from Dr. Gwinn. That being said, I think the way this practice is run is detracting from that care. As frustrating as the totality of my experience has been with MMI, it's unlikely I would recommend the practice to a friend, family member, or colleague. read more

Horribly run company started with Chester office waste of time for about 5 weeks tried Annapolis office rude and misread medical chart. Cancelled appointments with no notice after scheduling work around for surgery I had no confidence and after 6 weeks of no help no way would I let them perform surgery on my knee. read more

Doctors and PT staff are great, but the communication on appointments is not. When you call, you get a recording to "use the patient portal," but actually, it isn't accurate in terms of scheduled appointments. I missed an appointment for PT because the portal did not list it though it listed all the others. When I asked about it, an employee told me "well, that portal isnt' actually accurate most of the time" so just be forewarned. You'll need to keep your paper print out of scheduled appointments, and you'll need to clarify other communications; don't rely on the "convenient patient portal." read more

The doctors are good, but the billing office is in my opinion a bit of a scam. I have never experienced the type of games with a medical office that I have in MMI. They charged me a $500 new patient fee, after they checked me in as an "existing patient" (I have been going here for years). No notice. Would not reverse, gave me the run around. I had some knee pain so scheduled an appointment with Dr. Gupta. He checked out and he recommended several PT sessions with their PT group. I had about 3-4 sessions and the PT provided written instructions to continue doing PT at home. It has worked well for me and I regularly follow the PT instructions to strengthen the knee and leg muscles. read more

Very poor experience with PA Juan Woods regarding a shoulder issue. Would not recommend. My appointment was for 3 PM and I was still waiting to be seen after 4 PM, even though there was only one other patient in the waiting area. When he finally saw me, he insisted on talking over me and seemed to be trying to impress me with his knowledge. He kept rambling about tangential issues that did not relate to my condition. Also, there are lots and lots and lots of staff scurrying around and when you're waiting in the inner waiting rooms, you can hear lots of giggling and idle conversation. This review is for the Urbana location, although it seems like the Frederick location is just as terrible from the other reviews I see. Extremely disappointed with the cowardice displayed by "Dr." Gwinn in not facing me himself to tell me why he refused to see me to help me with my chronic back pain. This is someone who served in the military so I expected more from such a person, but no he is nasty. Instead he sends his smarmy, spawny, stupidly-bespectacled lacky to tell me and give an excuse for everything as to why they wouldn't see me, and clearly couldn't care less about my debilitating pain. To the owner: don't bother replying, as I see you have done to everyone else who complained. The bottom line is I am suffering and the Gwinn and the staff here refused to see me because you wanted to. There is nothing you can ever do to make up for it. First off only clinic in my area about 30 mins radius that was open on a Saturday thank you so much for that . The front desk (they were also great ) check me in as soon as i walked in and i was taken back shortly after i finish the form they had me fill. The tech that did my vitals and input was great and then went straight to X-ray . After X-ray the doctor was shortly in and was given a steroid shot . I'm a military vet so i experience joint pain a lot But don't like going to the doctor cause of the wait time and sometimes i feel like my pain is being Brush off because I'm a slightly younger vet . But here i taken care of and straight to the point . The service was great and Dr Gupta was amazing and he made me feel like he genuinely care . Thank you for your service. read more

MMI Frederick office has a good Doctor, Dr. ROSE, unfortunately I can no longer see her because of the staff at the front desk! In Jan. I had an appt. with her for an injection, I came in and waited like 20 minutes only to be told that I couldn't get the shot because it was too soon, the staff at the desk scheduled me for the FIRST of the month instead of the END ! no problem until I get BILLED FOR THEIR MISTAKE!! I was told that since it was in their " system" it couldn't be fixed!!! I REFUSE to pay for THEIR MISTAKE and now it's being sent to a collection agency where it will NOT be paid for ANY REASON!! DO NOT go to these people unless you want to deal with IDIOT staffers!! read more

