STLSDP, is a foster-based program, endowed with compassionate volunteers, who provide medical, physical and emotional care before their rescues are placed into their forever homes, It is often the last hope for these older animals. I applaud their diligence in the adoption process as well, as it ensures the most successful placement for every animal.. Adopting several senior dogs through STLSDP has been extremely rewarding. Every dog we have adopted has brought immense joy and love into our family. These older animals desperately need a safe and loving home to finish out their remaining years. Please adopt an older pet and thank you to STLSDP for providing these loving animals with the consistent and compassionate care they so richly deserve.

I reached out via email because I was in a dire situation, having taken in a friend's elderly dog…read morebecause she had been placed in assisted living. Explaining my situation, I made clear that I needed assistance and was asking for any information, if they could take this poor dog, etc. All I received was a very cold response via email - "At this time we have no openings. I'm sorry." I then inquired about other places and said that I was desperate. I got another response asking a couple of questions, and for a picture. I sent them my replies, and then another cold, unfeeling response: There are many cavalier rescues and beagle rescues. It was so unhelpful. I just thought people would try harder to help.

We currently have our third and fourth Dirk's Dogs. Linc and Fitz are Great Pyrenees and were…read moreadopted as a bonded pair. Large dogs are not for everyone, Linc is 125 lbs. and Fitz is 130. But they are sweet and gentle as can be. Good with children and other dogs. If you want more than one dog, I highly encourage you to adopt a bonded pair. It is interesting because they cannot stand to be separated, but I think they bonded more strongly to us as a result. One of the nice things about adopting from Dirk's is the dogs and potential adopters are vetted very well. When we adopted our first, a volunteer was out walking Dakota. He warned me that Dakota might not warm up to me, as he was a bit shy. I sat on the ground and talked to him and within two minutes he was in my lap. The volunteer said it looks like he picked you. When we went to talk to Mr. Tillay he told us Dakota would do better with another dog in the house and that the liked puppies. I went into a run with him and a dozen puppies. Dakota picked our Louie. Where else do the volunteers know the dogs so well? When we adopted Linc & Fitz, Mr. Tillay encouraged us to look at them. We talked with the Volunteer who knew them best. It was love at first sight. Some people find the owner vetting a bit off putting, but I think it is for the best. The organization just wants to be sure the adaptor and pets are a good match. If you decide to go look, take the time to talk with the volunteers about the dogs and their personalities. If you are looking for a Large Breed Dog, I highly encourage you to visit Dirk's.

This post is for Dirks Fund in Pacific Mo, my daughter lost her 14 year old Border collie and was…read moreheartbroken she went to this place to adopt a golden retriever she has a beautiful home with a fenced in back yard, this place turned her down because she didn't have the dogs shot record as those and his food and water bowls were buried with him. This is the third time someone I know was turned down by these people for absolutely no reason she went up and visited this dog and fell in love with him. They want these babies to have a good home but yet when a decent person wants to adopt one they put her and her fiancé through a million hoops then gave the dog to someone else. SHAME ON EVERYONE OF YOU THERE. I will NEVER PROMOTEthis place TO ANYONE EVER AGAIN. They are ridiculous. Also I will tell anyone they will listen exactly what they do, that dog would have had more love than he could stand my daughter and her fiancé are the best fur baby parents there are. So then they adopted him out to someone with another dog ( which is also not allowed) now the poor baby is back at the shelter confused. Oh and the most rude and hateful is this woman named Diane she hangs up on people, she blocks people so they don't know the name of the rude person BUT that's her name she's despicable avoid her and this place.