Went here for a torn rotator cuff on January 13. Was told I needed surgery and that a coordinator would contact me to schedule. It has been 6 weeks today since that appointment and no one has ever contacted me. They have sent me their bill though that I have paid in full. The Doctors were nice but apparently their office staff can not complete anything the Doctor asks them to. Will not recommend to anyone. I have already seen another orthopaedic surgeon at MedStar Orthopedics and am now 8 days post op from my surgery that was scheduled the same day as my first appointment. Our 17 year old son had a very traumatic, and MOST unusual forearm injury which needed immediate and decisive attention. (They had NEVER seen anything like his most absurd injury.) It occurred at 7:00 on a Tuesday night. We went to Anne Arundel Medical Center ER (North Arundel) in Glen Burnie, and were home by 10 PM (nice). I called for an appointment at 10:00 in the morning. They told me to come in at 11:00 (an hour later) We met Dr. Peter Jay, M.D., (terrific) and his awesome colleague Dr. Russell R. Bear D.O., F.A.A.O.S.. They are incredible, and exude such confidence from decades of medical excellence. They showed our son's most unusual x-rays to multiple colleagues who all agreed that he needed IMMEDIATE surgery by Dr. Terrence O'Donovan, MD. (The world's most renowned forearm and hand surgeon. No joke. The best.) This occurred at 11:30 the next day. He had some incredible, and audacious decisions to make for our sweet child ~ and followed through with a wonderful success. From a Tuesday night bizarre incident/accident to intensive surgery, and hopes for a normal arm & life by Thursday morning. A whole bunch of professional awesomeness occurred in rapid succession! Special note: Rachel at CAO front desk actually made it all happen. Shout out Rachel! (our hero) If it weren't for her professionalism, and intimate knowledge; a whole lot of suck would have happened in the same rapid succession. When we hit a game stopping snag, Rachel declared, "... Don't worry. This is gonna happen right here; right now! I have an idea!" Rachel's brilliant plan worked like magic. All of the other CAO front line staff was ready to do their part if needed. CAO is a winning team of compassionate professionals. Special note for the operating room (OR) team. - Nurse Penny walked our son through each and every step. Answering serious, and silly questions from a 17 year old going into, and coming off of anesthesia. Some of the CAO ~ OR team ducked in and out so quickly that I was unable to get their names. You know who you are; and everyone knows that even though you are sometimes hidden in the shadows; your efforts at phlebotomy, anesthesia, OR assistant, nurses, front desk staff, and the rest put our big buddy back together again. read more

I don't understand how MMI can ignore the office staff and reading these reviews I can see I am not alone. My daughter had a sprained ankle. We normally go to Rehab 2 Perform but decided to follow through on the referral here for simplicity and speed. With just 2 appointments so far, we've had issues with appointment confusion and general rudeness at the front desk. But the nail in the coffin is that I refuse to pay $150 per appointment due to their policy regarding high deductible plans. They said I could call my insurance myself if I don't like it. It's outrageous. We have had none of these issues with R2P so I would suggest saving your time, effort, money, and sanity and going there. This is the first time I've ever had a fracture in my life and Frederick Health ER referred me to The Centers for Advanced Orthopedic. I was able to get an appointment the next day which was great. The PA reviewed my X-rays taken the night before and stated I had two fractures. I am the type of person that works out everyday and wanted to do whatever was needed to get me healthy. The PA set me up in a boot which was around $150 after insurance. When I got my benefit statement from my health insurance it listed I had a surgical procedure and my insurance was billed $2700! Luckily I just had to pay my deductible but would feel terrible for someone without insurance. I had my second visit 4 weeks later which there were no issues. They took X-rays and the PA advised that I am progressing great but still can not go back to work in full capacity and to see her in a month. So December 18th comes and I get an email and automated voice message that my 8a appointment was cancelled due to the office having a delayed opening because of weather. When the office opened I immediately called to get an appointment and they told me the next available was December 21st. NO PRIORITY or since of concern to accommodate a patient who the OFFICE cancelled. The receptionist seemed irritate so I didn't say anything as I am sure she was overwhelmed with patients trying to reschedule. December 21st comes and I take off work again. I arrive at 8a, check-in and am called to the front desk. The receptionist tells me that my appointment was cancelled but the PA is doing telemedicine today and can have her call me. I explained this is a fracture 2 month follow-up appointment for two fractures. While I understand some health concerns can be handled by telemedicine I do not think a fracture could be adequately treated through the phone. I asked how would I get my x-rays taken. She went to the back office and said let me check on that I don't know. She came back and said she could make me a telemedicine appointment and if the PA orders X-rays I could go to the radiologist and get the X-rays taken. So I clarified that I would have a telemedicine appointment and the PA would have no medical knowledge of my progress than I have to go get X-rays and than have another appointment with the PA to see the results? The receptionist repeated she could make the appointment but I should've received a phone call (no phone calls or messages but rather text message reminders to check in online). I advised the receptionist that I think I'm healthy enough and will no longer need services. Unfortunately I won't have medical verification before I start working out again but this practice has got too big and just sees the patient as money There is no appreciation or respect for the patients time or what they had to do to make an appointment. If I didn't show up for an appointment they would have no issue charging me but when they cancel on the patient, you get a careless attitude like you are just a number. A solution to this would've been to have another physician see me to evaluate my fracture but rather they would like to see a patient walk (or hobble) away from their business. read more

The wait time here is insane. My appointment for 10 am resulted in the doctor coming in at 11;18. I should've walked out.

I was a patient at MMI for several years. I loved my doctor but after about a year or so issues started to happen. First I have to travel one hour from my home to get there. I was stuck in traffic and running late. I called and told them that I would be 15-20 minutes late because of an accident on the highway and was told that was fine. I got there within the 15-20 but had to sit in the lobby why there were working some issue out on the computer with my insurance. I was finally taken back into the room where I sat for 30 minutes. When the doctor finally decided I had waited long enough to punish me, she came into the room and blasted me about being over 30 minutes late. I explained I called and she quickly cut me off and said "you said 15-20" NOT over 30. I explained that I was there at the time I said I would be but they had me in the waiting room for about 20 minutes. I have never been treated so disrespectfully! Strike one. Then I called to get a refill called in for my prescription. No response. I called the pharmacy- nothing. I called MMI again- left numerous messages- no response. When they finally decided to call me back they said I needed another meeting before they could refill but they could not see me for 3 weeks. Strike Two I asked if they could call in a small refill to hold me over until I had my appointment. Yes, I was told. I spent 2 weeks calling with no help and eventually ran out of medication and had to go without for a week before someone did their job. I checked online and saw tons of comments that they were changing their computer system and were not calling people back. This is inexcusable! I finally changed doctors. Strike Three read more

Rceived a call and were asked who canceled because it was on her computer, we responded that they did! Then we were told he does not return calls. What provider doesn't call a patient. I was injured back in March at work, I slipped and fell off a platform and nailed the back of my left shoulder against it and my wrist again an edged partition. I was told Kristin Nesbitt would be the person to see. Instead of listening to my problem she told me I was perfectly fine, That I could not injure myself further and that I was fine to go back to work. Three days later I'm in the Chambersburg hospital feeling like my arm was being ripped off my body. Workers comp cut me off, saying this was a previous injury. I've been following up with my own insurance, two MRIs later I'm told I have torn cartilage and tendons in my shoulder. Thanks MMI! Went today to see a Dr Gilsford. Signing the paperwork I see that it says that if my injury should be linked to Workers Comp, that MMI would charge me 150$ for filing paperwork. I asked the receptionist about it, I told them I wouldn't sign it. They already had my workers comp information on file from my previous visit, why should I have to pay you 150$? I'm never going back, and if you're thinking of scheduling a visit here I would advise against it. They do not care about their patients, only the paper and cards in their wallets and how much they can scam you out of. Edit* Forgot to add, I had a follow up appointment with Nesbitt that I was calling a week in advance to cancel, I have screenshots on my phone of being placed on hold for almost 6 hours just to cancel my appointment. As a business, this place is run like they don't care about losing customers. It is next to impossible to talk to a real person on the phone. After lengthy voice menus you get dumped or given a busy signal. They push you to use their online "patient portal" which is not going to help many 85 year old long-time patients like my mom. I've tried to set that up for her and even that is a wild goose chase. Have we really gotten to a point where doctors no longer have staff to answer the darn phone? Just trying to verify when her next appointment is and I'm at a point where it feels like my only option is to drive to Frederick and see if anyone is even home at MMI. Terrible customer service, plain and simple. The quality of the doctors is irrelevant if you can't even get in touch with the practice like you would with any business that remotely cared about their customers. Trying to speak to a human on the phone has been an exercise in frustration for years, and today was no exception. After waiting on hold for 30 minutes (as I was number 16 in the que), I was abruptly disconnected when it was my turn. They have added an option to make an appt online, however, this does not allow for emerg/same day appts and gives very limited options for reason for podiatry appts in the dropdown menu, none of which were relevant for my problem. I called Dr Levine and Bell's office, another podiatry practice in the same complex, spoke to an incredibly friendly and helpful staff member, and got an appt., all within 3 minutes.They have 5 stars on yelp compared with 1.5 for MMI. Rcvd automated msg after 15 mins that said my wait would be over 5 mins and to leave a msg, which I did. 6 Oct 21 I receive a call back and tell receptionist I want a referral, she tells me I need to speak to nurse and connects me to that automated voicemail. Leave msg. 11 Oct 21 Nurse calls me back and says the dx left referral with center. Call center. It's for the wrong issue. Always come here for any joint injuries. Have came repeatedly for the past 8 years due to torn meniscus in both knees and elbow injuries. Only complaint is with the online appointment booking. Booked an appointment last tues for a doctor at 5:15 Pm, received a confirmation email. Ten minutes later received another email saying "appointment cancelled due to scheduling conflict". Went back online to rebook and still saw the same appointment available. Finally ended up calling. Had an appointment for 06:15 PM ... received a call at 3:00 PM saying that is cancelled. Managed to fit me in at 4:45 PM which means I was seen at 05:20 PM. Saw Dr Gupta and after exrays were taken he stated I did not have another torn meniscus but pseudo gout. Calcium crystals in my knee joint fluid. Tried to extract some knee fluid but was unsuccessful and then gave a cortisone injection. Amazingly my knee felt much better in just a few hours. The only ache was the injection point where he tried to extract the fluid. Thanks Dr Gupta! read more

I've had two surgeries with Dr Steinberg-an excellent doctor. Thousands of dollars of care that was paid in full and on time. Today, I was scheduled to see Dr Roussell but I didn't have my insurance card so they wouldn't see me. No option to put me down as "self pay" and then send in my insurance card. I had my member number, just not the physical card. I retired from the military and my "insurance" doesn't change. I say "insurance" because it's not really insurance, it's a benefit that doesn't end. So, it's exactly the same as it was for my two surgeries, and I had my number, but they couldn't figure out a way to let me see the doctor. read more

The treatment that I received was good at this facility. The problems occurred after when I got a separate bill after paying them at the desk and asking them what the total was that I owed. I paid them and then got this separate bill in the mail later from the corporate office. And that wasn't The problem. The problem occurred when I called the office to find out if I had already paid this or whether it was a separate bill. I called to talk to the billing. And sat on the phone for about 25 minutes and then when I finally get someone on the phone the billing employee they tell me they have no time they're overloaded with phone calls and she cannot help me but she can take a message that took five minutes. And then she never called me back. So then after the corporate called me I called them again a week or two later and asked to speak to a manager and left a message for the manager. WHO NEVER CALLED ME BACK!!! I will not be going back to this location. You're not gonna disrespect your customers by not caring about their bills or if they have a question about a bill. That's a terrible business practice. And I think they're in efficient and unprofessional for not returning my phone call TWICE. read more

Called to schedule an appointment for my daughter to be seen. The scheduler was rude from the onset and actually hung up on me. Instead of trying to help me figure out what type of appointment we needed to schedule she got frustrated and hung up. I am currently trying to call back and no one is answering now. Great customer service you offer. I have been seen as a patient as has my daughter and we have never had an issue like this. I was seen by Dr. Nesbitt for my wrist injury which has caused me a great deal of pain and discomfort since January 1, 2022. Dr. Nesbitt made me feel as if my injury was insignificant and due to a underlying condition. I did not feel any empathy or care from her doing my appoinment. She basically seem very robotic and cold with not too much of a personality. She was not rude, but didnt seem to friendly or concerned which is unusual for a doctor. read more

For Physical Therapy go somewhere else. I went for a 30 minute evaluation where they asked where it hurt ( lower back ), they then showed me 3 exercises and printed out the 3 exercises and handed it to me. 3 different charges totalling $520 to my insurance which $230 out of pocket. I paid it. I went in then for my first hour Physical Therapy appointment where they had me do a stationary bike for 6 minutes, then saw the Physical Therapist where she told me to do my 3 exercises from last time and showed me 2 more. She just sat there typing her notes from previous patients, did not talk, and then handed me over to a 19 year old for 5 minutes to do some stretches. Bottom line I could have done those exercises at home and saved another $275. I walked out and cancelled the rest of the 9 appointment I had immediately. ( Receptionist did not look surprised ) Would not recommend. Don't need to pay someone to sit on a computer typing their daily notes while I do my exercises I can do at home. Rip off. read more

arrived at 3:07 for an appointment at 3:15. I was told the doctor refused to see me because the doctor has a policy that a patient must arrive 15 minutes early or they would not see them. When I asked for a written policy, they didn't have one. I can only hope they won't charge a no show fee. Apparently the only thing that matters here are the doctors, not the patients. I will not be back. I want to know my doctor's care about me in every way. They obviously don't here. read more

Doctors, staff, and therapists are all top-notch. Each have their own specializations -- it makes for a thorough experience. My therapist, Cherice, is more than accommodating in considering what my capabilities are for each session and encourages me to do a little bit more than I think I can. As far as I can tell, all patients leave their therapists with a positive experience, ready to tackle the rest if their tasks. I also thank The Ice Crew -- not only does my 10-minute session hit the right spot, but their diverse range of small talk keeps my mind enriched... enough. Of course, they have other responsibilities as well -- they tackle all with a seamless flow of professionalism and grace. The business lost points for their phone system, but I concede that I may not have figured out how to use it effectively yet. read more

The doctors are exellent. My husband has had both shoulders operated on by Dr. Gilsdorf. My father has seen Dr. Gupta for his knee and Dr. Levine for his shoulder. (5 stars) But, good luck getting an appointment. It is nearly impossible getting through by phone. My father had to actually schedule his shoulder appointment at the office. I was on hold twice (with desk admin for more than 20 minutes before getting disconnected) trying to get his knee appointment. The "leave a message call back procedure" is not a certainty. My husband had a concern after his final shoulder surgery. If you get through to any direct numbers, same deal... leave message. There is no patient number for people who have had a recent surgery. They are relegated to the same insane call and hold policy. On that note, I must say that the desk admin at Urbana was ultra accommodating for my father who is 85 with signs of dementia. The receptionist, helped me get him checked in even though he was late (having gotten lost) and didn't have all of his necessary information. Luckily I had photos of his documents in my phone. She was so patient and helpful. (5 stars to the staff at the Urbana office) 3 stars overall because of the very unreliable phone service and wait time. I have to share the horrible customer service I received with the front office. I have to wait 2 months to see the doctor just to be turned away because I didn't have my drivers license. I had a photo of my passport but she wouldn't accept that. She rescheduled me for the next month. I call a couple days ahead to verify my appointment and they tell me I don't have one. I was told I could leave without visiting the front desk to pay since nothing could be immediately done to help me. I called to inquire about the charge but was told the bill would remain despite being told otherwise during my visit. I was charged over $130 (over $300 without insurance) for a 5-10 minute conversation. The doctor was knowledgeable and nice but this experience is not one I would like to repeat. I wish I read all these reviews before seeing Dr. Mark Chilton. He is by far the worse doctor I every seeing. My first visit was like 10 min, my second visit was barely 2 min. I still have back pain but Dr. Chilton dismissed me without any explanation or alternative to my pain. To him, it's a number and money and he already collect what he need. He doesn't want to take time to find out the real issue. Dr. Chilton has no conscious and is a disgrace to this honorable practice. What a shame, a doctor should be human, compassion and caring to his patient not just seeing then as $.
